Re: How to turn a high voltage DC-DC converter ON/OFF
Dunno. whattabout "tapping" the equivalent of 12-13.7 volts out of a through bms utility where consumption is lower than a couple of amps? build the utility into the bms with a 12v out put. activate it either switched or CAN. would take up less space than a small buck anything requiring bi...

fat bike frame & fork
This is a 19" steel cruiser fat bike frame. Purchased from ebay over the winter to build up, but have decided to abort. Frame shipped with some "light" damage to the rear drop outs and hanger - they're out by about 2-4mm. Didnt worry too much about it because the bike was scheduled fo...

BTW, OT for this thread, but since it does have something to do with the advertising/vendor/etc issue; I've debated posting it as a separate topic, and will split it off if y'all think that would be better: I think that no moderator should be allowed to be a vendor and vice-versa. If they are selli...

Any of the founding fathers of this thread have a splined freehub broached freewheel laying around in their tool boxes before I start hand filing one?

As an experiment, I laced up a second wheelset for my fatbike. I used a set of fat hubs, laced to a set of 29er rims - Halo Vapour. vapour.jpg Running a 29X2.3 tire, the diameter is only 3/8" shorter than its 26X 4.0 fat wheel/tire combo. had it in my head I was going to use this second wheelse...

....... but it's also the absolute disgust i've developed for the effect of salt on the bike..... corrosion. never. sleeps. The bane of east coast two wheeling commuters in ice melt (salt), rust belt wintry months. Every night when I get home the bike gets rinsed off. Immediately. Only real solution.

Re: Fat Bikes intended use?
its 11 degrees here and about 3 inches fell on the streets a few days ago. I had to be at the shop by 9 am, and every road in bound to Pittsburgh was literally bumper to bumper for miles. cars in the ditches, sliding, crashes, untreated road ways. I bought my fat bike specifically for these types of...

Lenk42602 did u reuse the spindle from the bottom Bracket with your new origin 8 one? hey dan, I purchased a sealed cartridge unit, so no slop to worry about. Anyone know of a larger chain ring for this thing? dan, that crankset has a pinned chain ring on it. they are not designed to be replaced, rather thrown out when worn sufficiently. Any square taper crank should do you just fine. Chain line will need to be considered though. Another thing - did I mi...

I am a trail steward for one of the many county parks maintained by a multi use( but primarily mountain biking) IMBA certified organization. It also happens to be Dirt Rag's back yard. There was a time when mountain bikers were perceived as outlaws, crashing through the woods, destroying the land, e...

Keeping trails mai...
