Cycle Analyst idea: Motor based temperature prediction

Over in the Stealth Electric Bike Owners thread we got talking about way's of temperature monitoring our motors. My solution was to use some temp monitoring stickers stuck to various locations on the hub. http://endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=23996&start=975#p522382 http://endless-sph...

Re: E-S Stealth Electric Bike Owners

haha I only noticed because I've only had my fighter 2 weeks and have already lost one! I've lost some bolts to, but I think I may have found a solution. I put some padded double sided tape all around the inside edge of the side panels between the bolts. This makes the side panels very secure after...

Re: E-S Stealth Electric Bike Owners

Get use to the comments and questions. Its all part of being a Stealth bike owner 8) Tell me about it. I get comments all the time. People seem to either think its a hard core DH mountain bike or a petrol powered motor bike. When I start telling people about it's capabilities they are usuall...

Re: E-S Stealth Electric Bike Owners

You do realise there's a bolt on those that you tighten and it expands inside the tube ? I do. Even with the bolt fully untightened it was a squeeze. The diameter of each section of the round inserts is about 0.5mm larger than the diameter of the downtube. The problem was also when pushing it...

Re: E-S Stealth Electric Bike Owners

It's too easy. Just get the 72v version of this one, http://www.bmsbattery.com/alloy-shell/27-alloy-shell-600w-lifepo4li-ionlead-acid-battery-ebike-charger.html I use this for my 18S lipo bulk charging. Just adjusted it to 75v. A quick tweak with a Multimeter attached and it's back to 58v duties. I...

Re: E-S Stealth Electric Bike Owners

Which charger do you have exactly? This thread might help as well. Follow the links to find the schematic, and confirm it is for your charger before you try anything. <span>Thread: <a href="http://endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=26859" class="smarterwiki-linkify">http://endless-spher...

Re: E-S Stealth Electric Bike Owners

Thanks FullThrottle and Hyena. Bummer, I had thought voltage selectable power supplies were easier to find/buy than that. Based on this thread I can see it's not too hard for one of these to be modded to do 2 voltages within my range and be switchable between them. I'd be happy to pay someone to do ...

Re: E-S Stealth Electric Bike Owners

Get a bulk charger, I use one of these to charge my 20S pack, you can get a lower wattage one if you want to save a few bucks. <span> <a href="http://www.bmsbattery.com/alloy-shell/163-alloy-shell-1500w-lifepo4li-ionlead-acid-battery-ev-charger.html " class="smarterwiki-linkify">http://www.bmsbatte...

Re: E-S Stealth Electric Bike Owners

This is the closest I can find to what I would need. http://www.hyperion-world.com/products/product/HP-EOS0720iSDUO3 And I can see there are a few here on ES who use it but, it would still require splitting the packs into 12s then 6s for charging. Hyena, what do you do? I'm aware of the need to take...

Re: E-S Stealth Electric Bike Owners

So I was going to buy a second charger from John so I can charge at work without having to cart my charger every day...BUT. Since I'm planning on going down the LiPo path anyway, I figured I should just get a charger that can handle the LiPo and the current 58.4V LiFePo4 pack as well. I realise it's...

Re: E-S Stealth Electric Bike Owners

I think it's t3sla's picture, mine is somewhere down on this page Great ride BTW! I ended up using 17Ah, going from 4.15V per cell to 3.68V - not bad for a 70km trip! The motor got very warm by the end, wish I had these stickers on Fri temp.jpg Yeah, there the one's I've got on. Hyena tested it, an...

Re: E-S Stealth Electric Bike Owners

Took my Fighter for a ride to Homebush Olyimpic park (where the Sydney 2000 Olympics were held) and took some video. This was on my old Oregon Scientific extreme sports cam, so quality ain't that good, especially sound. I mounted the camera to the cross bar on the front forks just above the wheel. I...

Re: E-S Stealth Electric Bike Owners

You can't select the C rating that specifically - 15C is the lowest you can get, then its 20, 25, 30 etc. The lower the C rate the more voltage sag you'll see, which limits your top speed a touch. There's actually not THAT much difference in the physical size of the packs and I was suprised to find ...

Re: E-S Stealth Electric Bike Owners

Another way to gain space is by using lower discharge rate lipo that is more volumetriclly energy dense then some of the higher discharge lipo. Compare 15C to 30C cells and the higher rate ones are bigger and/heavier in many cases. Also, you can measure the exact volume you have, then calculate the...

Re: E-S Stealth Electric Bike Owners

Also posted over in Hyena's build thread, but thought this might be a more sensible place. like Voicecoils did a while back? Actually I think that was Full Throttle, and it was in a Bomber, but the same pricipal still applies. What do others think? Could I fit 1.5kwh in the Fighter using this method...

Re: Hyena's e-bike builds (now with HD video)

Nope, what I said previously is the max. That's a shame. I would really love to cram the capacity/range of the Bomber into mine as well. Not discounting your efforts, but what about if I used the 4S1P 8000mah packs instead? This would make an awesome 20s4p pack. :) Or...and this is where I would ne...

Re: Hyena's e-bike builds (now with HD video)

Awesome stuff on fitting the LiPo in Hyena. After seeing and thinking further about what you've done, I'm trying to think about way's I could fit the most LiPo in myself, but finding it hard to visualise. Maybe I need to make some dummy packs out of cardboard or something so I can try a few combo's....

Big shout out to Voicecoils & Gloworm Cycles for performing some fantastic warranty work on my Fighter. My stator was replaced and now my top speed seems to have increased a little to ~57kmh. :) This is on some semi knobblies so should be even faster with Crazy bobs. A fighter, which I'm in the process of quite heavily modifying. Re: Luke's commuter bicycle. What Non-hub is all about.

Nice write up on Luke's bike here.

So does that mean you got the official slips for a run Luke? Or are they just guessing the acceleration here?

Cheers,

Re: E-S Stealth Electric Bike Owners

Quick question.
What are others experience of how much battery AH capacity can vary on the Fighter and Bomber?

Should I be seeing relatively consistent AH usage when the battery is fully drained? Is a difference of 6AH normal?

Cheers
