I most of the time bulk charge with a Meanwell, set to the equivalent of 4.15v per cell.

Re: What kind of charger?

I actually tried to buy a Satiator to begin with, but the appropriate model was out of stock. That might be what I end up getting, but they sure are expensive. I'd like to consider other options before I jump. I actually have a cheesy imax charger that I can use for a little while. As long as I sta...

Re: Tipping point, 2017 drop in price of solar PV

Yesterday I flew over the new (still installing)) PV power plant, in the next county. I won't bother posting a pic, but it's huge, maybe 200 acres? Not sure of the KW total. This same county also has two large wind farms, and the local farmers love them, they farm around them and get about 3 to 6 d...

Re: Shipping a regular bicycle to Maryland

They can get a box from a bike store and just take off the front wheel, pedals and handlebars. Ship FedEx Ground/home, or google bike shipping for discounted prices. Theres a brace to put in the front fork and one to protect the derailleur from bending (but I take the derailleur loose and just let i...

He never actually said he was getting a front motor. If you look at the ebay listing it says Front or Rear.

Re: Ebike conversion 600$ budget

The problem with front hub motor is that most mountain bikes come with an alloy front shock. These front dropouts are a bit weak and can crack off from the torque of the axle. Also, the motor body may not fit in between the fork tubes if it is one of the wide geared motors.

Re: Ebike conversion 600$ budget

I don't think a 700C size wheel will work on a 1990's mountainbike, which generally takes 26 inch (unless it's a hybrid bike). I prefer the Dolphin battery if it will fit in your frame because it is more sturdy and has an on/off switch and USB port. The generic torque arms are kind of thin and often...

Re: Help with Bafang SWXK 36V 250W, battery connectors

Typically a battery connector will only have plus and minus. So, two pins on one side will be plus and the other side minus. Open the case and look at the wires connecting to the back of the pins, which is red and which black.

They make some corner bumpers so that toddlers don't get hurt by sharp corners on furniture etc. Don't know if these would work.

Re: Panasonic NCR18650PF

The cells are probably performing in spec. Note several factors: Temp is important, for example at 20 deg. C the nominal capacity is 2750mah, vs 25 deg. C. Discharge rate is important, discharge at a standard rate, ie .2C, 1C etc. so you can compare to the rated capacity on graph. End voltage is imp...

Re: Cost/Benefit Questions for first ebike build (BBX's)

For reliability, having to change my tires on the road is nearly impossible with DDs right? I have changed probably 10 tubes on my DD rear hub motor, and while it is a pain to take the wheel off, it is doable. I think it really depends on your tire, some brands are known to fit tighter to the wheel...

Re: Cost/Benefit Questions for first ebike build (BBX's)

FWIW, I have commuted on a BBS02 for 1 year and recently upgraded to a BBSHD. My commute is roughly equivalent to yours in length and hills. I weigh about 220 lbs + 50 lbs for everything else. I previously had a flat commute and used a 1000W DD front hub motor from eBay. One day while riding in wit...

Hi, can you calculate the voltage of each cell group, ie 1 is 4.20 volts, group 2 is 4.20 volts. group 3 is 4.19, 4 is etc. Then we can compare more easily.

Re: Cost/Benefit Questions for first ebike build (BBX's)

I should add that I use a 48v 30A controller with geared hub motor, Bafang BPM2 24mph max, and it is plenty powerful for me (145lbs, always pedal) on hills on my route that are several miles long (10%) or on my driveway, which has a short stretch of 20% steepness. Max power draw of 1200w, but I usua...

Re: Cost/Benefit Questions for first ebike build (BBX's)

Can you say how steep/long the hills are? A mid-drive is going to require a lot more chain maintenance and probably not be as reliable as a direct drive hub motor for commuting.

you can get adapters at ebikes.ca

They have adapters for their Cycle Satiator charger, not sure if available separately.
