Sorry to hear about that man! I wish you luck in finding out who did it, and getting a little justice.

Lucky at least the bike wasn't taken, but that whole situation sucks.

Stay safe!

Re: 12 kw rc motor

Eh, i'm not too worried. If I blow them up, I blow em up.
If nothing else, by the time I get everything together and blow the controllers up, there will be better options I can buy available, because right now as far as I know there isn't.

Do you know anything about the motor availability though?

Re: 12 kw rc motor

I've PM'd Marko a few times trying to get in line to buy one, since I am starting up on my ninja 250 conversion project again. I am building two 36 fet infinion controllers to power the colossus I hope to buy. Still not received any reply from him. If anyone else has info on how to get one of these,...

Re: 12 kw rc motor

Oh man, looking nice Splinter! I've tried to catch up on what Arlo and you have been up to lately, and it's looking good! I ordered a timing board from Burtie yesterday for use with my future motorcycle build, because that seems so necessary with this motor. Eh, I really need to get the fet cooling ...

Re: An update on what I know from my end

Oh man, I have been busy with training for a promotion at work, and haven't been on the sphere at all (even to lurk) for a couple weeks... I just decided to take a look last night, and ran across all this. I spent about 3 hours reading and still didn't get through everything. This is an amazing turn...

I am also interested in an update. I prolly should get back to work on my 36 fet controllers though, so they are ready by the time this thing is available =p

Re: Got a free AC motor, it is strong enough for EV conversi

That motor is just not at all wound ideally for a car... At 230v its only spinning 1700 rpm... That's an issue. If you over volted it, and geared it down, that would work fine. But over volting something that's already at that high of a voltage is kinda hard.

Re: Doc EXTREME 36 FETS controller

Hrmm, I was using 1/16th copper plate to solder my banks of 6 fets to. That works out to like 62 mils or something (not used to the term). I hope that it won't be too much an issue with thickness? I was already planning on lapping the copper bars after having everything soldered to make sure they ma...

Re: Doc EXTREME 36 FETS controller

Karma, That pump is the same one I have in my PC, because I didn't feel like putting out for a real watercooling setup. It really doesn't seem high end at all, and there are much better options available i'm sure. It is meant for cooling a single processor. Thats it. It has low waterflow, and the ra...

Re: Doc EXTREME 36 FETS controller

Okay, it slowed down at work so I had time to look at the spreadsheet again. The high side calc is: =($C2^2*$D2*$A2) + IF($A2 = 100%,+(1/2*$B2*$C2*((1/1000000) + (1/1000000))*(1000)),+(1/2*$B2*$C2*((1/1000000) + (1/1000000))*10000)) What i'm doing here is: ($C2^2*$D2*$A2) calculate phase resistance ...

Zap, I had Rhitee05 help me with the calculations last year. You can see the discussion here: http://endless-sphere.com/forums/viewto ... 5&start=30

I honestly don't fully understand all the mechanics of what is going on, and would really like to learn more.

Re: Doc EXTREME 36 FETS controller

Oh gosh, I can't believe I forgot about having two different heatsinks for each controller. That means at the current crappy flow rate, you need to cut in half the c/w rise for the calculations. That means that 0.0794C/W + 0.135C/W = 0.2144C/W 311w * 0.2144C/W = 66.6 C junction rise over ambient at ...

Re: Anyone spoken to HK about gettting bulk bare cells?

If bulk comes out quite a bit cheaper than assembled, i'd be down. I am planning a 6.8kwh pack for my motorcycle. I was looking for nanotechs though rather than 20-30c cells.

Re: Doc EXTREME 36 FETS controller

Hrmm, so from your calculations Cam, we will need MUCH better heatsink to ambient numbers than Doc is seeing right now. This can be achieved by better water flow, and also more surface area for the water to contact the copper tubing. I am gonna use more runs of smaller tubing to achieve this. You ma...

Re: Doc EXTREME 36 FETS controller

Tostino, Does your spreadsheet calculate heat from an entire 36 fets controller? If so, assuming that i use 150A continuous battery current , that's 375A of phase amp according to the 2.5x factor of the current multiplication effect with the pwm. previoulsy discussed on past threads http://www.endl...

Re: Doc EXTREME 36 FETS controller

Doc, I made this spreadsheet with the proper calculations for controller heating... I am calculating that at 100v, 150 phase amps, 100% duty cycle, and using the max resistance from Camlight's calculations (at 175c junction temp), you will be seeing 99.73w of heat. Cam, your calculations are correct...
