Re: Your Creation's Before & After Pics

Daughter and Son-in-law were up last year and took a ride on my Giant. Easy to say they loved it when I saw the grin. ;^) So, thought he deserved one as well. Found a decent used bare frame and bought a new front fork. Had some rims and bars which I stripped and had powder coated locally to match th...

Re: My ebike is too torquey, how do i settle it down a bit?

I have had several controllers on my BMC geared motors and none have been perfect, throttle wise, but with some programming and a bit of careful control on my part I can live with it. The higher my batt voltage the harder throttle control becomes in my case anyway. Will be trying a throttle tamer so...

Re: Looking at this- need help

Well the bike alone went for just over 2K here in the states last year. Yes the drive is going to make some noise Google the cyclone e-bike motor watch some vids and listen to what the motors sound like. Looks like well thought out and well built from what I can see. Bought the same bike last year d...

Re: Battery Placement for mid-drive conversion

I have about 7lbs of batts high on my rear rack and it does not noticeably affect my riding. When I had 14 lbs there on my first build with a DD motor the bike got pretty squirrely at low speed. With the batts in panniers it was much better. Low in the triangle, near where your motor is going to be,...

Re: 10,000 mile club

Well over 10K on the Giant with BMC V2S mostly although I put a couple hundred on it with a V2T. My only transportation for three years due to head trauma but able to drive again so less miles on the bike, in the rain, but I still commute on it daily.

Re: I have my dream car! And it's an EV! :-)

Nice car for the race track. Yup I would think raising it a little so you don't drag it and leave little pieces here and there would be good ;^) I hope you can get it street legal but it looks like to much fun for them to allow that. I wish you luck with your addiction. ;^) Oh, did I ferget to say I...

Re: waterproofing controller/battery connection

I use shrink wrapped bullets on connectors I seldom have to split when they are out in the weather. But like you said, put the 45A Anderson connectors in my battery bag or sometimes under the seat with no waterproofing at all. Oh, and I re-purposed a handlebar grip to stuff many wires in including t...

Nice one now I feel even worse for having to werq for a living cuz I had an attitude when I was young and did not live up to my potential. Re: Is it bad to have a battery supported by only its corner

Doesn't look like a good idea to me. Bouncing around will cause it to wear and then short and then $#$%^!!. between your legs. Batteries have a hard enough life on a bumpy bike. You might want to support them kindly to keep your private parts from being toasted by the extra heat caused by unhappy l...

Re: eBike Mania

Really would not call it a bike. It plainly looks like a scooter, rides like a scooter so most will look at it as such. Putting pedals on a scooter to try to bypass the law like that is kind of a ridicules thing to do in the first place.

Re: LiFePO4 Battery Pack Question

The rest of your AH is probly the energy you are wasting in heat. A 10AH cheap lifepo4 pack might not be able to supply the amperage needed to power your bike. Possibly you need a 15 or 20AH to get the job without heating your batts excessively. Hard to say unless you supply more info.

Re: Disc Upgrade

Wow looks ugly. I never even tried to use the 160mm rotors, that came with my bike, just bought adapters and installed the 203mm as I figured if I was going faster I needed to stop faster as well. The rotors were the only brake upgrade I did and with 10K miles logged it's plainly all I will ever nee...

I usually just play with the simulator at
Grinn to get approximate speeds/rpms ect with different size wheels, motors battery voltages ect. Lots of fairly accurate info there. http://www.ebikes.ca/tools/simulator.html

Re: improving the braking power of hydraulic disc brakes

I have the stock entry level Hayes mechanical MX4 brakes with the 203 mm rotors on my Giant and they put me up on the front wheel or skid the back whenever I choose for it to be so. If your brake levers get a good solid feel and stop before they hit near the bottom then I would look at the pads firs...

Nice job on the battery packs light, strong and some fire resistance as well. Looks like it may werq out good. Nice forks too. I'm still running my a123 26650 pack and after 4 years and 10K they seem to get me about the same distance. Have more for the next 2 builds, in progress, as well.

Re: MAC motor on front??

I have approximately 14K miles on single rear drive hub motors, 4k on one and 10K on the other, and have only been stranded by a blown controller once and a flat with foreign objects, three holes and a crummy co2 cartridge pump another time. Me I have the same thoughts as motomech on the dual motor ...

Re: leads are getting shorter...

You are right to be concerned as you are likely to have some resistance at higher amperage loads. Less connectors is better but two or three good ones will be fine so long as the connections remain clean, tight and do not heat up. I run two sets of the 45A Andersons in each my battery supply lead wi...
