Re: The Monolith: World's First Skateboard with In-wheel Mot

I think in-wheel motors have a clear place in DIY, but not as clear in a commercial board. For my build I spent $80 on a motor, $20 on a wheel, and $150 on the alien drive motor mount and pulley system (did not want to weld). So take away the mount and pulleys and I would have been glad to spend $25...

Re: PROPRIETARY SOLUTION -vs- UNIVERSAL/ADAPTABLE

Standards are mostly about the interface between two parts, the problematic ones being: Interface between motor mount and trucks (mostly limited to caliber trucks for those who cant weld) Interface between wheel and pulley (will always be specific to a wheel) Interface between battery and motor cont...

Yeah you would need an insanely low kv motor... I guess the main benefit would be so you don't have to deal with the motor mount and pulleys?

Re: The Monolith: World's First Skateboard with In-wheel Mot

They mention how they seek to "avoid drag while kick-pushing the board", and later it says "The Monolith’s Rev Wheel can be changed in ten seconds without any tools. This way you’re always ready to ride." So sounds to me like they may have initially intended to design a hub motor that had no drag, t...

The remote looks like something my wife would enjoy

20 mph uphill via a single hub-motor inside a 79mm wheel does not pass the sniff test in my opinion.

Re: built advice with battery C for 4KW kit and T5 pulley

I assume you mean 5000 mah. Are you using one battery per motor? I'm using the same batteries, but two in series per motor, so 6S per motor. I don't think the weight from the 2 pulleys and belt is significant. You can get "Polycarbonate, Fiberglass Reinforced" pulleys from sdp-si which will be light...

I'm sure it says it somewhere in this thread, but how much will it cost to buy one of the test production run ESCs, and is there a waitlist?

Re: Marbel vs. Boosted vs. Evolve

We usually see about 14-22 watt-hours per mile with our setup. Any thought that you might eventually create a version for longer commutes, perhaps for someone willing to trade off on the top speed? Workplace is 10.5 to 12 miles from where I live (depending on route). Uber cost for the ride is $40 (...

I keep the trucks loose so I can get around right turns in the sidewalk, so needless to say I don't let myself go too fast downhill.

Re: Electric Penny Nickel (27")

Haha nice setup. Huge motor for a penny board lol. Did you get your sensored setup working? Nah I can't get the sensor working. I'm using the e0design sensor and motor adapter, but regardless of how far I slide the sensor board in either direction, the motor just wobbles. The controller is definite...

Electric Penny Nickel (27")

Electric Penny board! This is the 27" and it's a knockoff penny deck but seems to work fine. It's crazy fun to ride but going fast feels dangerous. -Caliber 50 10" trucks -83mm flywheels, offbrand from ebay -149kv SK3-6374 motor -Turnigy Trackstar 150A GenII 1/8th ESC -2x ZIPPY Flightmax 5000mAh 3S1...

Re: Turnigy Trackstar 150A GenII Software

I bought the programming card and it connects to a computer via usb. I'm using the TS USB link v1.10 software. I had some issues getting it connected, and the solution I found was to plug in the programming card to my computer right as I opened the software. It is very finicky, I would not buy again...

Turnigy Trackstar 150A GenII Software

I finally got the usb link to work with my Turnigy Trackstar 150A GenII, but as far as I can find there is no soft-start option, and no way to limit the max current. Anyone know if either is possible with this esc? I'm running it sensorless.

48v ? Why not put a proper bms together. That is what you are doing, except your bms only balances while charging. 10k and 4v is so little power my calc has gone all scientific on me. 1.6 to the power of -03 watts. It won't be going flat at any time soon. Sorry should have clarified, it is a 2wd bo...

Yeah it will definitely drain a tiny bit of power. I could just remove the balance plugs when storing the board for more than a day.

Leaving LiPo charger connected during use

Anyone know if it is OK to leave the DC portion of LiPo chargers connected to the batteries while the skateboard is running? I'm using four Hobbyking DC-4S chargers so it is pretty convenient to leave the four JST-XH balance plugs connected and simply plug all four chargers into the DC power supply ...

Re: LiFePO4 battery source anyone?

So 6s (around 20 V) at 4400 mAh would cost $160? Lipo equivalent is around $40, and you don't have to wire up the battery pack yourself which adds risk. Perhaps what we should discuss is how to make a vented metal bunker for the Lipos out of sheet steel that would mitigate most of a lipo burn up, an...

I would add LEIF Tech's skateboard. They use two powered wheels in the center of the board, providing snowboard-like maneuvering. They say they are coming out mid-late 2015. http://www.leiftech.com/
