Re: 10S custom skate ESC: testers wanted!

Hi guys, trying to get the BLDC tool running on a linux (ubuntu 14.04 LTS) thumbdrive, following the instructions on vedder.se, but it's not going as planned..., see below. Am I missing some qt5 install? I googled a bit on installing qt5, but I have no idea what I'm doing really. Any help? Ran the ...

Re: VESC 12s errors - ideas?

It looks like you should use more heat to make the solder bond to the cables better, but otherwise it looks fine and I don't think that is the problem. For the abs over current, you can increase the abs max current limit to 140A. Regarding the other current limit, 80A is too much for a 149kv SK3 mot...

Re: 10S custom skate ESC: testers wanted!

I did manage to get rid of much of the hardware problem with a patch: http://home.vedder.se/public/pictures/VESC_Shunts/mod_fix_1.jpg http://home.vedder.se/public/pictures/VESC_Shunts/mod_fix_2.jpg I would like to reproduce this, because I already have 10 VESCs waiting to be patched. Can you please...

Re: VESC 12s errors - ideas?

Did you run detection under the sensorless tab to set the motor parameters? This is a very important step. Go down to motor configuration in my tutorial and follow the steps: http://vedder.se/2015/01/vesc-open-source-esc/ If you don't have the motor configured properly you will get several errors an...

Re: 10S custom skate ESC: testers wanted!

Bad news about 12s and 200+kv motors. It worked fine for me on my first test run but today I took a distance run and it works fine until the cells hit about 3.8v, then it cuts off with the drv8302 error. I would assume this is the electrical rpm that vedder talked about. Running 6s I notice that in...

Re: 10S custom skate ESC: testers wanted!

What is the advantage of 3 smaller caps vs one larger cap? Total capacity is less as onloop noted, is that a concern? I believe This is done purely as a method to make the vesc more compact.. the 2200uf cap was ridiculous. With the three caps grouped together it shortens the total length required t...

Re: 10S custom skate ESC: testers wanted!

I have implemented soft battery cutoff and pushed the latest BLDC Tool and firmware to github. It works by setting two voltage levels: one where the battery current is starting to get limited and one where it is completely off. Between these voltages, the allowed battery current will be proportional...

Re: 10S custom skate ESC: testers wanted!

Hi guys, got the diff in my Kyosho fixed and did another test-run (one 7S pack), same gearing as before: 84 km/h no-load @ 3.7 V/Cell (but actual RPM limited to 79 km/h, due to max RPM rating of motor). I increased the Current limits from 80 A to 90 A, which resulted in an average peak Current of a...

Re: 10S custom skate ESC: testers wanted!

Hey everyone. Still waiting for my VESC, but because I build on the battery box I' think about a powerswitch. I wanted to do something like that: http://static.rcgroups.net/forums/attachments/2/1/8/3/1/a2278808-118-anti-spark-schem.gif Then I have read a bit about anti-spark circuits and found that...

VESC - Custom Applications

I wrote a short tutorial a few days ago about how to write and run custom applications for the VESC: http://vedder.se/2015/08/vesc-writing-custom-applications/ As you can see, it does not take many lines to do something useful. Would anyone like to give this a try? If there is anything you have ques...

Re: Any tips for VESC with standard RC transmitter / PPM ?

It is really nice to see that a community is starting to form around the VESC with people helping out. Thanks for making a video :-) Some comments about the video: * It is very important that you run detection for the sensorless settings for new motors. If you don't, the motor will run inefficiently...

Hi Vedder, I love the controller design and hardware and would like to try it out. Is there already a repo with hardware/PCB and BOM, or do you/Jacob plan on selling assembled parts soon? Thanks :-) I will upload the design to github when I have tested it and I think Jacob will make sure that contr...

Silviasol and James, it is nice that you are helping out and you have good tips. I missed this post, but I replied to two of Erwins mails about this. Silviasol, the extra capacitors you soldered are what I meant. Putting the electrolytic capacitor closer if possible can also help. I just published t...

Re: 10S custom skate ESC: testers wanted!

One of the reasons I mentioned the soft (E)RPM limits is that I thought it could be beneficial to slightly limit ERPM for the guys running the 270kv motors on 12S, assuming it was indeed the high ERPM killing the DRVs, as was speculated earlier. I'm thinking of setting my soft ERPM limits to start ...

Re: 10S custom skate ESC: testers wanted!

Playing around with the VESC settings a bit, trying to understand what is what. Got rid of the little stutter, that was noticeable when crawling up the little slope in the test video I posted earlier, by increasing start-up boost from .01 to .03. Also changed the timing advance to map from 0-12 deg...

Re: 10S custom skate ESC: testers wanted!

After killing 5 DRV8302s and a MOSFET, I got lizards motor running well. To get the current measurement right I had to increase the highest switching frequency a bit and adjust the current sample timing. To make the components survive, I had to add a PEG225MG3680QE1 capacitor close to the FETs and s...

Re: Using a mosfet as a switch?

I have actually ordered 10 PCBs for doing just that, using the same MOSFET as the VESCs use. Two in parallell, so is should handle 100A continuously and 300A peak or more. I made this switch with two BTS555 mosfets, yesterday. Seems to work. I encourage you to review the discussion in the thread I ...

200kv on 12s should work fine.

I will make a check in the next firmware that shuts down and gives a fault code when the KV * voltage * poles number is too high.

Re: Opensource Remote / BMS / BEC

Yes that sounds realy good! My next step is also a Charger. The main problem are the 50V - there are a lot easy to use charger ICs up to 30V systems (i have a sample here because i use atm a 6s system, the PCB is in order) The current way what I am thinking about is a LTC4020 / LTC4000 or LTC3796. ...
