Re: Tesla Model 3

Well, earnings are out and Q&A session over - very interesting indeed. Analyst estimates averaged a ~$180 million loss - reality was 320 million profit. ZEV credits comprised only ~50million of that, so would have made a substantial profit regardless. gross margin on model 3 improved beyond expectat...

Even if they reach that 53,000 count, that is still below theiir own (reduced) target of 55,000. https://www.businessinsider.com.au/tesla-model-3-deliveries-meet-guidance-miss-wall-street-expectations-2018...

Re: Neumotor 8057/75 middrive project, belt drive, adding halls, 10kW+

Do you know what caused it to blew or in which situation it gave up? In russia board i read somewhere that the driver boards could overheat and make the FET's switching crazy, which would also expalain why some people blew the controller unexpected during charge.. There are different versions of dr...

Re: Neumotor 8057/75 middrive project, belt drive, adding halls, 10kW+

Shit, did you get any help and support from Adaptto at all or did you just loose all that money? Sorry to hear a company with so much potential driving it all to ground. Mobipus, are they even available any more? Last I heard Mobipus was going all OEM and no more sale to end user. I had my first mi...

Re: Neumotor 8057/75 middrive project, belt drive, adding halls, 10kW+

I gave up on my Adaptto after being a very vocal supporter... too many un-explainable issues similar to your experience. I blew two mini-e, one mid-e and two max-e, now all are broken and I have given up on factory support. I would highly recommend checking out the Mobipus controllers... I've been r...

Re: 18650 Cells and custom packs in New Zealand

I am still building packs and supplying cells, still prefer the Samsung 30Q as a great all rounder. Bare cell price drop to $7NZD! If you would like a pack, send me a PM, prices start from $9/cell spot welded with 100% nickel in a custom CNC machined housing. I can also supply nickel, cell insulator...

Re: Wind and Solar vs Coal, Gasoline, Nuclear

There's a perception that heavy transport will be the last sector to be disrupted by electrification, I think it will happen much sooner than the current thinking. As all of the rational people in this thread have discussed, it's economics that drive adoption and change. The economics for large truc...

With a blown controller here's your opportunity to try out something new! Over the years I've really come to value your advice and experience and have applied a lot of your accumulated lessons to my other rides. If I could give you one thing back in return, it's the huge impact of better controllers...

Re: Wind and Solar vs Coal, Gasoline, Nuclear

It's a bit of stretch to extend the crumbling nature of the US to the rest of the world. The complete failure to adequately maintain or renew key infrastructure is a political issue, not the inevitable end-state of your much trumpeted energy catastrophe. On that note, I was pretty blown away travell...

Re: Supercapacitor Regen Bank ?

Slowing aggressively (on the verge of locking rear tire) from about 50mph I can achieve about 60a back into my pack. This naturally only lasts for a few seconds. Decelerating at 4kw is somewhat similar to accelerating with 6kw, given losses etc. I've been doing this daily on this pack for 2+ years, ...

Re: Tesla style DIY replacement Leaf battery help

Yes my poor leaf's battery pack is degrading rapidly. All the 2nd hand Leaf's in New Zealand are imported from mainly Japan or the UK and are not covered under any form of warranty and Nissan are not providing any support. Replacement batteries are not available nor are any used cells whether Leaf ...

Re: Another EEB build with a few twists.

If it turns out there's more than a few people that want them in the US it probably would be cost effective for me to make up a sheet worth of spacers and send them all to you to distribute. I've machined lots of HDPE for battery enclosures, with low helix 1/4" 2 flute endmill with the right feeds a...

Re: Another EEB build with a few twists.

For anybody that wants to make more of these, I'd suggest purchasing 1/2" HDPE stock and cut the spacer in two layers. Split one layer north to south and the second east to west, rotate one half to nest inside the other. CNC cut, including the mounting holes so they all line up perfectly. This will ...

Re: Tesla style DIY replacement Leaf battery help

Your math is correct, but the leaf doesn't charge above 4.1v for cell longevity reasons, so you'd need to add around another 10% to meet the original spec. Why 18650 replacement? Do you have an end of life gen 1 pack?

Re: PSA, enertion FOCBOX's are only rated for 100 miles before failure

The Samsung 30q cells are *rated* at 15a, however they will do substantially more than this. I have done discharge testing to 30a/cell. They sag a lot, get hot and won't last long if done regularly, but it's completely incorrect to state that your battery will only deliver 60a. If the controllers ar...
