Re: KMX Cro + A123 + Adaptto Commuter

Approximately, probably a few over now, with rack and bags and whatnot. Don't have a scale anymore and my last wasn't accurate anyway but it came to 95. 95 is a good weight. You'd only need to lose 5 lbs to fit a good shell... That CroMotor is 24 lbs. I've tried to time acceleration, but the watchi...

Re: Critique this performance velomobile idea

Thanks, xenodius. That information was very useful, and has served to reinforce the notion that what I want to build is possible. A CroMotor may be too heavy for my requirements though, and I'd be better off with something of less weight, in order for me to account for the weight of a front/rear sus...

Re: KMX Cro + A123 + Adaptto Commuter

Your trike weighs exactly 100 lbs? If so, that's good news for my build, although the CroMotor is overkill from hell(and very heavy). Did you ever time its acceleration? 0-10, 20, 30, 40, and 50 mph? How heavy and of what type are your wheels and tires? How much power(kW, A, and V) are you applying ...

Re: My application: Lancia-Ferrari D50 electric replica

If I were to build from scratch, I'd make my own unique creation, and not a replica of a classic car. The aerodynamic and weight advantages possible with a custom build are just too much to ignore, when the mainstream auto industry already mostly ignores these things as it is in favor of planned obs...

Re: Critique this performance velomobile idea

Interesting article on recumbent aerodynamics: https://lonniemorse.wordpress.com/2013/03/13/faired-or-un-faired/ I rode my KMX home at 53mph not twenty minutes ago  And that, only because I haven't yet gotten the 0603 resistor to fix my controller and get my 60mph top end back. And that's o...

Re: Critique this performance velomobile idea

Dauntless, both of those videos depicted vehicles that were much too heavy for my application. They looked very solidly built, but I need to take the "less is more" approach for my design. It will keep it legal, improve its acceleration, cornering, and braking, reduce overall stresses on the chassis...

Re: Critique this performance velomobile idea

Well, the roads here are "smooth", in that they are usually well-paved...except for the ridges/waves/dips/potholes caused mostly by heat and large vehicle acceleration/braking at or near intersections, driveways, etc. There are exceptions, most of which I avoid, but some areas like right next to wh...

Re: Critique this performance velomobile idea

Chalo, that link is good info that I probably would have never come across. Thanks! I'm glad that there are safe 30+ mph rated tires out there, and of which would be suitable if I kept this build at 35 mph or less. The low rolling resistance that skinny tires of that sort can provide is a desirable ...

Re: My electric Triumph GT6

It's a shame I only get about 2 weeks a year to work on it. I designed it when I was 17-18... it was originally supposed to use 25 Exide Orbital XCD30 AGMs and get 70+ miles range, but by the time I was ready to put batteries in it, LiFePO4 was widely available and similar in cost per kWh, while als...

Re: Critique this performance velomobile idea

Might wanna look into that some more. Somewhere in my posts from near end of 2013 I think it was, you can see where I had problems with my 20" hookworm sidewalls failing. Tire itself is ok, still has lots of tread left. I can't remember the mileage but it should be in the post with pics of the side...

Re: 0 - 60 in under 2 seconds

It's not really a hub motor though, more a "direct coupled". Motor and gearbox, and it's not clear if the 3.4kg includes the gearbox and hub assy, so you may still have to add the weight of any necessary wheel bearing/hub/ upright support system, which would all add to the weight compared to other ...

I found an interesting writing on build materials for kayaks: https://texasrecumbents.wordpress.com/skin-on-frame/ http://www.gaboats.com/ 8 lbs for a kayak... and it is a strong, rigid material, unlike the zote-foam that I thought of using. Rigidity provides safety. A rigid body could allow me to s...

Re: 0 - 60 in under 2 seconds

Possibly, but remember.. Their vehicle only weighed 168 kg......what do you expect yours to weigh ? My e-trike is going to be under 100 lbs(45 kg) to meet the legal definition of "electric bicycle" in the state of Texas. I'm looking for a top speed of 50 mph. In a velomobile with a drag area of 0.1...

Beating the dead horse. I also ASSumed any cops in a mood to pull you over would be a dick, as would the judge be pissed because you made him think hard. My electric Triumph GT6

Attached are pictures of my electric Triumph GT6. They are out of date by 1 year. It runs and drives, but is not finished or road legal, and it has had very limited testing. It has no problem peeling out, but hasn't yet been driven over 30 mph. I estimate from simulation that it should do 0-60 mph i...

Re: Critique this performance velomobile idea (calling zombi

I suspect your "Foam" vehicle isn't foam, that's sheet material wrapping it. Another thing people use is coroplast. WIthout compound curves it should be easy. From your neck of the woods. The following site describes what the material is/does. http://www.recumbents.com/mars/pages/proj/tetz/manual/0...

Re: Critique this performance velomobile idea

I now have the trike in my possession for $500 plus about $30 in gas money for a friend that drove me 80 miles out of town to pick it up. Re: Critique this performance velomobile idea (calling zombi

There are a lot of low drag velos on the market that are 70 lbs and under and can handle high speeds for at least brief periods. Here's an example of one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LkHV6JZvdDs Granted, I would use larger brakes in something like this, and probably completely different wheels a...

What did you do? This is Texas; it's not hard to have a driver's license here. Lots of people who shouldn't ever have one, do. ...nothing that ever got me arrested, or a criminal record, or harmed anyone or their property, or even resulted in a ticket. I could PM you the details if you really want ...
