Re: The Niggly Little Things :(

I'm glad it's not just me then. I'm really only on revision 2. So third time lucky. I'm thinking of building a custom perspex case for my new battery pack. Should I put low density foam around the battery? Will that insulate it too much? In terms of the hard case, I'm thinking of putting a reinforc...

Re: The Niggly Little Things :(

Do it right the first time by over engineering everything? My first ebike has been solid after version 3 of the middle frame battery pack. Nothing heavy is held around where it can hit a bump and provide enough force/leverage to snap something else. And the only place that provides enough mounting p...

Check my Sig for my 29er build. I spent a bit more for a full MAC 10T kit at 14S but it does 50km/h on throttle and I have 9 speed rear and disc brakes.

Re: Advice needed on voltage to run a MAC 6T

I run a MAC 10T which was purchased in April and punish it pretty hard as an all round commuter (havent tried actual bush trails yet). I run the 12 FET 40A controller with lipo and off the charge voltage is about 58V... so I'm pushing about 2300watts to get a top speed of 30mph which I feel is fast ...

Re: Occasional electric options for 700c Hybrid keeping 18 g

Heres a video I took today of my build on the road/park. You simply can't beat the torque wind and versatility of a 29er. 30mph (50km/h) is "fast enough" for a hard tail. If I had full suspension then I might think of going faster, but 30mph is good enough for me.

Re: Raged Focus Black Forest 29er MAC 10T 40A Build log!

Adjusted my Samsung Galaxy phone mount to take video... Bike light is in the way on the left, but lights are important... and I couldn't be assed moving it. You can get a sense of speed and the versatility of a 29er to roll over stuff like an MTB as well as have the wheel diameter to punch speed lik...

Re: Occasional electric options for 700c Hybrid keeping 18 g

I use the gears when in a busy area (a lot of people around and you need low speed control). I throttle up on semi busy long roads/hills. Realistically you can survive on 4 gears at the back (11t high) but there's a rule about how many teeth you need between gears for your derailleur to change prope...

Re: Occasional electric options for 700c Hybrid keeping 18 g

On the BBS02: I've just done some more googling; can't find much about having multiple chain rings on the front (mine currently has 34 and 50)? Only thing I could find was a rather bodged looking example of a triple chain ring in a youtube video I'd already watched before. I wouldn't mind spending ...

Re: Build Help - Commuter (10Mi RT) For Girlfriend.

It means he didn't cheap out and got a BMS to bulk charge. With lipo you have 3 options. 1. High risk but cheap - bulk charge the whole pack and watch it like a hawk 2. Med risk but more a pain in the ass than cheap - use a balance charger and break your lipo packs every time you want to charge 3. S...

Re: Occasional electric options for 700c Hybrid keeping 18 g

Take note that the 9 speed freewheel is on a 29er frame (with 135mm MTB wide dropouts and disc brakes). Your road bike geometry might be too narrow unless you can bend it a bit wider. You're right that the front lifts if I punch the throttle and start peddling, however it's very much controllable in...

Re: Occasional electric options for 700c Hybrid keeping 18 g

If you're carrying that much, then a MAC 10T or 12T would be perfect at 48V (14S lipo). The correlation between speed / wind / amps / voltage. - If you go for a 6T or 8T (faster motor), then you will have less torque (to pull that load around) so it will draw more amps and overheat/destroy the motor...

Re: Surly Disc Trucker, 26" or 700C?

Get a 29er... best of both worlds in my opinion. You can swap the rim/tires to thinner 700c. Additionally, a 29er built for MTB use usually has wider drops for the rear motor clearance.

Re: Noobie planning an Electric bike with >30 mph

In Melbourne we're hit with congestion tax as well (AUD$1300 / year just for a car park in the city)... as well as tolls, and petrol is currently over AUD$1.40/L. ... Thats right.... US$1200 a year just to park in the city (The actual cost of parking is extra). Council has got to make money somehow.

Could it be the suspension fork playing funny buggers at speed? I'll lock it out on the way home tonight to see how much difference it makes (To be honest, I'm sort of getting used to the cushy ride of a bike with suspension... ) Our roads are good, but some council retard decided it would be a good...

Re: looking for an electric bicycle.. what should i get?

If you have a 29er then a MAC10T on 48V Lipo (14S) will do 30mph. Your range depends on how much you want to spend on batteries. 20Ah of batteries will make the distance and a bit to spare if it's hilly. 15Ah is fine if it's all flat terrain. Check my build thread for my commuter (reliable and easy ...
