Fitting front wheel MAC to fork - a few questions

I just received my MAC motor, and I've assembled the engine bits and have started fitting the wheel to the dropouts. First question I have is: On each side of the axle is a nut, a washer with a bent lug and normal flat washer (as per pic 1). pic1.jpg My first question is: should the flat washer go o...

Re: Hobbyking LiPo's: worst service in the world - Avoid..

This also (probably) explains why my original order just sat there and they didn't do anything: I'd paid for Fedex shipping and they were unable to ship it because its over above the allowable limits. I just checked my new order and it went from "Paid" to "In Print Queue" to "Printed" within about 6...

Re: Hobbyking LiPo's: worst service in the world - Avoid..

I just put 5 x Turnigy 4s 5Ah hardcase in the cart and yep, I get the Fedex option too (as the only option). The moment I change to Turnigy 6s 5Ah which is what i'm after, it disappears and the only option I get is International Registered Airmail. and then only for a maximum of 2 bricks. Tried thr...

Re: Hobbyking LiPo's: worst service in the world - Avoid..

Looks like I ordered on 15/12/2013 and received them on 19/12/2013 in napier :-). Fedex tracking had it on the 16th so Hobby king didn't muck around packing it. I'm really impressed at the shipping time given the time of the year. Their site is still offering me the fedex option. It offers me 'Fede...

Re: Hobbyking LiPo's: worst service in the world - Avoid..

maybe someone has seen a shipment from them recently and can confirm the top load label they are using now. it may be that the new zealand authorities did not go along with that arrangement but i think in this guys case he was just caught in the middle like everybody else. i recommended he try orde...

Re: Best place to buy some LiPo's from?? (Not Hobbyking)

Yeah, interesting to hear dogman say he'd never buy from the china warehouse again. Unfortunately thats what I'm stuck with. If I could order from either the US or AU warehouse I'd give it another shot, but the website forces me to use the international/chinese one. :-(

Re: Installing a BMS for Lipo - How to?

I am a newbie but have been doing a fair bit of reading on this site over the last month. I'm building an ebike now and am looking to go down a similar path (2 x 6S 5000mah lipo packs) to give me 12S - 44.4V nominal, just like the OP. I've bought a balance charger to charge them, but very much like ...

Group LiPO buy?? For New Zealand only..

Having recently had a particularly unsatisfactory experience with HobbyKing, I'm investigating alternatives. I'm not sure how many Kiwis there are on this forum, who use LiPo, but if there's sufficient interest we could do a group buy of a number of 6S 5200mah 25C bricks. I've made some enquiries wi...

Re: Hobbyking LiPo's: worst service in the world - Avoid..

Its obvious that you've got your experience with them and your views. Fair enough. I've got mine: placed my very first order with them and they couldn't manage to even print it out for over 20 days, let alone ship it. I'm happy to post screenshots if people so desire. Can't see much point in continu...

Re: Hobbyking LiPo's: worst service in the world - Avoid..

Probably not a great idea bashing one of the most popular and reliable vendors on here. I've likewise had many good successes from them. Great pricing, fast delivery, friendly service. Of course if someone threatened to not pay you, you would hold off shipping their goods. And Paypal has only ever ...

Re: Hobbyking LiPo's: worst service in the world - Avoid..

Maybe you guys have been luckier than most. After my order was delayed beyond what was reasonable, I did a bit of research on the Internet. (should have done that in the first place). The number of people of that have had bad experiences with them is pretty shocking. I came across a web site called ...

Best place to buy some LiPo's from?? (Not Hobbyking)

I've been trying to buy some LiPo's from HobbyKing (first ever order with them) and my experience with them is that they are absolutely useless! As we say here in New Zealand: "they couldn't organize a piss up in a brewery". Full story is here: http://endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=55...

Hobbyking LiPo's: worst service in the world - Avoid..

I ordered some Lipos from HobbyKing.com on the 28th of November (they were in stock) and my order has been stuck "in Print Queue" ever since then. Made a request to process my order with Hobbyking Customer Service, who promised me that my order would be processed within 24 hours or so (which it didn...

Re: Do you use a fuse or circuit breaker?

To kill a brushless controller if the throttle got stuck you don't need to switch the main power feed at all. All you need is a switch to turn off the controller power, usually that's around 60mA or so, so a tiny, handlebar mounted, switch will do the job just fine. This is the switch I have on my ...

Re: What kit should I get and where should I get it?

I'm going to contact someone this week that can give a better reading on this hill than I can. I'll post it when I find out for sure. If you go to MapMyRide.com you can map the distance of that hill and you can see the elevation. That'll give the grade. (elevation/Distance). 30% seems awfully steep...

Re: NOOB LiPo Shopping list. Did I miss anything critical?

Thanks for that BikeFanatic . I'll add the Turnigy watt meter to the list. The alarm that I listed (http://hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__18588__Hobbyking_2_8S_Cell_Checker_with_Low_Voltage_Alarm.html) according to the description does pretty much what the Cell log8 does: "This unit also features a...

NOOB LiPo Shopping list. Did I miss anything critical?

Am looking to convert my MTB (strictly commuter no offroad) with a MAC kit (yet to purchase) but after a lot of reading have decided that the best battery option (for now) is to go LiPo. Yes, I've read a number of the horror stories (member Floont comes to mind) and my wife is already not that happy...

Battery requirement calc; Is this correct?

I'm looking at buying a standard MAC kit and am looking at battery options. I'd like to get the smallest pack that I can get away with and am looking at some Turnigy 5000mah 4S (14.4V) packs, because they are cheap as chips at the moment. I only want the motor to assist on the up hill bits of my 6km...

Ebay 48V 10AHLi batteries? any good?

Hi I'm new to e-bikes and am researching my options. I came across battery packs from "cammy_cc8" selling 48V 10AH battery packs for $270 including shipping. (shipping is the killer for me, living in New Zealand). Here is the link: http://www.ebay.com/itm/48V-10AH-LiFePo4-Electric-Bicycle-Battery-Pa...

Newbie looking for some practical advice

Hi, I am new to e-bikes, but have done a fair bit of reading over the last week or so on here (including the FAQ) and other places. I first got interested when a local website (live in New Zealand) was offering Magic Pie kits. Since then I have read that their quality is not as good as one would lik...
