Re: 18650 Cell Source

Just thought I'd drop by to say my order from nkon arrived today. Placed it on July 17 and the man at the door wanted $35 CAD and change. Box looked a little beat up but I think the foam peanuts took the brunt of it. Good thing they're hydride batteries. From my experience, I would recommend dealing...

Thanks.

Re: Do any BMS's balance at 4.1V instead of 4.2V?

As was implied (I believe) in one of SMs articles, there really isn't much incentive for battery manufacturers to advertise the fact that NOT fully charging a given cell could significantly increase its lifetime. IF, however, a car company offers an 8 year warranty on their vehicle's battery pack, y...

Re: What kind of charger?

Hmm, that's curious. I'd hate to put myself in the unenviable position of buying one and not being happy because it doesn't perform better than its officially rated.

Thanks for the info, though. 'Preciate it.

Re: What kind of charger?

That's an attractive price, too. They even have 400W one for el-cheapo. Are these safe to use as chargers? Hey Amberwolf, I'm looking at the datasheet for the HLG-600 and it's telling me that the 54A version can be adjusted from 45.9-56.7 but if you're charging a 14s pack you'd need more like 58, so...

Re: What kind of charger?

It would be nice if there were a simple BMS out there that would allow for cell balancing at say 4.1 or 4.15 to extend battery life. @Cal the CLG series do indeed seem to allow for more leeway in adjusting voltage output. Still, it'd be really spiffy to have a charger that would allow for a +/- 1S p...

What's that work out to, 13 cents a watthour? Seems to me anything under 30 and you're doing pretty well.

What are you going to do with 1000 18650 cells though?

Re: Charger voltage issue

Maybe wire something like this little cheapo up to your charger and tape/glue/velcro it on somewheres. It won't be deadly accurate but it should be enough to tell you if something goes dramatically wrong again in the future. http://www.ebay.com/itm/2pcs-Mini-DC-0-100V-Red-LED-3-Digital-Display-Volta...

Geez, I totally forgot about this thread. Sorry guys. Well the other week I tried wiring in a variable resistor in parallel to that big resistor dead center in the picture. Bad things happened. Thanks for the prompt reply. I keep eyeing that seller on ali but have been too chicken to go through with it. Re: Battery charger mod.

keep in mind a resistor on the output wire of the charger will change the voltage in proportion to the current, which is probably not what you want. Diodes on the output also change their voltage drop based on current thru them, but not to the same extent, their drop is more constant, so they'd be ...

Battery charger mod.

Hi guys, I've got a 48v charger--High Power HP8204L4--that I'd like to tame down to bulk charge a 12s lipo pack. I've found the trim pot in the charger but I can't get the output voltage down past 52.4 so that's no good.

Any thoughts on an easy/cheap fix for this?

Thanks.

At the risk of sounding like a dumb shunt myself, how is it that one can not balance two 6s packs simultaneously (in series) if this is a 12s board?
