Re: Assembled Hi-Power LiPo battery packs - any interest?

It seems those hard case batteries are the most bang for the buck from Hobbyking. And also I've been told those are the most popular batteries from Hobbyking, so they have a short shelf life. And that would mean longer life in your bike. Other higher priced batteries can be sitting around too long ...

Re: Gyro for controlled Wheelies

I think that could work. But not as well as the tiny $5 dead-reckoning chips that do all this hard stuff for you auto-magically and weigh <1g and are robust to vibration and shock and temperatures and all that. True, but this could have a nasty functional steampunk/aeronautical look 8) I need to lo...

Re: Gyro for controlled Wheelies

Hi folks, Not on the board for long but I'm interested in this too! Maybe I have a way for you to counter hills and velocity. I can be wrong but to limit error of calibration when straining the sensor with velocity or terrain variations, why not try a double tri axis liquid based sensor setup? Let m...

Re: Mid monster/Hub monster powered cruiser in mind, seek ad

John, I'll look for it it's truly a killer price (specially with money conversion). By the way could you PM me two total quotes for both Mid Monster and Hubmonster shipped ? I've been measuring the space I can allow to the hub and I've got less than I thought but still plenty even for a mid drive fa...

Re: Mid monster/Hub monster powered cruiser in mind, seek ad

Ok thank you I understand better :D Plus you're right about the flammable hazard I'll add a steel enclosure on the bike instead of a simple Alu or wooden one. Or inner layer of steel and outer layer of wood. Need to dig holes in a direction where I won't risk backfire in case of problem. I'm surpris...

Re: Mid monster/Hub monster powered cruiser in mind, seek ad

John, Ok no problem, never considered the MiniMonster. It sure has its advantages but considering I want to occasionally ride with madame I'm thinking that it would suffer from the total weight and hills. I'm a bit of "big block" guy don't tickle me too much on the HubMonster  Plus it will alre...

Re: Auto Cruise vs Manual Cruise

Hi, From using regularly my car's cruise control I can definitely say that it's safer to use a manual cruise control with adjustable speed input when it's turned "ON" and also with automatic desactivation when you press the brake. Also the cruising speed could have a minimum speed limit set so you d...

John  I thought that you had new models in inventory or in order, my bad. In this case could you post for me the dimensions o...

Re: Mid monster/Hub monster powered cruiser in mind, seek ad

John  Haha I see what you mean! Ok so it's better for me to go with a street type fork. By fat tyres youg ot it right, I like both the "big meat" look of some motorcycle tires and the fat pedal bikes tyres too. I was wondering if the fat ones were reliable at high speed but I'm not really sur...

Re: Mid monster/Hub monster powered cruiser in mind, seek ad

John thank you for the detailed explanation again. As for the controllers I'll wait for your tests, I'm not in a hurry. Heat-production wise, electric motors are not that much different from gas engines. You need to get the optimal temperature to get most power and compression from the engine. At co...

Don't be sorry your like a teacher and I think that's what most of guys here including myself need ! Thank you for the numbers I'll follow this route for my build. Are the controllers in my initial post ok for the high voltage you recommend or should I search for another model ? I recall 72-100v was...

Re: Mid monster/Hub monster powered cruiser in mind, seek ad

Sure I can cut the rim myself, by "out of the box" I was referring to the sealed state you were talking about. I'll wait for your results to see how much AL can be removed before trying anything else than cutting the rim though, better not waste a fine housing by lack of knowledge. Smoothness is a n...

Re: Mid monster/Hub monster powered cruiser in mind, seek ad

Ok so I can start with the "off the box" sealed motor and only if improvements are needed should I unseal it, given that it is not much of a threat as it spins too fast to get damaging objects to enter it. Thanks for your input guys  and thanks for the build link and sprocket trick Bluefang! I...

Re: Mid monster/Hub monster powered cruiser in mind, seek ad

John That's good news, even better overall power from the hub then :D I trust your hubs, for having seen some threads here with your units you can't be wrong. I prefer "overengineering" than "underengineering", a stronger unit gives you room to make upgrades or even allow to forgive mistakes. You go...

Izeman  You're totally right I need to redesign the seat supports. I need too to check these Leaf Cells, I don't know what it's worth for and I see lots of good review on it. I'll re-sketch it by taking the seat support in account and also the frontal weight as John said, incoming shortly! Jo...

Re: Mid monster/Hub monster powered cruiser in mind, seek ad

Hi Izeman thank you for your detailed reply ! About the raw materials I have an easier access to Alu and steel than chrome moly, same for the machining I can put a "one single piece" frame. My hills might not be at 35% (in another thread I saw a guy posting pictures of his location with 30%, it's wa...

Macribs --> Thanks for the interest ! John --> It's a pleasure to get you as first answer. I did some measures on my way to work this morning, hills were ranging from 5 to 20 degrees. Range is not the main goal because I commute under 30km (including parking time when I search a spot), longer trips ...
