Re: New ebiker in the making....now to make the ebike!

*old man hat* It's more important to build something you're happy with and be proud of. Have a design concept with a budget and work towards your goal. As for buying overseas vs buying locally.... Get whatever is cheaper. Unless someone on the forum wants to pay the difference between buying oversea...

Re: New ebiker in the making....now to make the ebike!

I have that kit you're looking at but run higher power (a bit over 2kw). I got the MAC 10T for hill climbing and acceleration and my speed tops out at a bit over 50km/h (about 30mph) no pedalling on a 29er MTB at 14S lipo (48-58V). To do a 30mile commute one way with zero pedalling you're going to n...

Re: Help - Doner bike for MAC motor conversion

I eventually went with a focus black forest (big deep dropouts). Its aluminum but has been solid with v4 torque arms. The trick with filing the drops is measuring how deep the disc goes down into the caliper. If it doesn't sit all the way ( pad doesn't have 100% contact) then you've got an extra few...

Re: Comments from strangers about your bike

I have a mixed response... Most people are nice on the commute to work, but some lycra dudes just hate you for "cheating". I did go to the local velodrome to test some stuff out and the people training on their race bikes weren't happy I was there and lapping them... It was a public velodrome and I ...

Or use XT90 plugs?

Realistically, you shouldnt be unplugging your batteries much anyway. Just have anderson connectors from your charger to your BMS?

Re: Help on building a first commuter ebike.

The other guys here know more than me, so I would take their advice in front of mine... That said.... I run a MAC10T on a 29er (700c wheel) at 40A all day every day to go to work and trail... I keep the controller in a waterproof saddle bag and ride in the rain without issues. I do park it in the ga...

Re: MAC 10T vs EZee V2

I run a MAC 10T with 40A (12FET controller) on a similar setup (29er - 700c rims with 2"-2.3" wide tires). Most of my hills are under 10% incline which the MAC10T will "easily do" with speed. On that type off incline, it's about throttle control though as the front starts lifting if you punch the th...

I'm 178cm so 5"10ish and around 78kegs - Giant Talon 29er Medium frame and I honestly feel like I'm on a Penny Farthing. The view from up here is amazing, the bike feels that big - the wind resistance is also huge though. I've gone for conti touring plus tyres 700x37 with thorn proof tubes (these w...

Re: is this a good base for an ebike conversion?

It's literally struggle town to get cheap slick/road 27.5" tires if you want to do some commuting. Try find some cheap non knobby 27.5" tires. I went for a 29er so I could use big balloon knobby MTB tires (29er MTB) or swap out for some 700c road tires when I need to. A 29er shares the same rim diam...

Re: Raged Focus Black Forest 29er MAC 10T 40A Build log!

I ended up getting some grin tech v4 torque arms which seem to be doing a good job of locking the motor in place. Thanks anyway mate =) The last thing I'm after is a bluetooth data reader to display all the variables to a phone. I dont have a CA (honestly dont think I need it as I'm happy with the s...

Re: Raged Focus Black Forest 29er MAC 10T 40A Build log!

Some more parts came in!!! Ebay $14.86 delivered cree XML-T6 headlight with 2 18650 batteries (probably fake 1000mAh... but there's 2 of them!) and charger. First off, lets just say it's probably about 800-1000 lumens which is VERY bright but not retina burning 2000 lumens. I purchased this as I was...

Re: E-bike meter for Android/iOS

I've already mounted my smartphone for mapmyride and google maps (Galaxy S5 is waterproof). looks like this will round it out perfectly if it's a CA plug. I think I like the dashboard on the elebike site better though. You dont really have time to look at small numbers when you're riding. If you cou...

Does that connect directly to the CA plug? If it does, I'd rather get that than a CA (dont need programming).

Re: Converting a Jamis Cyclocross bike - Help needed

MAC10T on 48v (14S lipo) will do 30mph on a 700c wheel with ease for commuting. It struggles on 20-30 deg incline if you dont pedal assist. Check the last page of my build thread (in sig) for video and my build steps. I ride a 29er which is a 700c rim (622) with room for fat tires. The motor and con...

Re: Choosing a Conversion Kit

Hey mate, BBS02 750w is a good choice and is what I would have gone for if I was to do it again for more stealth. Make sure you do all the reading on the chainline issues (non centered bottom bracket) and that the widths are correct. Also try to buy from someone who can remove the 50km/h speed limit...

Re: A Big Shout Out for ... electricmotorsport.com

Take into account that production ebikes need to comply with local laws etc. A MAC motor at 48V is pushing 1500-2300 watts (illegal in any state). That said... I have a MAC 10T on 48V... it's a ball! Make sure you upgrade to 12FET controller if you can. The extra amps does help.

Re: multiple lipo charging

You can connect the charge cables to the first and last balance cables to charge ( as long as its not too many amps). As it's ADC (floating DC voltage) with reference to the battery. I used a parallel splitter and yanked out the middle pins for my lipo charger for testing. The easy commuter option i...

Re: The Niggly Little Things :(

You could just use a triangle frame bag which is the easy method. The damage always comes from bumps and anything that is not in the centre triangle or hanging out (front or rear) can act as a lever.... so hit a bump at speed... the heavy stuff not in centre triangle bounces up... and as it bangs ba...
