Re: LiFePo4 charger + $98 generator = not good.

OK, I've given up and buying a new one.
I think the guys who offered help assumed my electronics skills were much higher than they are.
Cheers,
Matt.

Re: LiFePo4 charger + $98 generator = not good.

I started testing the voltage across the switching transistors, not really knowing what I was doing, then there was a loud pop.
The front face of the top switching transistor next to the small transformer blew off. :o :(

Re: LiFePo4 charger + $98 generator = not good.

Thanks Kim, I'll bring the tricopter up some time for sure. Thanks dnmun, this is the sort of questions I need to get to the bottom of this problem. I'm not sure which component the rectifier bridge is, so I don't know which caps to check. Here are some photos to help identify what's what. http://i5...

Re: LiFePo4 charger + $98 generator = not good.

Fuse is fine and it's got 250 volts at the place where the wires are soldered to the pcb.

LiFePo4 charger + $98 generator = not good.

I went to a farm near York WA this weekend for a dirt track motor bike race. There was the full spectrum of ICE bikes there from Harleys to Honda postie bikes. I took my Giant Reign along to represent the EV world. http://www.endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=34451&start=75 As there was...

Re: Basman style cruiser with Mac and A123 20ah

Any update on this build? Not much ATM, too many projects and busy life. I will start bending up the frame soon, the only thing I have done recently is to rebuild the forks, new seals and oil. http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f331/e21340i/basman16.jpg http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f331/e21340i...

Re: Belt driven off road bike (Giant Reign)

Thanks Chris and Danny, it does 52kmh and crawls up any hill just as I planned/hoped. I went for a late night blast last night and did a 20km trip basically flat out the whole way, no heat issues at all. Motor was obviously warm but I could hold my hand on the motor indefinitely, cool night 10deg C....

Re: Belt driven off road bike (Giant Reign)

Ok a year has passed since I last worked on this bike, I lost interest after burning a 24 Fet controller. So I dragged the bike off the back burner last week and fitted a new 24 Fet and did some bench testing and discovered that I must have had a false positive with the phase and hall wire combinati...

Re: MAC motor worries

Before you pull the halls look closely at all the solder joints on the hall board. I once had a motor where two of the joints on one hall were slightly bridged with solder.
I was able to scrape a gap with a small screwdriver and the problem was solved.

Re: MAC motor worries

This could be loose hall wires.
However it also sounds like a sheared key between the clutch and axle. I have had this happen a few times.
Just pull off the brake side cover and have a look.
Good luck.
Matt.

Re: Basman style cruiser with Mac and A123 20ah

Hay Jay, I'll let you know all the tube lengths, no probs. I have sussed out the room required for the pack, and the plan is to have the lower top tube set slightly lower than the tracing. I'm a big fan of the 20ah cells, they are completely unstressed at 40 to 50amps and I like not having many cell...
