Re: Battery Bro is Grade-A Legit

I placed an order with them recently and had no problem. The batteries arrived earlier than expected and all the test indicated they were grade A batteries

Re: Spot welding fuses to individual 18650 cells?

I am intrigued by the idea of individual fuses so I am going to run some experiments. Here is a small prototype I built last night. I am going to spot weld the individual fuses the this weekend. I used a Dremel to cut a small groove in the copper bus bar so that the individual fuse wires would fit s...

Re: Spot Welding Copper Strips to 18650 Battery Cells

Here is a recent high-amp cordless tool battery pack. The busses are verified to be copper (with a nickel-plate for corrosion and to help make spot-welding easier). Notice how much longer the slot is, compared to the more common pure nickel strips in the past... https://www.electricbike.com/wp-cont...

Re: Yet another 18650 battery build.

If this was easy, they'd have hired someone else to do it! The trouble with trying to catch a greased pig is, that the pig likes it. The trouble with endless sphere types, is that the problems are what we live for! Agreed. Imagine trying to do this 25 years ago without the help of the internet. :-)

Re: Yet another 18650 battery build.

pro tip: overspec your bms by at least half. if you need 50A you need to buy a 100A bms. Great thread! I am learning lots of new things. Regarding the BMS tip above, my go kart will pull 50-60 amps continuous with a max of 200 amps (only for a few seconds). Any recommendations on where I can get a ...

Re: Yet another 18650 battery build.

....... if you use new/good cells there is zero reason to use wire fusing but plenty of reasons to not use it. Very compelling points. I appreciate this information. I will be using brand new cells from a reputable dealer so your logic applies to my situation. Have you ever had a cell that was conn...

Re: Yet another 18650 battery build.

This is all great information I’m sorry to take up so much time on someone else’s thread. However it does emphasize an important point. The individually fused cells that you see on llile’s pack design are appealing since the chances of thermal runaway would be reduced by the fuses. However, I have t...

Re: Yet another 18650 battery build.

Thanks. This is very good information. At a risk of igniting a separate debate on a separate topic is the following summary of your statement correct? If you are using brand new cells from a reputable manufacturer there is no need to individually fuse each cell. In such cases you can simply use a sp...

Re: Yet another 18650 battery build.

I am guessing that this would be the ideal set up for individually fused cells. Any idea were I can find such bus bars? :?: :?: buy and strip a tesla. i would not recommend this solution for high current packs. it increases the IR way too much and is not consistent enough when done manually. Thanks...

So much progress, must catch this thread up with picvs soon. Garolittle, you are right, spot welding is much better. I'm soldering cuz no spot welder. I also intend that this isn't my first build - get my chops on cheap batteries then upgrade with newer better faster spot-weldier ones. That i...

Re: Spot welding fuses to individual 18650 cells?

So I just had an idea that I wanted to share with the forum. Rather than having to 2 separate 36V battery packs connected in series (one on each side of the go cart seat), why not have 3 separate 24V battery packs as depicted in the drawing. Please forgive my drawing abilities. The 24V battery packs...
