Re: Cyclone Motor Mid-Drive Guide for IDIOTS Needed!

That resistor appears to be out of stock. edit: in stock in US only I ordered even though it was out of stock locally (Australia), they emailed me after I ordered, saying it was out of stock, then it arrived on my door step 1 week later. Excellent service. You really haven't left any instruction wh...

Here is a good demo of a belt's strength. Personally I wouldn't have my bare leg anywhere near this drive.

Re: Cyclone Motor Mid-Drive Guide for IDIOTS Needed!

Thanks boostjuice, great info and heaps of it. I will open my controller up and see if I can work out where the resistors are that you mentioned. Are 30milliohm 5W resistors easy to come by? I currently get a max amp reading of 53amps on my wattsup so I will be able to see any change if I do the mod...

Re: Cyclone Motor Mid-Drive Guide for IDIOTS Needed!

Boostjuice, I read your post about the Kelly controller, that Cyclone offered, limiting the RPM of the 1000w motor. I run one of these motors with the standard Cyclone controller in my cruiser and am really happy with it. I was considering ordering another 1000w motor and amping it up to get the 300...

Re: Turnigy HXT Powered Custom Cruiser Worklog

Aside from it probably being a bugger of a job to get the epoxy back off to redo Very unlikely to be a problem with the teeth, I have done over 1000km with mine. The drive load is shared by many teeth all the time. If there was a problem however or the teeth wear out, they can be machined off in 2 ...

Which hub motor in a 20" wheel

I'm looking at building a mountain bike using long travel downhill forks with 20" wheels front and rear, the hub motor will be in the rear wheel. I will be running a 48v 20Ah Headway and would like to get at least 30mph, and have reasonable hill climbing power and disc brake capability. I have ...

Re: Cyclone 1000w Cruiser

Ok my cruiser is pretty much finished. I have gone for a carbon fiber finish on the covers and a candy blue powder on the frame. The paint looks heaps better to the naked eye, the blue is over the top of a silver base and looks brilliant. Here are some photos. http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f331/...

Re: Cyclone 1000w Cruiser

I was at the powder coaters today and discovered that they had a new candy blue colour available. I like it better than the red that I was going to get. So here is the finished frame. http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f331/e21340i/evcruiserframe2.jpg http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f331/e21340i/ev...

Re: Cyclone 1000w Cruiser

Thanks for the positive feedback guys. fechter the mold release was an unlabled bottle given to me by Aussiejester. I believe it was the type used for fiberglass work. The weather is very mild here at the moment, so I have had no heat issues. I don't expect any even when it warms up, as there is a n...

Re: Cyclone 1000w Cruiser

I just got back from a 26km test ride. I am breaking the battery in at the moment, so not going too far, I used 9Ah.
Couldn't be happier, the bike is super quiet, has loads of pickup, and cruises nicely between 35 to 40kmh.
I am sold on LiFePo4 and belt drive.
Cheers,
Matt.

Re: Cyclone 1000w Cruiser

Here are some photos of the bike ready for test rides, when it stops raining. The frame needs to be stripped and powder coated, colour I am not sure, maybe red. The wood panels are going to be a black carbon fiber finish. http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f331/e21340i/evcruiser16.jpg http://i50.phot...

Re: Cyclone 1000w Cruiser

Thats right Matt, the diameter being right was my biggest concern. To my amazement, this pulley was spot on when I wrapped the belt around, so I didn't have to revisit the lathe. Matt the 9mm wide belt you suggested seems to work fine, however I think I will get the 15mm one when it is in stock. The...

Re: Cyclone 1000w Cruiser

Had some progress recently. I have taken it for two small test runs and I like it alot, especially the LiFePO4 battery. I have got a fair bit of belt slip on the rear smooth pulley. I am using a 9mm belt for testing as the 15mm is out of stock. The 15mm may just give it enough grip. The bike does wo...

Re: Cyclone 1000w Cruiser

Hi Gow,
I built the frame using some old bikes and some tube that I bent up.
I got the inspiration for the frame from here, http://www.firebikes.com
There are some build photos here, http://motorbicycling.com/f26/two-strok ... -2916.html
Glad you like it.
Cheers,
Matt.

Re: Cyclone 1000w Cruiser

Here are some photos of the rear pulley drive I fabricated using a standard 10" V belt pulley and a offset rear sprocket. The plan is to use a GT toothed belt with this flat pulley. Toothed pulleys this large are not available "of the shelf" and on the advice of recumpence (Matt) ther...
