Re: "SpinPulse" concept: Re-thinking the bottom bracket

The whole thing would need to be able to spin freely in the frame. Note the "bottom bracket bearings" added, in blue

Next in maroon, the "Power Input Shaft".

Hopefully not too custom, depending on material strength and inside/outside diameters available, this can be built up from thick walled tubing and an off-the-shelf gear, interfaced together...

Maybe made of tubing plus gear, both off the shelf?

Re: "SpinPulse" concept: Re-thinking the bottom bracket

The e-drive piece is embedded in the bike frame. To transfer power out to the chain ring will require a collection of off-the-shelf and custom parts. First, two needle roller bearings are added (in blue), one inside the frame and one outside...

Re: "SpinPulse" concept: Re-thinking the bottom bracket

OK, I'm new at posting stuff so the pic did not end up where I'd hoped... Some custom components will likely be required - but I hope to minimize them. All suggestions welcome! Let's start with the crank. I should be able to use an off-the-shelf crank. The drawing below shows a 22mm diameter spindle...

"SpinPulse" concept: Re-thinking the bottom bracket

Overview.jpg Hello ES! Probably not a new idea, but here goes... The concept is to take the down tube, bottom bracket, etc. and re-think it as a power module, merging human and electric power sources. Another variation on StokeMonkey, Cyclone, and j3tch1u's Mag Max, influenced heavily by the RC stu...

Re: Planning an RC motored Folding Bike

FWIW, I've been riding a Dahon Jetstream P8 (the bike MitchJi posted) for about 3 years now and it is my primary bike for commuting and recreation (no assist, just legs). In July I bought a second Jetstream P8 so I can take the first off the road for major maintenance, modifications (want to swap de...

Re: E-Recumbent passes roadie group at 30+

I ride a HP Velotechnik Grasshopper (full suspension, 20' front and rear) recumbent with under seat steering. Sweeeet ride. I'm not as nimble on it as I am on my "normal" bike (a FS folder from Dahon) so I tend to save it for bike paths only.

Re: I'm getting too SURLY, Need my E-Bike Grin! TRAFFIC SU

I'm not riding electric - yet - so I don't have acceleration as a defense... 1) I use a little orange flag on a 2.5' pole, hold it against my left hand grip so it sticks out into traffic. Anecdotally, I'd say 90% of cars give me much more room when passing than the 2 extra feet I'm claiming. I get h...

Critical Mass is really fun! I've participated in two Critical Mass rides (Boston, June and July 2010). I'd have gone to August's CM ride too but I'm down in Louisiana cleaning up after BP... Critical Mass can be very polarizing, pissing people (and cops) off royally: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=...

Re: Second accident - General question

@fifthmass Bill, I bike in Boston, not an e-biker (yet - pedal power only). I'd love to know the intersection this happened at. All, I have a very simple rig that helps improve my visibility (or, reduce my invisibility). It's an obnoxious yellow flag that sticks 2' straight to the left of my handle ...

Re: Scooterputer DIY Arduino Based Cycle Analyst

The Pixel Qi is being sold by the DIY site Maker Shed. They sold out of their first batch the first day. It would be great to have this thing (or a smaller version of the same display tech) as a display and an open, modular, extensible platform (e.g. Arduino plus shield extensions) for users to add ...

Re: New motor controller brainstorm

Newbie question time. Focusing on the modular approach: Could we not simply take an existing general purpose controller board (like an Arduino, http://www.arduino.cc/) and with the right software, use that as the brains? Then the investment is in the power electronics. I'm way out of my league talki...

Re: What is your dream ebike?

Start with a leaning "tadpole" trike like the Tripendo (http://www.tripendo.com) or the FN-Trike (http://fn-trike.de/Reinhold/HTM/seite1.html). Extend the rear swing arm. Think Xtracycle (http://www.xtracycle.com). Over the swing arm would be a heavy duty rack which can double as a passenger seat or...

NuVinci hub

I've got the NuV mounted in 20" wheels on a Dahon "Helios" 2005 folding bike. It's a human power only rig, but I hope to join the EV ranks, soon. Took it for 12+ mile ride yesterday and am about to do 12 to 15 more... It works great and it's quite a feeling to always have the perfect ratio at my dis...

I bought one of these things and installed it today. It's pretty nice, powerful, smooth... I only had time for a short test ride so I'll post more info once I've taken the thing > a mile. Also I'm having touble figuring out how to post pics, so bear with me for that.
