Re: Overvolting Bafang BPM

Curious - how many kms would you expect to get out of one of these at 500w? My code 10 (300RPM) BPM in a 26" wheel gives a tad over 26 mph (42 km/h) on 12S LiPo (50V max). A code 11 would be about 5% slower. Power consumption varies greatly with speed, terrain and amount of pedaling. With my Townie...

Re: KU93 with Bafang CST 250w (350w) inadequate for hills

Moving up to 48V will increase the overall motor power and torque output and yes it will increase the maximum speed of the motor. It is YOU however that control the speed via the throttle so if you don't want to go faster then don't. If the throttle becomes too sensitive after upping the voltage you...

Oh BTW, You have verified the charger does fully charge the 36V battery when plugged into a household outlet, right?

Re: How to charge my 36v 15ah SLA battery from the car?

With that charger a 300W inverter should be more than enough. Still as I stated before if your charger is a switching type, and if it's a lightweight brick it almost certainly is, then the current it draws is far from an ideal sine wave which might cause problems with some inverters. I can't make a ...

Re: How to charge my 36v 15ah SLA battery from the car?

Due to the poor power factor of most chargers it's a good idea to choose an inverter with at least twice the continuous watt rating as the charger. -R I also understand that I should expect an initial surge that might be more than the overall wattage needed. But that should only be to operate a pie...

Yeah the controller looks really cool with the translucent potting material but I guess I'm in the minority here cuz I want my controllers to blend in so basic black is my preference. A nice universal mounting system that allows mounting the controller on the bike tubes would be tops on my wish list...

Re: KU93 with Bafang CST 250w (350w) inadequate for hills

The delay on my KU93 from a dead stop is maybe 2 seconds and when already in motion maybe a second. I only really notice it when I need to cross a street quickly, then it can seem like forever when traffic is bearing down fast. Your power use does seem rather high for that average speed. My highest ...

Re: Does this 29er rear hub configuration look workable?

Most every vendor sells their motors in a 700C rim (622mm) and that's all a 29" rim is, a wider 700C rim. Most 700C rims they use have an internal width of about 19mm which is ok for up to about a 2.0" tire. However since it costs a lot more to ship a whole wheel than a motor and since most Chinese ...

Re: KU93 with Bafang CST 250w (350w) inadequate for hills

The battery is a 36v, 14.5ah with 10s x 5 Samsung ICR18650 29E LiNiMnCoO2 cells (3.7V 2.9Ah). This is marked and sold as 250w although as you say it's a 350w. D8veh tested one of these 350w CST/BPMs at 22 amps and at 30 amps and found there wasn't an increase in power at the latter current. I don't...

Re: KU93 with Bafang CST 250w (350w) inadequate for hills

The late model KU93 unit, the one with the optional control panel , does have soft-start as you noted and unless you use the control panel it also defaults to the mid-speed setting . I don't use the control panel but I did install an internal jumper to enable full speed. I use one on my main bike an...

Mlt34, Just a reminder that you were originally claiming 12.34Ah from the 10Ah battery. The 9.89Ah is still quite good for a 2.5 year old battery. Do keep in mind however that what your charger says it puts back in is going to be a bit higher than what the battery actually delivered during discharge...

Re: Simulation is significantly different than actual result

I use the simulator at ebikes.ca all of the time. It's a great way to compare motors and juggle variables to see what happens. If you ride your bike on level ground with no wind and no pedaling the power consumption numbers it gives also are darn close. I've never tried to test its hill-climbing pre...

Re: Looking to electrify a new 2015 Jamis Coda Elite

The chainwheel on the Bafang mid-drive is spaced out about 50mm from the centerline of the bike. The ideal chainline for a 1x9 setup to use all of the rear cogs would be for the front chainring to line up dead center to the rear cassette. Depending on whether the rear wheel is spaced 130 or 135mm th...

Re: Looking to electrify a new 2015 Jamis Coda Elite

Would a mid drive unit work with this bike, something like a Bafang 8fun 350w with 36v 11ah battery I was going to use one myself on my last build however the very wide Q-factor (1 person measured 188mm) and right side crank offset (16mm) make it unattractive to me. Also the chainline of around 50m...

Re: Looking to electrify a new 2015 Jamis Coda Elite

Since your new bike has a carbon fork that rules out a front motor so a rear motor it'll have to be. If you want to retain the 9 speed drivetrain you'll either have shim out a freewheel equipped motor or buy a cassette rear motor. There aren't many full kits available with cassette motors so you'll ...

Re: Pure sine wave inverter not powering 400W charger

I would check the inverter with a resistive load, like 6 100W light bulbs, to make sure it functions as it should then I would reconnect the charger with the current output dialed way down to see if it works at all. If it does work at the lower current then dial up the current to see at what point t...
