Re: LightingRod kit standard 09/2014 edition

Are you talking about the chain hitting the pant guard? I wonder if turning that 12t sprocket around will straighten out the chain to prevent that. I was looking at my bike and it seems that there MIGHT be enough clearance to do that as long as you have your chain on the little sprocket before you t...

Re: LightingRod kit standard 09/2014 edition

Just be sure you have the kit set up exactly right before you make any permanent changes to the kit by making a hole. Make sure your gearing combination is the one you want to keep. You only want to do this once. I dont want to hear you complaining that you had to make 15 holes on each side before y...

Re: LightningRods mid drive kit

Hey Mike, I know you are always complaining that you dont have enough work to do so I came up with this plan to give you something to keep you occupied. You keep on saying that it doesnt cost much to throw in an extra design to your metal shop with big orders. Well maybe you could make a design that...

Re: LightningRods mid drive, givitago's build

As to the bending bracket, add spacers on the shaft between where bracket straddles, use nuts since you would need like 50 or so normal spacers. As for the throttle cutting out on the CA, could it be your brakes cutting the power? Unhook the brake line and try it then. Up your watts to 2000 and see ...

Re: LightingRod kit standard 09/2014 edition

Just turn that bolt around and thread it in from the belt side. Should be enough clearance from the belt after that. Worth a shot because it is a free and easy fix if it works.

Re: LightningRods mid drive kit

The upper adjuster does not have to be perfectly level for the kit to work properly. The amount of adjustment that might be needed to tighten the chain side is minimal and will not affect the belt.

With all the upcoming changes to the kit you might want to call it LightningRods Mid Drive V2

Those of you who have the old version of the kit right now will probably be interested in this video. The current version of the kit has been modified and probably will not require this type of modification.

Negative Feedback loop to smooth out twist throttles?

There must be some sort of system out there that will take my throttle output voltage and clean it up and then send it on to my cycle analyst to smooth out my ride. I find my throttle so damned sensitive that if I go over a bump and my hand moves I end up jerking forward under a sudden speed burst. ...

Re: LightningRods mid drive kit

OK so big news. I have been running my motor with incorrect hall and phase wiring since I first got my kit. I just figured this out tonight! Turns out that a certain post earlier in this thread by a poster who will remain nameless was completely wrong about the wiring setup for the stock Infineon co...

Re: LightningRods mid drive kit

Yeah I guess you will have to offer the old style hose clamp brace for people like me and the newer sandwich brace for others. I still suggest you try to make the sandwich as wide as possible to handle more sizes of downtubes. Possibly adding the 2 hole options for thinner and thicker downtubes I me...

Re: LightningRods mid drive kit

I was looking at my bike yesterday thinking about how I could design this for myself. My problem is that my downtube is about 2.75 inches wide! The bolt hole spacing will need to be about 3 inches on center for it to work. Is your design going to work with people like me with heavy duty downhill fra...

Try setting Throttle In: Control Mode to "Pass Thru" on your cycle analyst and see if that smooths out the throttle control.

Re: LightingRod kit standard 09/2014 edition

Take it easy with the power. Too much too soon and your going to hurt it. Loosen the bottom sheet adjustment bolts, readjust the motor and tighten them again. Also then tightnen that motor adjusment bolt (the big star tip one underneath) as much as you can and then make sure it is securely in place ...

Re: LightningRods mid drive kit

Scorpionice and Jdevo I'm liking that diamond shape a lot for grabbing different sizes of round tubing. The hard rubber coating is perfect. Protects the bike's frame and super grabby. It will really help prevent twisting. The other opportunity for improvement over the GNG ghetto hanger is to increa...

Re: LightningRods mid drive kit

I am not having any serious problems with twisting action of the kit but my downtube has a flat surface for the brace to butt up against. I am sure round downtubes might be what is causing the problem. Here are some pictures of my chain guide hack that I am using. I basically use two metal plates an...

Re: LightningRods mid drive kit

Yes I agree that the weakness is the motor will be pulled down under load. Some of that force will be taken by the downtube hose clamp. Alternators just use one large very tight bolt to hold them in place under load...I do not see why it should not be different for this kit. Make room for 3 large ad...

Re: LightningRods mid drive kit

I dont see the issue but I will take your word for it. As long as you have the pivot point on the bottom bolt since that is where it will be most beneficial in giving the kit strength.

Re: LightningRods mid drive kit

I like pivoting 'alternator' style adjusters. I use that style of adjuster on my GNG Gen 2 brackets. The problem with using that style of adjuster here is that you'd be moving the top sheets away from the front frame tube. So you'd also need an adjustable upper frame mount. In fact I think the bott...

Re: LightningRods mid drive kit

I wonder if it would be more prudent to go with a design like this where the bottom bolt acts as a pivot point and the two top bolts are are for adjusting the kit back and forth. This would add a lot of strength to the design. The adjustment pivot range of a kit with this design is not enough to cre...
