I think I would sooner get one of these before I try the tedious task of installing my own studs: https://www.schwalbetires.com/bike_tires/studded

Re: bluetooth BMS?

Basically the whole time, my meter showed that group 11's voltage was 4.165. I turned off the balancing right after that screenshot, since it was balancing 11 sometimes when it should have been balancing everything but 11, and the voltage reading went right back to 4.165.

Excellent. Let us know what your range turns out to be eventually :) I consider my 14s6p MJ1 packs to be 40 miles at 15-20mph, 20 miles at 30-35mph, and a bit more when used on the recumbent.

That's a nice giant pack! Are you relying on only two bus bars to handle all of the current for some of the serial connections?

Re: bluetooth BMS?

Nice mods. I've been chasing a similar problem, just with group 11 on my wife's BMS. During balancing I caught a screenshot of group 11 reading 17mV higher than it actually was, confirmed with my meter connected to group 11 at the same time. I don't think the problem ever happens when the BMS is not...

Re: Want help to review my ebike part choices

I'm sure you could do 0.15x8mm nickel strip, since that's what I used on my 18650's. Should be able to carry a little more current, if you have access to 8mm as easily as you would have gotten the 6mm.

Feel free to take a look at the parts list in my signature link if you'd like.

Re: Best rear tire for 26" DD hub motor

The best one I've found is the Schwalbe Marathon Plus HS 468 SmartGuard MTB Bicycle Tire. I put about 2200 miles on my last set on a DD running 3600W with ZERO flats. They're expensive ($45-$50 a tire), but worth it when you're not having to take off your rear wheel all the time. You can get it in ...

Re: StefEbike for my wonderful disabled wife

My motor did have some hall sensor/position glitches at the end of that ride, and it did have a small puddle underneath it on the car ride home. I've been sick this whole week, so between work and kids I've just been going to bed early every day. Right when they got home I strapped a magnetic 200w o...

Re: StefEbike for my wonderful disabled wife

So my journey on Sunday turned out to be the most adventurous bike trip I've ever had, that's for sure! The Des Plains River was 3 feet over normal levels, which would have been perfect until it rained all day Saturday. This brought the levels up to 5.25 feet over normal! Made it through with determ...

So both fenders connect right to the axle, eh? I wonder if I can make my front fenders do that, since forks don't like to include eyelets for them anymore.

Hand holding indeed... The smart BMS has shunt resistors built in, and the software can display current flow both in and out of the battery.

Re: DIY battery BMS issues

Put the negative meter probe on the black balance wire instead of the negative main power connection. Then put the positive meter probe on the first white wire, and work your way up one at a time looking at the voltages. Do you have a bluetooth or PC interface for that smart BMS? The spacers and all...

Re: DIY battery BMS issues

Unplug the connector and using a multimeter put neg probe on black wire of plug and use the pos probe on each of the white leads. as you move across the white pins towards the red lead the volts should add 4.2v to the total on the meter (total 36v. black and red) If it doesn't then you have a wirin...

Re: Using the Wangdd22 1500W 30A DC Boost Converter on an ebike

Thanks! I put statorade in all three of my hub motors, since they don't have an internal thermocouple. I did 10mL in both of my 35mm motors, and 8mL in the 25mm StefEbike motor. It's a bit higher than recommended, but I did look at the graphs, and wanted the insurance at higher speeds. They felt lik...

Re: StefEbike for my wonderful disabled wife

That possibility of a weak cell group is what I'm re-testing now, by leaving the BMS disconnected for several days. Last time I left it for 25 hours before I needed the bike for a group ride. So far, all the voltages are staying right in line. :thumb:

The JBD models from AliExpress like I pictured above only have a UART interface. The PC software does have more parameters available, such as temperature limits. I don't have any experience with the ebay model you linked, but I have the same assumption that the RS485 is an alternative to UART like y...
