I have one of these:

Unfortunately my crazy border collie hates it. Cool idea though.

Re: Haibike crazy price

Any biking (mountain, road, street, electric) is a hobby, as much as it sport. And as such, the price doesn't really matter, as long as there is some statement behind the product. You can commute on a Walmart 150$ "bike", and it will take you wherever you need without much fuss. But most of us look...

Re: Haibike crazy price

Quality mountain bikes come at a price. It is not about showing it off or snob appeal. Quality mountain bike forks cost 500 dollars plus. Quality wheelsets cost $500 plus. You can get a decent mountain bike at $2,000 but for much less you start sacrificing. Good luck trying to piece together a full...

Re: Commuter Booster - <1kg Friction Drive

Hi Adrian, Thanks for the update, and thanks for sharing all your work so far with the e-bike community. I guess the silver lining is that you have made the call about not going commercial at this stage rather than after investing too heavily. I feel privileged to be an owner of a Brain Box then, a...

Re: Haibike crazy price

What is the least expensive bike which uses the Bosch OEM system? (I'm interested to know the disparity between the least and most expensive Bosch-based bikes, in order to infer how much of the cost is due to the drive system.) That's a good question. I'm curious about that too. I'm hoping there's ...

Re: Haibike crazy price

Well, I have to admit I'm surprised by how many people on here don't think $5,000 for that bike is outrageous. I get liking expensive bikes with good components, I get having very restrictive laws in your country and that this is a good compromise bike. I just don't see THIS bike being worth that mu...

Re: Haibike crazy price

the bbs02 does in no way come even close to a haibike. i've ridden both and the 100% smooth, natural power multiplying experience of the haibike is just another dimension. is it worth the extra money? not for me, but if i had the money to spare i would go that route. and the question is not: how mu...

Re: Haibike crazy price

That is pretty much the going price. Been into a bike shop lately and looked at the price of non motorized full suspension bikes? Many over $5,000. Of course you could go to Wallmart and pick up a full suspension bike for under $200. If you want a Bosch system on a quality bike you have to pay the ...

Haibike crazy price

I would love to get my hands on a Haibike. I imagine the Bosch drive system is amazing quality but I just ran across this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-2015-Haibike-XDURO-FS-RX-27-5-Full-Suspension-Electric-Mountain-Bike-45cm-/111526910119?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item19f78598a7 $5200?!?! Wow! I love it. Looking great so far. I considered getting a Motoped frame but I'm not sure where I would use it. If I tried to ride that on the street around here the cops would probably pull me over and shoot me. It would be awesome to get one registered and street legal.

Re: lightweight street bike?

Aprilia USA doesn't offer anything that is not a scooter and under 750cc. The issue I am find is the lack of a lightweight street front end. I picked up a front end from a Hyosung 650 and the forks, triple, front wheel tire and axle - total weight is 60lbs. So I'm lugging around an extra 25-30lbs m...

Re: Spinningmagnets' RC Friction-Drive Build-log

Uh oh! I smell another commercial friction drive being thought about! :D I don't know. I've said this for years and taken heat for it here but I think it would be very hard to convince even the general public about friction drive. Even if they're not in the know about ebikes they tend to think it's ...

Re: Spinningmagnets' RC Friction-Drive Build-log

It still leaves me dumbfounded why interest in FD is so low. For anyone looking at a legal 250w electric boost, this just seems the obvious choice. Oh well Friction drive gets a bad rap because there have been some crap commercial products out there over the years. It would be like if Yugo all of t...

Re: Spinningmagnets' RC Friction-Drive Build-log

Yes. I forgot that part. One complaint I've read is the motor protrudes sideways. Why has there been no variation that stacks the motor above the spindle then uses a small belt/pulley to connect them. it seems like a rather simple mod with out adding much resistance and really cleans up the mounted...

Re: Motocross Style Electric Moped Project

I couldn't find pictures of the unmounted Motoped swingarm mounting bracket to confirm, but I'd guess that it has recesses where it bolts to the frame so that the majority of the forces are transferred directly from the bracket to the frame. Your diagram seems to put all the forces on the heads of ...

Re: Motocross Style Electric Moped Project

I think something in between a bicycle and a motorcycle (a moped :D ) would be fun to tool around town on. I personally think moped wheelbases being so short (around 45") makes them look like clown bikes. It would be nice to figure out a way to extend it a few inches. Maybe keeping it a hardtail an...

Re: Spinningmagnets' RC Friction-Drive Build-log

Coming back to this design and found myself asking the same question but did not see any reply. Does the slider style keep contact all the time. From the EVTodd video it shows the spindle turning until wheel is stopped and continuing to spin while coasting at speed. Obvious question is how much dra...

Re: Motocross Style Electric Moped Project

I'm a big fan of factory setups. My inclination would be to find a titled full-cradle frame motorcycle with enough clearance to mount a hubmotor on the front of and above the swingarm, good front suspension, and twin leading-shoe drum brakes. Then I'd remove most of the engine case leaving just the...

Re: Motocross Style Electric Moped Project

No thoughts on this huh? Ok, I guess I'm just going to do an experiment. If it doesn't end up working I'll have a different swing arm mount welded on at some point. My thought here is to bolt on an aluminum mount with bearings pressed into it instead of the cheezy bushings that most mopeds use. I gu...
