Re: 10S custom skate ESC: testers wanted!

That is some damn sweet work Vedder! What a pity you are so far away. Would love to do some testing/development with you. Thanks! Where do you live? You are welcome to visit me for a weekend or so to do some testing, I have two guest rooms :-) On the motor Kv discussion. I got this NTM 5060 380Kv t...

Re: 10S custom skate ESC: testers wanted!

This weekend I made a lot of progress. Here is a picture of one new PCBs, which I just assembled: http://home.vedder.se/public/bldc45/IMG_3254_small.JPG I also implemented the new hardware version in the software including soft overtemperature protection. When the temperature is above a certain thre...

Re: 10S custom skate ESC: testers wanted!

An outdoor test with video logging. I didn't get the audio recording right, but hopefully I will have another chance this weekend to try it. nGb-zt2Jp9k Description from youtube: This is an outdoor test with the video overlay logging I implemented using my open source ESC. On this ride I was holding...

Re: 10S custom skate ESC: testers wanted!

I got some PCBs yesterday. I will try to assemble and test one this weekend. http://home.vedder.se/public/bldc45/20141016_210742_small.jpg http://home.vedder.se/public/bldc45/20141016_210711_small.jpg They will hopefully look something like this: http://home.vedder.se/public/bldc45/BLDC_4_f_3d_small...

Re: 10S custom skate ESC: testers wanted!

Thanks for the good feedback :-) This alone is an amazing subject..... so many options... NEW THREAD WORTHY? I will write a tutorial about that and maybe make a video where I explain how it works. Recently I have made many changes to the GUI and it is probably going to change more. By the way, -vedd...

Re: 10S custom skate ESC: testers wanted!

Ok, so now I have spent all weekend on the video-overlay logging I was talking about: KhORTusnI4k It was a lot of work, but so far it works a lot better than expected. I made the first test on the longboard just now. Here is the video description from youtube: This weekend I have created an applicat...

Re: 10S custom skate ESC: testers wanted!

Ill pitch in a grand. I'll do the same if I can scrape some $$$ together. I agree with Beto. Thanks for the support. I don't want to promise anything or take pre-orders before I have had Austin and Dexter test the hand-soldered prototypes, because I don't want to disappoint anyone in case the ESC d...

Re: 10S custom skate ESC: testers wanted!

Some updates: The 10 PCBs I have ordered from hackvana should have arrived two weeks ago, but there seems to be something wrong with the shipping. I asked them about that a few days ago, and got a reply that they don't know what is wrong, but if they don't figure it out by today they are going to ma...

Re: 10S custom skate ESC: testers wanted!

Hi Austin, I haven't posted in a while because I was mostly busy with internship and now school is back in session. I really like your idea for the ESC. I was looking into something similar a while ago and it still remains of interest for me. I read that your design generates 95% of torque at start...

Re: 10S custom skate ESC: testers wanted!

Regarding KV, I explained it a bit here: http://vedder.se/2014/10/chosing-the-right-bldc-motor-and-battery-setup-for-an-electric-skateboard/ Don't be fooled by lower KV values. If you have a 14-pole motor with a given size, the low kv version is not likely to run cooler at all. If you rewind a motor...

Re: 10S custom skate ESC: testers wanted!

@Jan Christian Sounds like a good idea, I will give it a try some time. However, so far, heating has not really been an issue. With the dual-motor longboard, I could go up even the longest and steepest hills with two ESCs in a closed box, without air circulation, without problems. With the single-mo...

@Svenska I'm looking into making some of your ESC's. I'm part of the local hackerspace and we got pick and place available for the assembly and people with all the knowledge needed to get em up and running as well as maybe improving. I wanted to make them before this thread came up. Are you going to...

Re: 10S custom skate ESC: testers wanted!

For the new esc - How is the start up on grass? Is it able to start up in grass with those 83mm wheels or would it not work? Can it start up going up a hill without a kick start or running start? It does not start on grass with the single motor and 83mm wheels with 1:2 gearing. Even if I kick-start...

Re: 10S custom skate ESC: testers wanted!

I just put together some of my experiences regarding motor KV/battery voltage/efficiency/gear ratio in a post here: http://vedder.se/2014/10/chosing-the-right-bldc-motor-and-battery-setup-for-an-electric-skateboard/ I will probably update it several time in the coming days to make it more clear, but...

Re: 10S custom skate ESC: testers wanted!

Since there are so many questions about the speed/efficiency/voltage/current relation, I will write a detailed post about that on my homepage today. I'm not an expert on the mechanical part, e.g. the acheivable reduction ratio and highest speed using pulleys, but I will assume that any ratio is poss...

Re: 10S custom skate ESC: testers wanted!

I was reading vedder specs again, so 10s and 50A continuous means 2100W continuous - is that the basis for the specs ? (1300W on 6s) Yes, something like that. That is for the current version of the PCB I have though without heatsinks. We might add heatsinks and/or a fan to the final version to run ...

Re: 10S custom skate ESC: testers wanted!

It would be really awesome if a bit more acceleration and braking programming freedom is possible Braking is completely different in my firmware than most chinese ESCs. Since there is current feedback, the amount of torque can be precisely controlled with several thousand steps. Also, the PWM techn...

Re: 10S custom skate ESC: testers wanted!

I think 10s is plenty for eboards, but on your blog you stated 60v. Are you planning on a few different versions? The PCBs I have now work for 12s, so that will probably be the rating (I didn't write the title :-) ). One option would be to use 40V FETs, which are available in the same package, to g...

Re: 10S custom skate ESC: testers wanted!

There is almost no startup routine, the controller just goes to closed loop operation in one or two commutations. I can also stand still ang give full throttle - which results in me falling off the board :-) I have implemented current control, duty-cycle control and speed control, everything working...

Here is a summary of what I have done so far: This is a post where I published the design the f...

My open sensorless BLDC motor controller

I have been working on a BLDC motor controller for some of my projects recently. All of the hardware and software is open source and maintained on github.
