Re: Gearing suggestions for MTB build

The diyelectricskateboard mount may not provide a long enough distance between the center of the pulleys/sprockets. According to the maker of it, the mount provides 65mm to 85mm, although don't go for 85mm because you need room to tighten and provide tension. If you are using pulleys, then use this ...

Re: 10S custom skate ESC: testers wanted!

Great points Vedder. Is there somewhere we can record all of the failures and modes of failure? Questions like: - What error code is showing or what component appears to be damaged? - Was the user connecting 2 VESCs together at time of failure? - Did the user run the detection process prior to using...

Re: 10S custom skate ESC: testers wanted!

When I hit the sensorless parameter detection button with default parameters, the motor does not move, but I'm afraid to mess with the detection parameters because I don't really know which direction I should change them and how much. I have a 149kv motor at 6S. 6A should definitely be enough curre...

Re: 10S custom skate ESC: testers wanted!

Figured it out! Vedder does not use version control for BLDC-Tool, but if you look at the commit history , go to the commit on Feb 19, 2015 and click the button that says "browse the repository at this point in history". Then click download zip, unzip it, open up terminal, cd to the folder, qmake, m...

Re: 10S custom skate ESC: testers wanted!

It shouldn't be hard to distribute an old version of the BLDC-Tool so people who are receiving their VESCs can play with it, while we wait for new instructions/software.

Re: 10S custom skate ESC: testers wanted!

When following Vedder's instructions, it's not always clear what to do when we don't have the "programming cable", but instead are using the mini usb port. Am I suppose to run make while in the bldc-firmware folder, then use the BLDC-Tool to upload it? When I hit connect with the BLDC-Tool it says "...

My turnigy trackstar gen II has brakes, but they are unusable because sometimes they brake too suddenly and it can get dangerous. VESC brakes work great :D

Re: 10S custom skate ESC: testers wanted!

I just hooked the VESC up to my 149kv (single motor) at 6S, and OH MY GOD IT ROCKS! I had been using the "Turnigy Trackstar 150A GenII", sensorless, and it had so much cogging at low speeds or up hill. On VESC I get no cogging unless it is from a stand-still pointed up a hill! I haven't configured t...

Re: $200-300 Electric Penny Board

I highly suggest starting off by building the board with a standard wireless Tx/Rx which you can get for $20 and is plug-and-play with your ESC. Once it works well, buy the load sensor and arduino, and play around with it.

It would be a million times easier to just get the GPS shield for arduino and use GPS to find your speed. Assuming you are outside, it will be an incredibly accurate speed.

Traction and balance just aren't an issue, even with only 1 motor. Only reason would be if you wanted to climb a hill that went up 45 degrees =P

Re: Kryptonics Board hub motor

I believe that I use the same $70 motor in my belt driven build as these $200 hub motors and get similar if not better performance. Until the technology gets better, I really don't see any benefit to hub motors. Without any performance benefit over mounted motors, the only benefit to going hub moto...
