All-Axle Grin Hub motor meets Haibike FS RS 27.5

Hi all, It has been a long time since I posted here. But I have something new planned. First some background. After a couple of years of experimenting with different kinds of DIY ebikes, I decided to buy a Haibike. But this is only the beginning! Read more below the picture... https://photos.smugmug...

Experience after 350km

Hi all, Here is a summary of my experience during the first 350km. Riding I have done 9 daily commutes (30km/day) and the occasional mountain (twice). My way to work is between 13.5 and 15km, depending on the route. Over the 9 commutes, I found myself in "Turbo" 90% of the time, averaging 30kmh (inc...

Licence obtained

So, here we are. Licenced and whatever! My father-in-law and me put the bike in the car, and this morning we drove to the Motorfahrzeugkontrolle (competent authorities). A nice man reviewed again the documentation and found them in order. Then he asked us to wait until the agreed time for the actual...

Re: Midmotor & hubmotor combo

Tomorrow is the official evaluation. With some luck, I get the approval and the number plate right away! We'll see. In the meantime, I added some carbon mud guards front and rear. Really love these ! http://www.rockguardz.com/media/catalog/product/cache/1/image/9df78eab33525d08d6e5fb8d27136e95/s/c/s...

Re: Midmotor & hubmotor combo

Whatever I am posting is going to be either law abiding or hypothetical, including anything on dual motor setup. And the wait is not that difficult, as I'm currently on a holiday in Italy, without my bike. When I get back, off road is a possibility within the law, but won't provide good numbers on r...

Re: Midmotor & hubmotor combo

Status update. Meeting with competent authorities only on the 20th of October. Until then I'm not allowed to use the bike on the public road. So, no further updates until after I get my licence.

Re: Midmotor & hubmotor combo

Picked up my Haibike this morning in Germany. It is gorgeous. I will try to post some pictures as soon as possible. Unfortunately, in order to drive it in Switzerland, competent authorities need to specifically approve it, as proven by a yellow number plate. The approval will hopefully be given base...

Midmotor & hubmotor combo

Hi all, I have been lurking for a couple of years after some exciting experiences with a 8kW CroMotor on a Fully as well as a 250W power Bofeilli midmotor hardtail . I'm just not happy with the Bofeilli's low power with 36V bottle pack, nor with the extremely heavy CroMotor + accompanying 20S lipo p...

Re: What reliable, low-power motor for 3rd world touring?

Hmm, nice challenge! If it is really for assist, I would recommend something like a 8t or 10t geared mac, and try to pair it with a sensor less controller. For low speed application, that should work. Furthermore, a 6 FET controller is small enough so that you could carry two or three, so that this ...

Re: Girls on electric bikes

Hi all, My wife rides her e-bike almost every day, with our without trailer. It is a 25kmh 250W geared thing in the rear wheel, that allows her to navigate hills up to 10% including pedalling. But she loves it, and I do the maintenance. But reasonable member will understand that you guys forget this...

Re: Nokian or Schwalbe studded tire?

That price is much better than what I paid for my Schwalbes (80 Euro a piece). So you should probably go for the Nokians. Note that I am very very happy with my expensive Schwalbes (going into my 3 winter now), but I never tried the Nokians, so I cannot compare.

Re: Who else is in the 5,000 miles or more in a year club?

My commute is 15km one way. That makes a total of 30km each day. With 200 working days a year, that is 6000km a year. So that would be around 3800 miles a year. I have been doing this for the last 3 years with my Cromotor, with various battery packs ranging from 30S to 14S. I take my bike every day,...

Re: Street LEGAL Custom Bomber build! :-)

Hi there,

I think your bike looks awesome, and it is very impressive you got it registered as well!

Could you give a summary of what details the German Health Authorities required in order for the bike to be registered?

Many thanks!

Liebe Grüsse,

Re: Cycle Analyst V3 preview and first beta release

Hi all, I need some support. Due to various reasons, only today I tried connecting the Thun to my CAv3. The Thun has been been in place as BB for a couple of weeks now, and the wires were hanging out through a 10mm hole in the BB frame. Unfortunately, I forgot about it, did some off-road, and the ni...

Re: How heavy is too heavy?

Hmm. If you would remove the Cromo's disc protrusion, and drill and tap new bolt holes into the side cover, you have gained quite some precious milimeters. However, you are then stuck with a very limited space between motor and disc, probably just not enough for a mechanical caliper. Taking a 210mm ...
