Re: The F3: Close call, near wreck, preventable damage

Sorry to be a tease above. When I finished up working on the bike last night (and shoveling snow), I wanted to share my updated but I soon ran out of energy. So, one word and one pic! I'll try to get some new pic's up soon, but here's the latest with the bike. 1. Installed Cannondale Lefty as front ...

Re: The F3: Close call, near wreck, preventable damage

Since I wanted to participate in a social ride Tuesday night, I did a ton of work Monday from about 6pm to midnight to get the bike back on the road. Replaced the NuVinci freewheel mechanism (yes I happened to have a spare) as the grease seal was shot. Serviced the electric drive chainring, which lo...

Re: The F3: Close call, near wreck, preventable damage

Thanks for the kind words of concern guys. No more cable lock for me, I'll ride home without a seat if I have to! Yikes! You in town today? Give me a call if you want to do some maintenance over here! I wish... This is a "Rhode Island" weekend for me. I'll alternate between the A Line And the pedal ...

Re: The F3: Close call, near wreck, preventable damage

Totally my fault - I nearly wrecked last Thursday night. Ended up having pedal only power to get the bike home about 10 miles. This, my mainstay ride, is now off the road until I have time to inspect and overhaul the entire drive system. Thursday night I left work and went south (home is north) to a...

Re: MattyCiii's third build

I was contemplating making my own fenders for 16" Pirelli's, but then I saw 2 steel 3-1/4" x 26" wide fenders for $40, and realized DYI fenders is huge waste of time. One evening spent for mounting and painting, and voila: Thanks for the tip! If my mold fails I'll pick up a pair of these myself jus...

Re: MattyCiii's third build

Thanks for documenting how this is done. What a great technique for garage builders... It's been a lot of work but so far no problems. Tonight's step is the key. The basement is cool, like 63*f, and the epoxy won't cure below 60*f, so I'm on the edge. The gel coat took 3 hours to setup enough to pu...

Re: MattyCiii's third build

Took the day off to do some repairs on my truck. Had some extra time, so I decided to move the fender project forward. 1. I've been putting layers of mold release wax on the plug for the last several evenings - I probably have 6 full coats of wax on the plug. 2. Using cardboard, foil tape, modeling ...

Re: MattyCiii's third build

That plug is looking sick! I won't be around much the next few weeks, lots of traveling to do. Maybe the 28th and 29th, let me know if you'll be around then. -steve Excellent, I'll try to keep that weekend open (50/50 chance as you know). In the mean time I hope turning the plug into a mold is a on...

Re: MattyCiii's third build

Quick update on the fiberglass fender project: I gave up on using plaster after awhile, and went with Bondo. The mold plug started to take a nice shape: https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-zfSYnMlryaY/UpY7y6qjy9I/AAAAAAAADbo/y8iUWXcFonk/s720/DSCF4448.JPG Here's the plug as it intersects the sculpting...

Re: 20" Folding bike disadvantages/advantages

I used a Dahon JetStream as the basis for my first e-bike: http://endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=39928&start=100#p735620 I started riding folders because it's the loophole for the commuter train around here - no bikes allowed, except folding bikes. I added the electric drive after I g...

Re: Survey - Needs of E-Bike users

I put a lot of thought into, and wrote up some objective criteria for, my next bike - here: http://endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=49927 I've built two very different bikes, and ride one or the other every day, so I'm well in touch with my own needs from both a builder and a rider stan...

Re: JST balance taps suck. What should I replace them with?

I use Molex Mini Fit Jr. They work pretty well for me with #18 - 22 wire. Thanks for that - I have 12 sets on the way from Mouser to upgrade from JST i did a lot of research on this when i was building up my charger. The only connectors that have a long service life are the kind that hook together ...

JST balance taps suck. What should I replace them with?

The subject says it all. I've replaced some JST connectors as they fail with... new JSTs. Now they're failing again. They suck. What's a good alternative? (I can easily use Andersons, but they are pretty bulky)

I was riding home last night on my folding bike and was chased down by Gestalt . We;ve met before so he knows me, and has seen the bike on the forums, but has never seen the bike live. It was pretty cool because I had a last minute change of plans - so the meetup was total serendipity. I had a few b...

Re: Torque Raptor in Texas

Why would you want to use the schlumpf drive over a regular crank set? You can pedal at 45mph with perfect cadence. You can actually get a workout on a 20mph+ e-bike +1 I love being able to pedal with some meaningful force at high speed. First, it's the best "fake pedaling" ever to keep the po-po o...

I C U: ES Spotting! Now featuring Chalo!

So last night I was on a small social ride, riding my Norco A-Line (all the other riders were on pedal bikes. When I go to social rides on an electric bike around here, nobody is put off by my lifestyle choice). The ride included a bunch of musicians with instruments, and we were visiting several of...
