Re: Easiest, most reliable bolt on mid drive kit?
It must be the mount that is twisting or your motor sliding backwards under load.
Or maybe the clamp on the frame is slipping.
Try some silicon under the clamp to secure it if it is slipping.
If it is twisting add another brace

Re: Easiest, most reliable bolt on mid drive kit?
Is it ever possible to get things dialed in so airing the bike out won't derail the drive chain (chain tensioner installed) How many speed is your rear cassette? If it is more than 8 your chain will stretch quicker Is it your primary motor chain that comes off? Bmx half link chain will fit and be ti...

[quote="LightningRods"]Or you might not even need another idler. Just another cable to apply additional pressure to the existing derailleur arm. Check out the derailleur on one of your bikes. If you pull the cage plate up as shown by the red arrow in the picture below you can feel how much...

I noticed you ran the secondary chain on both sides of the tensioner on a couple of your pics.

Nice bike mate,
You could switch the chain between output cog and cranks to bmx half link as it fits the sprocket and would do away with the tensioner as you can remove 1 link at a time

Re: LightningRods mid drive kit
Working before - there was no before - this is first fit. Cranks spin freely. However, the large drive belt pulley had unscrewed itself down its freewheel and catching - thanks for idea Darren. I assume that this freewheel is loaded in the tightening direction under load? Mine did the same on my AF...

Re: Lightning or AFT motor
Hi Kneepel I have had my AFT kit for about 2 years now and have put 5000 miles on it with very little issues. Had to replace chain and sprockets etc a few times. Managed to snap my rear mech hanger when my gears were out of sync.(my fault) Also jim at AFT is very good with after sales serv I have or...

The only thing missing for me is a clock, you should make a plug in version that uses the output for the light.

Re: LightningRods mid drive kit
Holy crap Batman, That looks awesome and bombproof too. Thermal conductive goo is way more conductive than an air space and would help the motor shed heat faster by connecting the coils to the outer case. I will post pics as i do it. Hopefully the custom frame will not twist, it all made from 4mm al...

Re: AFT mid drive giant glory 2013
I have seen this before it happens quite rarely and only when the freewheels are brand new and haven't locked up yet ? for some reason maybe they are not very tight from the factory ? So if they tighten and don't unscrew the first few rides you probably won't have a problem ever, but if they are sl...

Re: AFT mid drive giant glory 2013
Never had a problem but you have put a lot more miles than me. I'm assuming first one lasted longtime and these others not lasting long? If so, something is not right like the screw holding it in is messed up. Yes the first one lasted 4000 miles ish and the second had no threadlock on it and unscre...

Re: My Big Fat Giant
Darren thanks for the info. Wow! That's an extensive frame mod. Would love to see some pictures. Do you have a build thread? Are both the down tube and top tube being removed? Are they welding in a box frame for the batt compartment? How about the dropout, are they going to widen that too. I recomm...

Cant wait to see this one finished mate, been keeping a close eye on this and your other dh comp build. I have a dh comp at the welders for a full on frame chop .As i have an 18" it is just not long enough, does not want to go round a corner on flat ground etc. So it has had 75mm added to the d...

Re: LightningRods mid drive kit
I run 2.5kw peak and my chain lasts about 700 miles . Re: LightningRods mid drive kit
Unfortunately the Bullet Bros chain tensioner is discontinued. You can still get them on closeout. They look like an easy thing to copy. I have not looked at Dave Kaufmanns version yet but a v brake and a spring sounds easy to make and would have adjustable tension if you welded a brake boss to some...

Re: LightningRods mid drive kit
It is not the cassette that is the problem. It is the detailer not having enough spring tension. That causes high power systems to chain skip under high loads. He will need to figure out how to stiften the derailer spring. He will wear out sprockets and chains quickly now with this much power. Matt...
