Re: BMS necessary for LiPo pack?

Yeah that cell won't be coming back.

Assuming you ordered from Hobbyking, make sure you register the warranty codes for your Lipo packs (option on the Customer Service tab when logged in to your account).

Also take a photo of the voltmeter measuring the cell as proof.

Re: Grinhilia - my Aprilia RS125 Conversion

Before pulling the engine, I weighed both ends - 69 kg rear, 71kg front. This info will be essential for the engineer who inspects and certifies the changes. I also made a rough measurement of the Centre of Gravity by lifting the front end with a sling and engine crane until the balance point was re...

Re: Grinhilia - my Aprilia RS125 Conversion

Thanks Bernel. The next question is how will everything fit? I've scratched around on paper quite a lot looking at motor mount locations. The motor has a diameter of 228mm and a width of 86mm, and is mounted from one side only. There are three configurations which I considered: 1. Outboard mounting ...

Re: How can I change shock position without altering geometr

This arrangement seems to work well with V-twin motors which can be quite long front-to-rear. Another example is the Britten V1000.

Re: Grinhilia - my Aprilia RS125 Conversion

In order to reach my performance goals, I need something optimised for light weight. This is something in common with my earlier e-bike builds, using RC outrunner motors. A dual- Colossus was a potential candidate that I considered. Still going with the outrunner theme, I've decided on the Emrax 228...

Yeah! A shaft drive conversion would be pretty cool, not quite as easy to adjust the gear ratio though.

Re: Grinhilia - my Aprilia RS125 Conversion

Thanks guys. 4.5kWh is a lot for an ebike, - but for a motorbike, I look at it as less than half the size of a Zero pack, so range would be way less than a Zero also. but how long do you plan to ride with a 60kW motor? - it would only get the chance to hit that sort of power for a few seconds at a t...

Grinhilia - my Aprilia RS125 Conversion

It's been a few years since I've documented a build on ES, but I think this one will be interesting. Back in 2012, I got a learners permit for motorcycles. Its been an exciting step up from e-bikes which I have embraced enthusiastically. I have found that there is a wealth of knowledge in the ICE-po...

Re: Hyena's e-bike builds (now with HD video)

Yeah the Aprilia will be electrified & registered, probably about a 5 kWh battery. I eventually got a new Enertrac stator fitted to the Ninja, went heaps better (up the driveway) 25kW versus the previous 6kW!!! No plans for it though, just lying around until the next EV festival! Incidently ...

Re: Hyena's e-bike builds (now with HD video)

Hey I like your next project Hyena! The engineering process shouldn't be too hard if you keep structural mods to a minimum - just bolt stuff in if you can. Also try and keep the rear brake as is, although shifting it sideways should be OK. I started a new road bike project a few weeks back too - an ...

Re: Commuter Booster - <1kg Friction Drive

This seems to be the right place to post about ongoing maintenance for the Commuter Booster and Brain Box. Last week my wife's commuter had a failure while riding in the rain. (What's wrong with it? " It doesn't work anymore." ) I was expecting to find blown FETs on the ESC, but the ESC power...

Re: Commuter Booster - <1kg Friction Drive

Hi Adrian, Thanks for the update, and thanks for sharing all your work so far with the e-bike community. I guess the silver lining is that you have made the call about not going commercial at this stage rather than after investing too heavily. I feel privileged to be an owner of a Brain Box then, a ...

Nice to see an older conversion brought back to life, well done.

The ducted cooling system looks great.

The front headlight unit seems to suit the look of the bike quite well. Is that a generic aftermarket unit or has it come from another bike?

Great summary of the weekend, Chris.

Congrats on the wins, and I hope you get to do some good setup work at the track over the next month.

Unfortunately the live web feed on Sunday was broken, so I had to make do with checking race results and watching numbers tick over on the live lap timing.

Well a huge success all round. Where else can you see so many different EV's in one place? Solar powered cars, Tesla, Renault Twizy, Electric Superbikes, plenty of e-bikes, electric skateboards, karts, mobility scooters, drift trikes, electric Radical racecar, even some 1980s Sinclairs. And got to p...

Thanks for making the effort to come up to Newcastle, Jay. The festival gets bigger each year. Good work on the overnight rebuild, too. I did manage a second in the 1500, my top speed was about 65km/h so it was a struggle. I suspect something has gone astray with the hall positioning in my Enertrac,...

Re: Electric car world record attempt

This car will be doing some demo laps next weekend at the Hunter Valley EV Festival, so I'll get to see it live.

It is a huge shift in people's thinking for a car to weigh so little, I'm glad there are people showing what can be achieved if we really try.
