Re: Lebowski's motor controller IC, schematic & setup, new v2.A1

The voltage feedback signals do not need to correspond with the driver signals, they are only used at startup to see if the motor is running or there is a short somewhere in the power stage. You can make these signals digital, but remember that they have to be at 2.5V for motor standing still / no s...

Re: Lebowski's motor controller IC, schematic & setup, new v2.A1

I tried some more with Emrax and i am convinced that motor should be run at 12Khz or even 15Khz PWM. There is much less noise there. However 15Khz was somewhat more jumpy or so it seemed. Option n didnt change a lot. Higher PWM made it better. With 75a field weakening i arrived to 5500rpm! Bear in ...

Re: Lebowski's motor controller IC, schematic & setup, new v2.A1

in other newes i managed to run 500V Emrax motor to 4200 rpm on the bench. It was terribly noisy but sensorless commutation was flawless. I even heared when it entered weakening. It is 20pole motor so brain can be picky with backemf. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dRgfqRJDuTw A Regarding this 'noi...

Re: Lebowski's motor controller IC, schematic & setup, new v2.A1

Thanks for that, wow  is your gen1 Leaf motor really on 5.5mOhms ? or is that a tuning change by Arlo? My gen 2 Leaf motor measures 22.5mOhms and 175uH which gives a 7.8ms L/R time constant. I don't see any inverters on your gate drive lines, how do you manage to drive the "active low" optoi...

Re: Lebowski's motor controller IC, schematic & setup, new v2.A1

maybe the motor windings are somehow shorted to the case ? That it stays in drive_0 (with the voltage feedback) means the motor windings are not 'floating' but connected to gnd somehow (that or a FET is on). Another thing, when you did the throttle calibration for throttle close, did you give it a l...

Re: Lebowski's motor controller IC, schematic & setup, new v2.A1

Hall sensor spacing looks perfect (codes 1 to 6 have near perfect 60 degree spacing, when you go 5 to 1 to 3 to 2 to 6 to 4 to 5 etc), i would not change them. Strange is that code 1 and 6 are not in use, this may explain your strange behavior of point 1. Did you turn them off ? Just turn those back...

Re: 21kw+ QS273 won't outrun a 250cc?

Yeah, not going mid-drive. One of the main reasons for going electric is simplicity. I don't want to have to worry about chains or belts, etc. Simple is only simple until you spin an axle by stuffing kNm through a couple cm^2 worth of axle cross-section. I never understood why hubmotors are not bui...

Re: Lebowski's motor controller IC, schematic & setup, new v2.A1

If so that begs a question for Lebowski, can the brain chip commutate the motor in sensorless mode without phase voltage feedback? I have included a phase feedback network as per the original design with resistance values adjusted for my Volt inverter project, can I get away without it? Yep it runs...

Re: List of small hatchback cars

Ordered the Citroen C3 I was talking about, this is what it looks like (for people not familiar with Citroen) No radio, but will install a 7" tablet and a bluetooth speaker. No airco but will go redneck on that when necessary (frozen bottles in a cooler, with forced airflow over it, or build a dual ...

Re: Sensorless at standstill, development updates and status

If I understand correctly (difficult to concentrate properly) this is about a company making their own product open source and selling more in the process. Not about someone having IP but no company. If I make my IP public I'm not going to sell more as there is nothing to sell except the IP.

Re: Sensorless at standstill, development updates and status

My code is all written in assembly :D , I use lots of macros which are faster to execute than call / return combos. Those take around 10 cycles, while most floating point functions are also roughly 10 cycles (meaning that its better to waste 10 memory locations here and there, instead of doubling th...

Been using home brew FP in my controller IC (and also this one) for some time now...

I use two words, one is between -32767 and -16384, and 16384 and 32767, the other words is the exponent. 1.0 for instance is 16384 2^-14

Re: List of small hatchback cars

I've crossed mountains with my 8 hp scooter, going up 15% inclines in second gear going really slow. This gives a sense of accomplishment you'll never have on a 'proper' motorcycle. Granted, with 68 hp you'll be in front of the traffic jam, but the next engine up is a 82 hp which is not much faster....

Re: Sensorless at standstill, development updates and status

I don't think it would impact other engineers having jobs, Ti and many others offer sensorless software based off rotor saliency and induction, they just aren't on the public sections of their websites and are only offered to larger companies under NDA. It's unlikely many are writing their own impl...

Re: List of small hatchback cars

I'm about to order the most basic Citroen C3. Extremely comfy car also when you're 1m92 tall. Very economical but only 68 hp from a three cilinder non turbo 1.2L . 0 to 60mph take 16.4 seconds. Has the only option I really care for, cruise control (who cares about hp when you're doing 60mph on cruis...

Re: Sensorless at standstill, development updates and status

Well, I am considering writing down how the 'standard' Lebowski controller works, but not releasing the code. All I think about when I hear open source is lots of companies getting rich of my work without any kickback to me (even though I spent a few 100k$ worth of time and thousands of my own money...

Re: SPM VS IPM Motor - And Field weaken, is it worth it

I've experienced hundreds of controller faults from various types of field weakening controllers while deep into field weakening and never had that damage anything. This seems odd because the BEMF if you spun the motor up with a drill to that same RPM you faulted at would be above Vdsmax for the mo...

With transition between saliency and bemf running. The transition is around 6 k-erpm, drill can now reach top speed (44k-erpm), limited by battery voltage:
