Re: 4500+ Miles US Ebike Tour - August 2014

More videos and my bike is back together! Put about 10-12 hours painting and swapping out the frame. Can't wait to see a pic of the new frame and lightened bike. Surely there are other improvements you are making based on what you learned on the Big Ride? We want the dish man, the scoopus maximus!

Re: My Prius EV! Well sort of...

Anyone know if there is a hack to make 34 mph cutoff just a bit higher in a gen2? Sorry if its off thread... Local speed limit is 60kph in town, a few mph more. I guess I could use slightly larger wheels and take the speed inaccuracy... Hi Samd (and to answer edcastrovalley from question above); Wh...

Re: My Prius EV! Well sort of...

Ed - thanks for your comments. Wanted to ask you a little bit more about the item you installed on your 2007 Prius: it appears to me, what you installed does the same thing as the "EV" button on my 2011 Prius, right? I can go up to 2 miles at less than 30 mph using the "EV" button on the console of ...

Troy - your comments about the meanwells are solid gold. Looks to me like the meanwells simply did their job and didn't care one bit about the water, vibration or any of the abuse they saw on the road! So if you had it to do over again, you would do these? http://www.powergatellc.com/mean-well-hlg-6...

Re: 4500+ Miles US Ebike Tour - August 2014

Troy - thought I'd ask, since no one has yet:

You have the two meanwells mounted on your bike, plus you carried the air-breathing charger. Do you consider the meanwells one of your successes of the ride? What about the air breather?

Here's the kit I plan to install in my 2011 Prius 2 Gen3: http://www.pluginsupply.com/ They have a DIY option where you can start low and add packs over time as budget permits. If you already have some cells you want to use, you can buy their parts and integrate your own cells and BMS. But they've g...

Re: 4500+ Miles US Ebike Tour - August 2014

I hope, someday, to ride an ebike in your direction and shake your hand. Then sit down and have some actual as-God-intended Buffalo Wings with something from Southern Tier, Troegs or Ommegang. From where I'm sitting, that's 660 miles and 14,000 feet of cumulative climbing. Makes me wonder if...

Re: 4500+ Miles US Ebike Tour - August 2014

Troy - the impact you've made is immense - right now things may be quiet, but it will become more visible over time, showing that ebikes are a legitimate and meaningful mode of transportation. This is big, man, big. Bigger than Laguna Seca, as-big or bigger than Pike's Peak. May your Guinness World ...

icerider! I hope we hear more about your solar trike! I've been following your thread and appreciate the method you have used to evaluate the panel and discuss it's performance! More data is most welcome!

Re: Long Distance Ebike Design

I agree with Justins comments on KISS the chargers and cords situation. I'm still using 300w chargers, and on a tour I drag two of them out and plug them in. Each one charges a portion of my 25-35 ah pack. It does become tiresome if you keep having to bring it all out over and over. At least a 25' ...

Troy - Do you have a 3-speed switch, and have you been able to use it on the journey to have finer control over how you use the pack energy? Please, I hope when you get home and have time to recover, you will do podcasts and talk about your energy usage on the trip! Thanks and Godspeed dude, James

Re: Factory pre made Li ion Battery discharge "CLIFF".

Still running the original 1000W motor I bought in Feb. 2011. Got over 14K miles on it now. Changed to a 72V controller within a month of getting it and ran on 18S for a year. Been running on 24s since June of 2012 and still going strong. Well HEY, that's GREAT! I'm going from 18S to 24S soon... So...

Wanted to check in with you and see if your Yescomusa stuff is still rolling solid. I'm wondering if it's a good option for a future ebike build?

Great work! I love seeing a road bike converted, I've long thought that's the way to go for good efficiency.
Do you believe the Bafang mid-drive motors will be durable and last for the long haul?
How do you like the Continental tires on the red Cannondale?

Hi was wondering for those of you guys using the standard li ion battery pack e.g. the bottle and rack ones in aluminium, at what voltage per cell do you consider the "CLIFF". We all know the bms lvc is too low and you have cause a lot of harm if you even manage to reach the lvc I have a 10s 36v bo...

The pace is killing me. I made another 170 or so today. Wayyy too hot with a ridiculous hot headwind. I broke down a bit today, couldn't handle it. I've got another 10 days or so and the thought of doing this for another 10 days is a little daunting. I have to take it a day at a time because I'm go...

Re: 4500+ Miles US Ebike Tour - August 2014

I have mentioned it before, but I think Denver will probably be my turning around point. I'm at close to 2000 miles now, so it won't be hard to get up to 4500 on the way back. It's a hard decision to make, but it's going to be nearly impossible to make it back in time if I don't I should change the...
