Re: KiwiEVs next project fast EV

That makes sense in the Sonic driving around at 40 kph it uses bugger all juice and I can do 10 km on less that 3% of the battery. Thanks mate :D This is why I keep saying that you need to build a streamliner body for that Sonic. No kit that I know of will give you this, you will need to build it f...

Re: KiwiEVs next project fast EV

Thanks Toecutter Great info bro especially the air drag on the Toyota truck, can you tell me at what speed drag really effects an EV? Thanks in advance Kiwi :D At about 40 km/h in an automobile, air drag accounts for as much power to maintain cruising speed as all other losses combined, and its per...

Re: Critique this performance velomobile idea

I was finally able to source some vinyl webbing, 1/8" wide pop rivets, and 1/8"x1" washers to re-furbish my seat. It will be black, to match the paintjob and components that are currently installed on the frame. Maybe it will be done this weekend. Then I can start riding this regularly in place of m...

Re: Are Electric Cars Really Green?

The Doran had a very inefficient body. I imagine that an ideal next generation version of the Doran would probably end up looking like a larger relative of the Milan SL velomobile, but designed to seat two in tandem, and without the bicycle pedals. Use a carbon fiber-reinforced plastic monocoque cha...

Re: KiwiEVs next project fast EV

Im hope for 200 km combined highway city drive which I dont think is unrealistic :D If you know how to keep the accelerator in check and do 80% of the trip under 90 kmh, and use various hypermiling techniques, its very possible. It's not what someone unacquainted with how to efficiently drive an EV...

Would you mind sending me a parts list for that suspension? I might decide to build one similar to it for my project at a later date.

How well does this suspension work at higher speeds or over potholes? What speeds do you feel safe travelling at and under what environmental conditions?

Re: Are Electric Cars Really Green?

Nothing to figure out, since I'm obviously not asking anything. I'm WONDERING at the shift of a thread titled 'Are Electric Cars Really Green?' into discussing gas vehicles. (???) The only curiousity of your old ad would be which one it was, leading to assumptions of how the kitcar market really wo...

Re: KiwiEVs next project fast EV

Well at this stage I think 18650 are best capacity for buck I really would like like 35 Kwh to give me hopefully 200km range. You're going to need some aerodynamic modifications to pull that off if the desired range is achieved at 90 kmh or more. This truck is a big, unaerodynamic, heavy beast of a...

How much does it weigh with the two packs, and how much does it weigh without them? I've had a similar idea for a vehicle in mind for quite a while, but to keep it road legal as a bicycle within the jurisdiction of my location(no insurance, license, title, ect), I need to keep the vehicle weight und...

Re: Critique this performance velomobile idea

I took the trike out today to commute to work. Inside of the parking garage, at low speeds(< 5 mph) I purposely made the trike go up on two wheels while cornering sharply. My best guess is that the trike loses its stability at about 0.5-0.6G of lateral force before it raises one of the front wheels ...

First , the pictures of that short wheelbase tadpole trike you posted a picture of below, I would only use for speeds under 30mph, I did research on this a few years back and decided against such a bike. it will only be good/safe/fun for low speeds. My current trike has a wheelbase of 51" and a fro...

Re: Critique this performance velomobile idea

YOu can also use nylon "webbing" meant for overhead canopy stuff; that's what my CrazyBIke2 seat was made of originally, with holes melted thru it's doubled-up edges so I could lace the back together with paracord to tension it. Presently it is made of the nylon base "sheet" that was on a sleeper c...

Re: Critique this performance velomobile idea

I retrieved the trike today and rode it 8 miles back home. I had just one opportunity to get a ride over to the bike shop in the early morning, and took it, thus requiring me to ride back on an empty stomach, so I didn't push myself very hard, but I probably averaged about 12 mph, and topped out at ...

Re: Are Electric Cars Really Green?

With regard to efficiency and performance, the mainstream automakers have been building vehicles almost as good as the VLC, even though their design principles follow the antiquated and still popular 3-box model. The catch is that they never sold them to the public, even when the public wanted them....

Re: Are Electric Cars Really Green?

Or a 300 MPGe 10kWh electric drive. The Aptera did similar efficiency. Bonus is that more peak horsepower won't lead to efficiency losses at lower levels of power input to the motor, as gasoline and diesel engines do. Too bad The EdisonVLC can never be built or sold since it won't pass crash testin...

He may have had a shot at selling kits, but instead squandered all the prize money trying to design something to pass our onerous four wheeler laws, an insurmountable obstacle for all but an internet billionaire. Most of the obstacles were lobbied into place by the Big 3 during the 1970s and 1980s ...

I look forward to testing some top speed(s) with various faring designs.

Re: Are Electric Cars Really Green?

I've been for decades of the opinion that cars should be designed more like velomobiles. That is, the car should be designed as an entire system to be as efficient as possible for the intended set of performance parameters(parameters including but not limited to handling, acceleration, safety, top s...
