Re: 18650 spot welding -how to- ULTIMATE REPOSITORY

people are stupid. more is not better. its like gluing 2 bank cards togther and thinking you can pay twice as fast. Interesting comment! I've had reasonable success stacking/layering 0.15 nickel. I regularly do 4 layers x 7 series rows for 100-120A discharge packs and they hold up fine and do...

Re: Battery design advice required

just put the parralel strip OVER the existing series strips. dont make them as small as on the picture. just slap a long piece over it that goes over the side. that way you can solder your bms leads on the side of the battery and the top says flat so you can put a piece of plycarbonate on the top an...

Re: Chargery C10325 not doing CV phase?

is the bms "locked" to the vehicle?

aka: will the thing work with any battery/voltage source connected to it or is the battery vendor locked so it refuses to work when you mess with it? do you have pictures of the pack from the inside? have people already replaced the bms for example?

Re: Chargery C10325 not doing CV phase?

@floppy: Is the insulting tone really necessary? it seems so, you wont listen to what is said. as soon as you mention that you dont want a psu but you do want a charger that does not work as a charger but behaves like a "psu" then you need to shut up and just listen because you know jack ...

just to be clear: dont do anything with them. pull them out of the box and measure. if you already charged them then make very sure you charged them all to the same level. the voltage should not differ more then 0.05v between cells when measuring. ps: the SM8124 does not have a low batt warning. so ...

Re: First Battery Build 21700 Molicel P42A

Hi Flippy, Sounds good. What do you recommend as an accurate internal resistance meter and how would you use the resistance data to organise your packs? just get a SM8124 and get a spare, switching the polarity instantly kills it. its accurate enough for this use case. and its simple: start measuri...

Re: Chargery C10325 not doing CV phase?

They do CV in the sense of constant voltage yes, but they dont lower amps like "Li-ion charging CV" does to reduce wear on the cells. if you dont understand how battery charging works: JUST SAY SO. you set the voltage on the charger then the voltage does not go higher then that.same goes ...

Re: Chargery C10325 not doing CV phase?

The meanwells DO the CV part. They dont stop. That is the whole point. Yoy need a dumb charger like this. Not anything else. You are overcomplicating what CV actually is and how supplies like meanwell behaves. And i doubt you will find a charger rhat delivers more power in a smaller or lighter form ...

Re: Chargery C10325 not doing CV phase?

if you want to raw-dog the battery without bullshit elecronics messing stuff up you can just buy 2 meanwell HRP-600-48 and set them in series. or ease down the charge power with a set of HRP-300-48. and save a buck in the meantime. these also have a fan on the back so you can stack them easely. ps: ...

Re: First Battery Build 21700 Molicel P42A

just doing a internal resistance test with a accurate meter straight from the box is faster and yields the same/better result as manually measuring capacity. a deviation in IR tells you more then capacity when measuring fresh from the box. then you can be done in 24 minutes instead of 24 days.

Re: 18650 spot welding -how to- ULTIMATE REPOSITORY

Hi all, I was wondering if there's any reason I should not weld a 2P battery pack in an "X" configuration, to avoid layering nickel strips and to reduce the amount of welds. I made a separate post here about it with more detail, but it has only gotten one response so I hoped I might get a...

what currents are you implying? are they pulses or sustained loads?

ps: a shukko barely manages .2. getting a solid .3 weld is futile to even try. you might get a dozen welds before the unit pops.

what is there not to understand? when the voltage drops under a certain limit the controller shuts down. its that simple.

that does not work. if the controller is set to cut off at 40V then a 36V battery is not going to do you mutch good as its will conk out as soon as you accelerate.

Re: How does low batter voltage cutoff work? 48v to ??-cutoff

you dont get more range with your current line of thinking. its VERY simple if you want to go further: either consume less power by driving slower or make the battery bigger. you cant increase range by changing a setting to make the battery appear bigger. your car wont drive further if you glue the ...

no, there is no real reason to pick lifepo4 over "regular" lipo. its more expensive, larger, weighs more, and the lifespan argument is bascially just an academic exercise in debating wich sports team is better these days. also: shipping companies dont give a shit about the chemistry. its t...

you need to keep that pack charged up to full and keep it there. so keep a dumb charger on the battery to keep it charged during welds. still, i dont see these cells lasting very long. it would be better to make it a 3S4P at the very minimum if you want to use this setup a lot.

Re: 'on board' 1.5kW charger. Which alibaba supplier?

but none of that has to do with the difference between a charger and a PSU, either one can implement that feature. a charger/power supply without a CC element will simply trigger an overload and shut down, so i dont see how you can call it a charger at that point. but a charger can also work as a p...

Thank you for clarifying, that is very clear! I appreciate it. But I can't find any Meanwell CC/CV power supply that supports output voltages higher than 54V without modification/stringing multiple together. yes, for higher voltages you need to divide the voltage by 2 and pick a "charger"...

Re: 'on board' 1.5kW charger. Which alibaba supplier?

i would love to see the insides of that QS charger. ps: for clarity: the thing that separates a charger from a power supply is current control. a power supply/PSU like you see in your computer only has constant voltage (so that is CV for short) so the voltage remains at 12V. a "charger" ha...
