Oceanside/San diego CA ebikes

today, I counted 7 ebikes on the Oceanside bike route. two females. We all ended up talking at one point. 2 folders, one bent, one with trailer, the rest just uprights. all hub motors except me with a cyclone. almost all Lith packs of some variety. 4 of us totally legal, the others capable of over 2...

Re: CA Legal Question

.... It's not legal to ride on the city sidewalks in California, . Curious where that info came from. My last check into this was that California says that it is illegal to ride on sidewalks "unless riden in a safe and curteous manner". However cities have the right to outlaw any bikes at any place...

Cyclone 500w idler wheel

It is getting rather old keeping the cyclone nylon idler sleeve bushing wheel operating correctly. the one with the metal sleeve that goes over the mounting bolt. cleening, lubing, changing every 1000 miles. this is on a feet forward bike and a below the chainline stock 500w cyclone. other than this...

Re: CA Legal Question

Had lunch in San Diego suburbs today, happen to be where quite a few police types were eating. After we were all getting up to leave, I ask them about the ebike on paths issues. They responded that it was compicated due to conflicting laws about the ebike definition versus gas bikes, and who had wha...

Try keeping the pack close to 70F until they can be replaced.

this will keep available peak current, total watt hours and voltage at their best temperature wise.

Re: Bikes Get 3 Feet Clearance - on paper, anyway

yep, I would like to see a folding yardstick sold, then would stick a few of the corners of my bike rack to keep cars at bay.
fold it up when not needed in tight quarters around the house, unfold for being on the road.

Re: We need to make a million ebikes here in the USA !!!!

If a large appropriate city, such as San Diego or Raleigh NC, passed laws and then had ebikes and public transport as protected forms of transportation, then household income needs would drop by about 1ok per year before taxes, or the cost of using/having one car. this would decrase the cost of livi...

Re: Questioning owning a car any longer

Veloman, You are where you need to be. You Own a car but dont use it unless there is a big reason to. turn off the insurance, and dont use it. if you need to use it, call your insurance company and turn it back on. you are where you need to be. some call it 'car lite', for your 'car very lite'. Re: Questioning owning a car any longer

I would go the middle ground; dont renew insurance or plates, dont fix expensive stuff, quit using that car at all, see how long you can go without it. If you like the new "no car life", you are 2/3 done---If you change your mind and decide you need a car, just get plates and insurance and fix anthi...

I would ask what steps you would take if: you had a chance that on a day with big headwinds, or you could not pedal much, or were in a big hurry, or 2 of these, then what would you change if you could not make it? does it cost less than $250? do you have the money? make your battery easily removeabl...

Wondering what folks are using for chain lube, especially the motorized chain drive folks, since we are so hard on chains. Re: How to steal a bike, maybe an e-bike, in the city.

Bike tourists have long used the tactics to leave their bike in its highest gear and a block wedged in the brake handle to lock the brakes. some would release the quick release on their front wheel. This would buy about 10 seconds while a thief was fumbling with mutliple problems. To this I add disc...
