Re: Vanishing Rubber Cement (Patch Kit)

The bulk cans seal better. I have had this 8 oz can for a few years and it is still good.

Re: USB to +/- wires

You just need to cut up an old (or new) USB cable: https://publiclab.org/notes/MadTinker/02-08-2018/usb-bare-wire-power-cable You could also buy a DC to DC buck converter to convert your battery voltage on the bike to 6V: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B077X8GBWQ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title...

Maybe you could build some kind of ramp/stand you could wheel it up on and work under it.

As long as the batteries are charged to the same voltage before you connect them, it should work.

Re: Donor for tall guys

Painted the controller matte black and cleaned up all the wiring. Looks much better now. I discovered that I had the tires underinflated, but don't have a presta adapter for the front, so I'll have to pick one up tomorrow. I am having problems though with the controller/LCD, which sucks since I pai...

Re: Running (2) Batteries together

It seems like you have a good system. If you run them together they will both run out of juice at the same time and you will down while they are charging, so you won't get that extra 20 miles.

Re: Donor for tall guys

I am another vote for fenders. They are not just useful for riding in the rain. After the rain or even from sprinklers or water leaks, there will be a lot of puddles that you can just ride through with fenders and not get wet. Set boundaries and give them the idea that your time is valuable and you'...

It looks good. FWIW, I don't think you would have come out ahead trading IT work for a powder coat. Once they have your number, most small businesses want hours of free phone support. But if they are friends, then they probably already have your number.

Re: The SB Cruiser: Amberwolf&Dogman's 2WD CargoTrike&DogCarrier

Here's a turn signal / handlebar control unit my brother ordered for his trike. Should really switch those well, don't'cha think? I guess you could use them for turn signal indicators, by twisting one back and forth to reflect light into the eyes of whoever is behind you.... (Amazon co...

This is just a quick update. Progress has been slow due to work and other things, but it is starting to look like a bicycle.

Re: I'm down a rabbit hole

When I first started bike commuting, I bought a Brompton so I could bring it in the office and not have to leave a bike outside for the weather and the thieves. A week or two after I bought it, the office installed bike lockers. I was able to rent one and switched to riding a full sized bike instead...

Re: Donut wheel scooter news

Which ones hurts/kills the most? Probably cars (large motor vehicles in general). Apparently, being over 65 on an e-bike is deadlier than driving a car. Although I am sure that a car was often involved with those deaths. https://bicycledutch.wordpress.com/2018/04/25/more-cycling-fatalities-than-dea...

Re: I'm down a rabbit hole

Those were the ones I was thinking of, read about them years ago on this forum. Back then they werent available to the public, only manufacturers. Looks like now they can retrofit a bike with S&S Couplers. https://www.bantambicycles.com/ss-couplers s&s couplers, new frames: $650 Single bike frame, ...

Re: I'm down a rabbit hole

Make a custom "folder" bicycle, I would just split two bikes in half at the seat tube, then weld on some flat plate and use quality bolts. These hinges look neat https://www.designboom.com/readers/folding-bike-by-philip-crewe/ http://moto-rdesign.blogspot.com/2012/02/phils-folding-bike.html Better ...

em3ev are sending me a replacement motor today.

Hopefully it arrives before Wednesday, when I was planning on going on a trip away.

Let's see! In the mean time I'm working on the peripherals.
That seems like a good result.

I would wait the two weeks to get a good motor from EM3EV. If you go the repair route, make sure it doesn't void your warranty.

Re: Lower back pain and bikes

My back isn't as bad as some, but it goes out once or twice a year. It went out a week before my daughter's wedding and I was stuck in a chair unable to help with the preparations. My wife was pissed at me because it went out during a run and she thought it was somehow my fault. I have had it go out...

Yeh they weren't too expensive and thought would feel safer as an alternative if my current brakes aren't up to the job. Worst case, I'll eBay them. Have all your parts arrived? Yes, I have all the parts and have started the build. I wasn't able to work on it this weekend as I had to travel home. I...

That's a nice looking bike. So you decided to go with hydraulic brakes (based on the brake levers you bought)?

Re: Cyclist spits at me and makes a buzzing noise !

Depends on if there is 10 of them, and 1 of you, or 10 of you, and one of them. To make an assault charge stick, against 10 lying witnesses, you'd need the video. You could speed ahead of them, on a really fast bike, then drop the tacks. But not if you expect to see them again at a stop light. Ther...

I'm not going to spend that kind of money to look like a much dorkier dork than I already do.
I don't mind looking like a dork, but I am not really interested in wheel lights. It was just an academic exercise.

Re: [!Bling!] Wheel lighting

It's called a slip ring. I once made one for carrying power from a front wheel solar array to the charge controller. I don't know of any slip rings designed for bicycle wheels. Making one is easily a bigger project than everything else involved in wheel lighting. It's neither easy nor cheap. Reelig...

I don't know the answer for that. I am average size haven't run into that problem. Perhaps a better crankset like the Deore XT would last longer. You would have to replace the bottom bracket too though. Lennard Zinn makes bikes for larger riders and I ran across this article by him a couple of years...

Re: Battery Voltage and Motor choices

Have you played with the motor simulator at Grin yet? You can simulate the effects of different voltages on different motors. I went with a 52V battery and a geared GMAC 10T motor. A higher voltage on the same motor will result in a higher top end speed. A smaller diameter wheel will need a faster m...
