Re: Golden Motor Regen BLDC 48V controller

if your FETs were 100V I'd be in trouble. but since there are no reports of busted 48V regen controllers I think I'm ok, specially taking into account that my power bus will be much better decoupled than yours. your controller will fry if the bus hits a critical voltage somewhere between 58.9V and ...

Re: E-bike motor spokes

Give danscomp a call, they have the biggest selection of Sapim stainless in that size. Maybe you could just relace the entire wheel while you are at it. http://www.danscomp.com/435925.php?cat=PARTS Yes I found them in my Google search but had not called them till now. They offer a 170mm length whic...

Re: E-bike motor spokes

There is a big difference between a spoke, and a quality spoke. That is more important than spoke size IMO. Sapim makes high quality 12ga spokes, what size do you need? Measurement from outside edge of spoke to to rim plus 2mm for what's inside is 168.5mm on the GM motor plus 26 inch rim. Yes quali...

Re: E-bike motor spokes

You and me both. I think 12ga is overkill though, a quality 14ga is enough for even heavyweights. I broke three of the 13 gauge spokes thus far. My motor and battery are at the rear wheel and two of them broke at 36v. The GM is now running 48v and I am in the process of 60v on the new build. I have...

E-bike motor spokes

Where might I find some spokes for 26 inch wheels in 12 gauge for my Golden motor rear , a BMC old style rear and a C-light front. I have read and searched for hours and not found them although I have seen where others have aquired the same. I have 3 broken on my GM now and two other projects that I...

Re: Your Creation's Before & After Pics

I think it was posed to be pics and not temps but then I digress. 1991 Schwinn Sierra looked allot like this guys bike when I bought it a few months back. sierra.jpg But now 1000 miles later it looks like this. I did add a GM motor with a couple new wheels and a lifepo4 battery. My first build and i...

Justin I've been lurking and following your trek since I found the thread many days back. Built my first e-bike three months back, thanks to the great amount information shared on this forum, and was happy to make my goal of 20 miles out of a charge. Seeing you go across Canada put me over the edge....

Re: Good choice of bike for rear mount goldenmotor?

JinbaIttai Yes it is a Sierra a 1991 when the aluminum was US made 7005. I had to stretch the dropouts a bit over 1/8th inch to get the motor in the frame. It was a $350 bike in it's day so thought it was a good starting point. No problems as of 600+ miles. I am using the stock 5 speed freewheel tha...

Re: Good choice of bike for rear mount goldenmotor?

On my Schwinn the motor fit very tight in the rear dropouts and they required a slight bit of spreading. Others have stated the same with different bikes. Talked with one of the more knowledable bike shops near me and they said more would not fit without some serious dishing of the wheel which was n...

Re: Whats you top speed?

Top speed GM 500w rear motor 36v 10ah lifepo pack 60lb bike and load of 200lbs is 23mph with pedals and 20mph without on level ground. Will do better when I get the 48v battery pack. Looking for more from my next build which is in the werqs. Now 48 volts so 25+ without pedaling and takes on most hil...

Re: How does your ebike weight?

30lb Schwinn, 17lb GM motor, 12lb 10ah lifepo4 36v batts and a pound of misc bike stuff so 60lb total add another 5lb for more batts. Then there is the rider and stuff lock, tool kit, pump ect. Total fully loaded is usually near 260lbs. Bike 2 Giant Trance3 V2s, 4.6ah 66V a123, that's 15 miles worth...

Re: torque Arms

Kinda figured you would say to mount it on that side as I just got done re-wiring everything for the second time. Pulling out all of the terminals from their plugs and putting them back in again is a pain. Well guess I should be good at it by now. Will wait till I get a 48v battery then I can do it ...

Re: Looking for reliable hub motor

You have a few posts and lots of info to wade through. So I guess one more won't hurt. I bought the rear Golden motor kit in 36v and replaced both of the wheels on the bike with some strong double walled rims. 500 miles plus later no problems. I am in the middle of an upgrade to 48v should get me th...

Re: torque Arms

OK I bought one of these the 14mmx10mm one and it fits my 36v 500w GM rear motor and the old 1991 Schwinn Sierra it's mounted to. I did NOT use the stock axle nuts supplied with the GM kit as the threads were not square with the face of the nut. So I purcased a good quality nylock/aircraft locknut. ...

Ouch ugly arm! Mine was messed up too at the time of my first build but not on the outside. Still is for that matter. I tried to get to the checkout for you and could not. They may require registration and log in for to purchase as some places do. I am trying to do a new build myself found out I am ...

Re: Golden Motor Regen BLDC 48V controller

I put a small momentary switch on my 36V Regen activate/de-activate. It did not have the desired effect/activating Regen. Only after I came to a complete stop was I able to activate or de-activate the Regen function with the switch. I too did not use the funky brake levers with the switch either. I ...
