Re: LiPo Repack question.. restructure or adding extra cells

Well I've rebuilt the pack (and was able to slavage enough cells to keep 7s6P for now with some spares). I decided to keep them in normal pack mostly so I can still use the balance charger. I've started with an 18650 build (still charging/testing cells) and so may even put these back into RC usage ;...

Re: How many of us wear glasses while riding?

I wear glassess to see so except for boarding and scbuba they are always on. Luckly we don't have many bugs in Colorado so I've never been bugged on my ebike.. but back in PA on a motorcycle it was full face all the time, or get welts from the bugs.

Re: RC Lipo series charging tutorial

Advice needed: I'd like to make a 12S LiPo 10,000mah battery. My charger has limitiations. I can only charge a 6S to 5,000mah I'd like to utilize the two Turnigy Accucell-6 charger that I currently own. Should I just buy 4 6S 5000mah batteries and wire two of them up in Parallel then in series? OR ...

Re: Need help with budget build

While I decided to rebuild my battery, I was just recently looking at lots of batteries. Given you want new battery and while am limited to 24v/ 29.4v pack, I looked at lots. While the 48v luna suggested by dakh is nice you might want to consider http://lunacycle.com/36v-18650-20ah-ebike-battery-pac...

Re: What is your preferred headlight beam angle?

I'm more of a spot like type, My dual -6W cree 6000K headlight has a horizontal angle of about 12degres hot and 20degrees total. With the overlap the hot zone is about 18 degree horizontal pattern and 12 vertical, with sufficent lighting for me to see probably 40 degrees wide and 25 high, i.e. it pr...

Re: Need help with budget build

Have you checked Craigslit, it's surprising what e-bike stuff you can find there for a budget minded person. (I got my bike there, dumped the SLAs and went my RC lithiums, all for much cheaper than i could do a ebay-hub kit.) Even adding my repairs (2 tires, 4 tubes, some gears, a CellLog8 and now a...

Re: CellLog 8 hacking

Also, not exactly a hack, but I was able to read the data out of the celllog using my mac. I just had to download the USB driver direct from the chip maker: https://www.silabs.com/products/mcu/Pages/USBtoUARTBridgeVCPDrivers.aspx Then I could connect to the port using CoolTerm, and read the data in...

Re: CellLog 8S battery monitor and logger - any reviews?

28.7 on the cell log and 29.41 on meter. Quite a big difference. Has anyone else seen this type of behavior? Often, when the multimeter's battery is low, it reads higher than it should. Might check that first, but it could be a real difference in accuracy. Thanks, I had already checked the batterie...

Wow. You have done an amazing job with this! Question- I am using the newer RS-150-24 and the pcb layout is totally different than the S-150-24!!! I need to raise the OVP level to 29 volts to stop hiccuping. Can you help? I assume I need to change a zener? Follow the SVR1 circuit back to a resistor...

Re: CellLog 8S battery monitor and logger - any reviews?

I've been using a CellLog8 for about a year. Today I was setting up a new BMS and for the first time I happened to compare the CellLog with my metered values. to my surprise it was noticably off, both on the overall value and the per-cell. IMG_20150716_191149.jpg 28.7 on the cell log and 29.41 on me...

Re: is A123 8s2p 4.6Ah enough for 500W bike?

Figured I'd post a final "what I did" on my own question. Did not get get A123 yet, but to test things out, since I had killed a few of my lipos, I decided to try the ride with 6Ah of 7S lipo (20C rated thunderpower) charged to 28.8v as I would get from A123. I had no problem making it to work and b...

LiPo Repack question.. restructure or adding extra cells?

I am rebuilding some of my lipo packs. each pack had a cell that went bad and dragged the 3P group down below 2.7V (one to 2.3, another to 1.8 another to .85 and a 4th to .67 and 5t and 6th at .35 -- the latter three were from packs sitting on the shelf for quite a while until I thought about disass...

Is sz_ohmygod (3439 ) 99.5% Positive feedback a reputable seller? Or someone you just stumbled upon. His sales and feedback look alright, perhaps a little low (3439), for the payment risk. $130x2 at a minimum for 52.8V 4.6Ahwith free delievery and those huge anderson connectors, so $520 for 52.8V a...

Re: is A123 8s2p 4.6Ah enough for 500W bike?

If you can force some air across the A123 cells, 10C continuous for a few minutes should not be a major problem. Won't last as long as a larger pack of the same cells, but should handle your duty cycle just fine I think. I've been able to overheat A123 26650's in testing, but I had to pull 45-50C f...

Thanks, I had not seen that part of the thread. I also briefly looked at your bleed-down testing post. That's good information to have! I'm thinking I'll make up a testing rig with spring-connectors out of wood or some-such for easy cell removal/replacement.... perhaps for 20P or so. I'm planning o...

In this thread http://endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=67711&p=1027414&hilit=+26650#p1020654 they found no appreciable temp increase for 10A (4C) though it was only a short period (1min @2c 1min @4c), So I felt maybe 4C is still safe usage. My usage will be shor...

eTrike, Thanks for the link. hope there are some left at that price, even used ones will be great for me in a 8s4p or 8s5p config ;-) the BMS is mostly for low-voltage cutout since the a123 fall off a cliff. My thunderpower-based Lipo pack is starting to show its age after a year on my bike (bought them in 2008 and used them for UAV... so >500 cycles now). My commute is short but steep so I max out my 500w 24v motor, so use 30A for 2-3 min of the trip that is 6-8% grades, whole trip is only 6min). The h...

Re: BMS sizing? SmartBMS quality? Group Buy?

Wouldn't your 24v motor be grateful getting 36? 10s is going to be a lot more common. Though a bestech bms can usually be under populated. So ordering a 10s and then using it 7s is acceptable. Nope.. tested it and the controller shuts down at 30.5 .. and I don't really want to get too close to that...
