Re: 12 x 4110 MOSFET Extreme Modder Controller LYEN Edition

Well guys I did the update (or regression, whatever you choose to call it) BUT as I feared it was not the Issue, HOWEVER thankfully Lyen kindly emailed me with Instructions despite him being out of country and travelling with bad internet... apparently it's the round plug on the CA that is the com p...

Re: 12 x 4110 MOSFET Extreme Modder Controller LYEN Edition

Then I'm confused as to what could have happened to the cable? for the controller I removed the battery connection and it worked but for the CA it says it needs the battery powered to work and does not have enough power from the cable alone, so it was connected to power when the fault occurred, BUT ...

Re: 12 x 4110 MOSFET Extreme Modder Controller LYEN Edition

Does anyone possibly know why I'm having this problem?? I plugged my working lyen USB >TTL cable into my CA V3 to update the firmware from p6 (before I'd tweaked all my controller settings tho): It seemed to connect fine but didn't work (I tried the button while it was connected up) now for some rea...

Re: controller hookup - ignition wire

IRRC the drain is 50ma - If you use you're bike everyday it's a real no brainer. I use a keyswitch on my bike.... no need for a precharge resistor on it because the caps are already charged. fine, I understand that and me too (currently, excuse the pun) but what about when you need 2 unplug and upd...

Re: controller hookup - ignition wire

On LiFePO4, near top of charge the voltage drop as it drains will appear quick...then it has a nearly flat voltage level thru most of the rest of it's draining, then suddenly drops off again once it's near-dead. What you're seeing sounds perfectly normal for that kind of pack, under a small load, b...

Re: Leaf / leafmotor / leafbike high efficiency 1500w motor

My 12FET 4110 controller at 70A was ready to blow while running 40-70 amps continuous. My 12FET 3077 controller at 80A remained fairly warm doing the same thing, but the battery cables were always very hot. The controller died when i botched upgrading it, so i got an 18FET 4110 and everything has b...

Re: controller hookup - ignition wire

Ok it's getting a lil weird with this battery drain condition :? it simulates a parasitic drain rapidly - from 90v HOC (that is the 24s lifepo4 charger the factory sent with?) that drops rapidly to about 86v (which I blv is the BMS in control, shedding voltage?) then a faster drain, that is steady t...

Re: Leaf / leafmotor / leafbike high efficiency 1500w motor

That's strange that you can't get it to wheelie. My 4T in a 26" wheelied as soon as i cranked it up to 80A, and i had to tune the phase to battery ratio down to about 2.25:1 to prevent that from happening. At 72v x 80A, this motor is very dangerous in terms of wheelies on my mtb.. and i'm probably ...

Re: Leaf / leafmotor / leafbike high efficiency 1500w motor

Thanks for doing this Luke. I keep saying it, but it's worth saying again. These motor's might not have the torque of a 40, 45, or 50mm wide magnet motor, but they are so much lighter and more efficient than most that they make up for it. With adequate cooling, I think these Leaf motor's will do gr...

Re: controller hookup - ignition wire

So is there any decent priced precharge resistors built into a Key switch (led resistor optional but would be nice,) would e.g something like this work, http://www.adafruit.com/products/482?gclid=CjwKEAiA3_axBRD5qKDc__XdqQ0SJAC6lecALnaKq3NtTX8wyCOI6lNO60le1fungnbwL2Ez5iEmRxoCEPTw_wcB and if dso, how...

Re: controller hookup - ignition wire

you can leave the large red wire connected all the time if you put a switch on the small red wire that carries the circuit current. the voltage does not leak out of the large red wires because they are turned off by the mosfets for the phases. if there is no voltage flowing in the controller circui...

Re: controller hookup - ignition wire

Yeah; pair it with the positive wire. You will always get a spark. That's what precharge resistors are for. At 36v, not a huge deal. At 72v and above.. free arc welder!! Lmfao, that JUST happened to me on my first install of a new 72v 30ah lifepo4 prismatic battery ;) at 1st touch of positive, the ...

Re: Leaf / leafmotor / leafbike high efficiency 1500w motor

Did ZombieSS chime in? because he showed that PWM = more controller heat = less efficiency. Maybe it's just a few percent? but why lose a few percent of efficiency if you can avoid it, eh? Of course a lower turn count can handle more battery/phase amps. It needs them to produce the right amount of ...

Re: Leaf / leafmotor / leafbike high efficiency 1500w motor

You mention a 3T motor using 72V, but you have not mentioned the top speed you hope to achieve, and also the diameter of rear wheel you will be using. This information would be helpful to find the answer you want. It's for a 26" Mtb wheel on front and matching 26" on a 2.5 bike rim rear, that I wan...

Re: Leaf / leafmotor / leafbike high efficiency 1500w motor

It might actually produce more torque because of the difference between torque per amps on your slower wind versus this extremely fast winding. If you're comparing it to a HS4080, that motor does 80kmh on 72v, whereas the 4T leaf should do 95kmh on 72v. That's more than a 10% difference in speed vs...

Re: Leaf / leafmotor / leafbike high efficiency 1500w motor

Is 16*4t the fastest wind they offer? does anyone know if they do a faster wind, 3t? Don't buy a 3t if it exists, unless you have a 16 or 20 inch wheel. It is just going to be way too fast of a winding. You'd need a 24fet to drive it to it's potential ( >100A ) and even 48v would be too high of a v...
