Re: Leaf / leafmotor / leafbike high efficiency 1500w motor

A 7-speed freewheel is sometimes a tight fit, depending on the frame, but I'm told the 6-speed mega range fits easily, and still works with 7-speed derailleur. I have 135mm dropouts. The salesperson at Leafbike told me a 7-speed cassette would fit, after I told them I planned to go with 9 speed. Gl...

Re: Leaf / leafmotor / leafbike high efficiency 1500w motor

Because of the coronavirus, my motor wasn't able to be built. They offered to send me a 4T wind 1500W version instead, 3mm phase wires pre-installed, no extra charge, and I took it. It arrived last Wednesday, and I was advised not to open the box for 2 weeks. I'll open the box when the 2 weeks has p...

Re: Leaf / leafmotor / leafbike high efficiency 1500w motor

I got a notification a bit over a week ago that my motor would have to be built. This gave me a chance to specify 3mm phase wires, with the consequence being that the protective spring could not be fit to cover the insulation of the wires bundled together through the center of the case. The motor ha...

Re: Leaf / leafmotor / leafbike high efficiency 1500w motor

Thank you for sharing that link. It will come in handy soon. Also, does anyone have figures for the hysteresis drag torque and eddy current drag torque for the Leafbike motors? I could not find these figures published anywhere, but it would be nice to calculate how much wattage I'll need to overcome...

Re: Leaf / leafmotor / leafbike high efficiency 1500w motor

How difficult is it to change out the phase wires? Are there any guides or diagrams in this thread showing some of the process? I know there's pics located somewhere in this thread showing the motor case open, but I don't have the time to look through all of the pages to find it.

Re: Leaf / leafmotor / leafbike high efficiency 1500w motor

One of the nice things about brushless motors is that they are very tolerant of a wide range of voltages. As far as how many amps to use, it all depends on how often you'll be using high amps. I feel the ideal temp is around 140F, but it is widely regarded to keep the motor safe by not exceeding 93...

Re: Leaf / leafmotor / leafbike high efficiency 1500w motor

My Leafbike motor is now ordered. I requested 1000W version built into a 26" double-walled rim with 5T wind, 10K NTC thermistor, and cassette compatibility. Cost was $304.88 including shipping. I went with a cassette version instead of freewheel because replacement 11-34T freewheels are not made any...

Re: Leaf / leafmotor / leafbike high efficiency 1500w motor

If you are getting the motor from leafbike, get ready to change the thermistor to a 10K. I like your setup, currently my front chainrings 30/39/50 but is to low for what I want at my cadence. Did you buy your ring set or build it? I was going to ask them to install it for me. One of the members her...

Can be powered by either an electric motor alone OR with combined human power. CANNOT go faster than 28 MPH without applying human power. No more than 750 watts. This change in the law was recent. There used to be a speed limit of 20 mph without applying human power, but no power limit, the weight ...

Re: Leaf / leafmotor / leafbike high efficiency 1500w motor

Just to be clear, the 1000W version can reliably handle a 21s pack of Li Ion, correct? The salesperson at Leafbike recommended the 1500W version of this motor if I want to run it at more than 48V. I'm planning to get a 5T wind of the 1000W motor with cassette compatibility and a 10K NTC thermistor f...

Re: Car replacement E-bike that fits me

So put the toe in back and added couple mm of toe in to it. but if I ride around 40km on a worn road it feels wild and I don't like that. The width from the edge of tire to edge of tire should be narrower in the front of the wheel than the back of the wheel by 1/16th of an inch. It sounds to me lik...

Re: ICE Sprint 26 with BBSHD build. (recumbent trike)

Right now the trike has a 36t chainring and a 11-32 cassette. I see that Sunrace sells a cheap 11-40 cassette that fits and i have the old chainset with a 38t and a 52t ring on it. I can for fairly cheap convert to 38-52 chainring and 11-40 cassette. I can also convert to 42t chainring and a 11-46 ...

Re: ICE Sprint 26 with BBSHD build. (recumbent trike)

Is that your velomobile Toecutter? If so, do you have a build thread? That velomobile belongs to Orin Peters. I linked to that one because it is a design that will fit the OP's make of trike. Orin was able to reach more than 40 mph in it on flat ground at Battle Mountain, NV. There is no motor of a...

Re: ICE Sprint 26 with BBSHD build. (recumbent trike)

I have to correct myself, i just got back in from a long ride, and i did 45kmh(28mph) with the trailer behind me. It was rough even on paved road. Before long, you'll be making a velomobile body shell for it. https://www.flickr.com/photos/okpeters/sets/72157651905111646/ Then you'll delight as your...

Re: ICE Sprint 26 with BBSHD build. (recumbent trike)

This is a nice trike. I'd recommend keeping the front derailleur. Try doing 25 mph over a rough section of road where your trike gets hammered by potholes and see if the chain stays on. If it comes off, for sure you'll want the front derailleur as a chain stay, or at least SOME type of chain stay in...

Re: Leaf / leafmotor / leafbike high efficiency 1500w motor

Thank you all for the info. The seller wants to meet a few weeks from now. I'll have plenty of questions that they may not know the answer to, but since it is possible to take the motor apart to install new components for my requirements, then I know I can make it work regardless of what it has in it.

I believe the idea that they may be more visible to motorists, especially here where drivers have to be more alert for obstacles in the road than they do in the States, but I don't trust any of them. You shouldn't. Ever. They can be looking right at you and claim they didn't see you. Unless I've ma...

Re: Ok, so I crashed again today...Is it time for a trike in the city?

For this reason, I’d say go for a trike. You’d be much less likely to ride the sidewalk on a trike. Then, a clever build for a commuter trike is a tadpole fast enough to merge with trafic, with a high flag to be seen. I find riding a trike to be a lot less stressful than riding a bike on the whole....

Yep trikes are the way! otherDoc Before I first rode one, I wasn't expecting I'd like it as much as I did. It's nice not being forced to be aware of the need to balance all the time and expend effort to do so, especially at stops, or to be constantly on the lookout for conditions that could destroy...

Re: Leaf / leafmotor / leafbike high efficiency 1500w motor

Don't know enough to recommend. I know that the leafmotor handles 2k well but above that you need to watch the tempter. I bought pair of leafmotors at the same time. One came with a sensor installed and the other did not. The one with the sensor will not work with the CA3 but at least the wire is i...
