Re: (What is) The Best Damn 500W (front) Hub Money Can Buy?

But in front, I'd definitely lean towards a lighter geared motor, than a 15 pound 9c type dd. Bear in mind, I put 5000 commute miles on front hubs, and once built a 4000w 50 mph race bike with front hub. I liked front hub that much. But I never really liked the weight of it up front. I did front fo...

Re: (What is) The Best Damn 500W (front) Hub Money Can Buy?

I see you still don't get it. "BEST" is a question which CAN NOT BE ANSWERED, until and unless, YOU, the OP, describe just exactly what YOU want to do with it. Bob. With all the respect due that you don't deserve. Other responses to my post prove that you are WRONG. I have forgotten more ...

Re: 52 volt batteries proceed with caution

I don't get it. The article reads like the company had a demand for 52V packs, so they built a bunch with shoddy construction, then blame it on the fact that it's a 52V pack when they failed? Is that it? Not sure what to conclude. Or are they focusing only on Hailong packs? I don't get it either. B...

Re: (What is) The Best Damn 500W (front) Hub Money Can Buy?

"BEST" is a judgement call requiring a well-described set of usage conditions in order to give a useful answer. It's kind of like identifying the "STUPIDEST" question, for which this one is a serious contender. I would kind of get it if yours was the first response to my questio...

(What is) The Best Damn 500W (front) Hub Money Can Buy?

I won't call any names but @Mad Rhino just pooped all over the motor I was going to buy for my ebike build. Big time. Threw it under the bus, ran over it, backed up and had another go. Crystalyte H series. I understand that he, and a number of others like the Leaf Motor 1500W motors. Aren't those ju...

Re: DIY vs. Commercial: How/ Why(not)?

Yikes, look what happened to my thread while I was away. Life got real interesting about 5 days after I posted back in March. I haven't needed to commute 15mi each way since then. If you get my meaning. So I had no reason to check back here until today. Literally, this morning. Part of the o.p. has ...

What does a good battery pack go for in 2020?

Hi, like the title says, I'm wondering just how much to budget for the battery in my e-assist kit. I'd like it to be 52V. It seems like 20ah is the upper limit and that's fine. I've seen batteries like that for $500 from what I think is a reputable source but I have also seen a pack that size with s...

Re: DIY vs. Commercial: How/ Why(not)?

Hi and thanks. Thanks for all the good ideas from everyone who has posted. I will try to touch on questions that have been asked. One of them being budget. Of course I would like to spend as little as possible. I do want something that will look good and last for awhile. To put a number on it ... th...

DIY vs. Commercial: How/ Why(not)?

Getting old (60+). Still fairly fit, but can't see small parts anymore. Wrenching is getting to be a headache (literally). Want an e-bike because 30mi. (roundtrip) commute. Short-list: Trek Allant+ 8s; Raleigh Redux IE; Giant Quik E+. These are all Class III bikes and look nice to my eyes. I will be...

DIY Front Hub Battery - Possible?

Greetings: I've always thought the front hub battery of the extant Tidal Force was pretty cool. E+ copied the design but I am out of the financial running of a commercial product like that. has anyone over rolled their own and either chronicled the build or are their other ways to learn about how th...

Two motors, one throttle, good idea?

Greetings- I am new to this site. I've heard of it of course and my research has led me here before. I'm mainly a geek who likes to know a little bit about everythihng. Now I have an actual need for an e-assist and a budget amount to complete it. We are a car free couple who must use tandems as our ...
