VESC-controller: Axiom hardware released!

After many many months of hard work, technical discussions, documentation and tests we have come to the point we think we have the best platform for high power motor control. Before hardware news, the BIGGEST news about this project is the formal presentation of the team that made it possible. Forum...

Re: VESC-controller: Firmware released!

Thanks! Looks very good, will try it out today. :bigthumb: Big thanks to tecnologic: https://github.com/vedderb/bldc/pull/82 With this signal injection we can now make the microcontroller think it is running a PM motor. Will lay the groundwork for algorithm development and deeper automated testing....

Re: VESC-controller: Firmware released!

For the moment, my question remains unanswered. Do you guys think that your modified VESC could be the best base for controlling the high voltage stages or am I better off with my Arduino approach. I really liked the many options & parameters the VESC software offers out of the box... STM32F40x are...

Re: VESC-controller: Firmware released!

I think I burned again AMC1311BDWV 3units ... I have extra so I will replaced today and we see if it's start working ... I think it's amc1311 is burned when I try to do FOC settings on my IPM ... is possible ??? Could you email so we can set up an online debugging session? Does that computer have i...

Re: VESC-controller: Firmware released!

Have a look here :) http://cpp.sh/33vcz In case of questions just ask. Maybe in a seperate Thread? Thanks! Looks very good, will try it out today. My goal: drive a 3 phase motor with PWM / FOC, but I require only a few amps - but in exchange with very high frequency (20kHz - 4 MHz, the higher the b...

Re: VESC-controller: Firmware released!

Today Benjamin published a major firmware and GUI update, over 11k new lines of code providing support to UAVCAN CANbus protocol, commonly found in drones and aero stuff. It also improves the networking between controllers, now you can broadcast a firmware upgrade, and broadcast a motor parameter de...

Re: VESC-controller: Firmware released!

It was likely an IPM motor, but we can't tell for sure until we see that motor rotor. If its an SPM the current will work out of the box. If its an induction motor (unlikely) we are not quite ready to provide ACIM FOC support, it has to come after IPM support, because of the likeliness of these cont...

Re: VESC-controller: Firmware released!

I can't see the magnets in that rotor, so I have no clue if they are inside or in the surface :/ Taking the other end off the motor is tricky, as there is a great big magnet holding it in place! Any tips? Perhaps measuring phase inductance with an LCR meter at different rotor angles. An IPM has the...

Re: VESC-controller: Firmware released!

That adjustable resolver angle shouldn't be needed. The board should be able to find the exact resolver angle from a GUI menu using a sensorless start. Having said that, its nice to have the option to adjust that, resolver offset is usually difficult to tune. I can't see the magnets in that rotor, s...

Re: VESC-controller: Firmware released!

What does the rotor look like though? If it's an IPM motor with reluctance torque, controlling it will be different to a conventional motor with surface mounted magnets. Yeah, we need to know that. I'm confident I can provide support for IPM in a reasonable timeframe. Not sure how to perform parame...

Re: VESC-controller: Firmware released!

Resolver interface is programmable (with resistors) to 10, 12, 15 and 20kHz. Excitation amplitude must be configured (also with resistors) such that the IC receives 3.15Vpp +-27%. Should work! It is almost like you have thought of everything  Ha, I'm sure there is room for improvement after mo...

Re: VESC-controller: Firmware released!

Had a bit more of a probe after picking my motor up :bigthumb: The resolver output from the Mitsubishi board to the motor is 5V and at 10kHz. What is achievable with the controller board? Re: VESC-controller

About that 5v difference, I wouldn't worry too much, if your fullscale is 600V, you have <1% error, and these isolated amplifiers have a rather poor offset spec. One thing you can try is using AMC1311, they work better for voltage sensing, you need to change the resistor divider because they have g...

What is the definition of TOP and BOTTOM?

I think the emitters of OPTO 2,4,6 are connected to the low DC......
If 2, 4 and 6 are connected to HVDC(-) then they are the driving the "BOTTOM" IGBT's

Sounds good,
PWM Cathode OPTO 1
PWM Cathode OPTO 2
Do you you know which one commands the TOP IGBT and which one commands the BOTTOM IGBT?

Re: VESC-controller: Firmware released!

Secondly, and more of an error I believe is that 5 of the 6 devices have a resistor across the anode and cathode, but the 6th.....a capacitor. Re: VESC-controller: Firmware released!

Got to love Google...... 34JTcircuit.jpg Yes, thats the reference schematic. You need x6 pwm, gnd, 5v, and the gate driver supply, you need to check if it shares the same gnd of the logic and its voltage, I've seen 12v, 15v and 24v. Those faults and UnderVoltageLockOut could be joined together in t...

Re: VESC-controller: Firmware released!

Did you decouple the ADC ISR from the PWM freq so PWM can be set to multiples of the ADC ISR? Here you go: https://github.com/paltatech/bldc/commit/9652231edb749e325adce46d213884491c348cca In your hw_xxx.h you can #define FOC_CONTROL_LOOP_FREQ_DIVIDER 3 That will make FOC loop run 1/3 of the PWM fr...

Re: VESC-controller: Firmware released!

I'm glad you know your gear. First thing to do is identify in the wiring PWM_A_TOP, PWM_A_BOTTOM, PWM_B_TOP, PWM_B_BOTTOM, PWM_C_TOP, PWM_C_BOTTOM Its normal that those automotive drives only use 2 current sensors, in theory it is sufficient but for high performance you really want 3. I would instal...

Re: VESC-controller: Firmware released!

Not so easy in Argentina. There are like 15 EV's in the country, and besides the shipping costs importing any automotive part is illegal, importing any used machinery is illegal, and importing any electrical machinery for >50V is illegal, so you need to be creative. How on earth have you done what ...

I wouldn't bother trying to build in windows. Re: Cheap VESC (VESC 4.12 redesign)

I'll move on to attempting to spin a motor after I address my voltage/current sense signals mix up. I would cut the traces. Its easy to change the firmware for FOC, but for flux linkage parameter detection you also need to tweak the code to fix bldc mode and that might take some time. I had pwm top...

As soon as I get my hands on an IPM motor I will implement that control mode, its called Max Torque Per Amp. Re: VESC-controller: Firmware released!

Given that there are an abundance of used commercial motor controllers on the market is it possible that your board can interface with the power electronics? Yes, you need to connect it to the DC link capacitor to know the input voltage, connect it to the motor phases to get phase voltages, and con...
