Re: New ebike sport - MAMIL fishing

So true, the best most fast ebikers can hope for against the real lycra crowd is to sprint ahead for some distance then turn around and go home. In a few hours, the lycra will have been to the next town and back while you're recharging.

The red may be a softer ompound, or it may be just marketing. I'd guess softer. Agree totally with Chalo's comments re: Canti brakes still being a useful option. I found when I moved from cantis to linear pull (aka v) brakes that my absolute top end braking power only increased slightly. It was much...

Re: New Metal-Free Battery Technology !!

Because it's extremely heavy compared to current vehicle battery types. The advantage is cost through use of more common materials and cheaper process, therefore being able to scale from individual locations up to potentially having an impact on grid.

Re: Sharpening disposable razor blades !

I switched to a double edge safety razor about 4 years ago after years of mowing my face with various Gillette products with occasional forays into electric. The only time I go back to the cartridge is when traveling, as I am always carryon only when I away for business. And the blades I order by th...

Re: First battery build and first RC charger questions

I was planning on using the 12v battery as charger just during the build, when I'll be first charge paralell groups to full voltage, then checking the individual cells with a rough IR measure, I understand the 1420 does IR measurement with newer firmware. It may not be that accurate, but may help so...

First battery build and first RC charger questions

Hi all. Got my toolpack batteries from doc all pulled apart, and my hyperion 1420i charger arrived yesterday. My holiday project will be to turn this pile of bits into a 14s/as many as I can-P pack. First - for the charger, I'm planning on using a deep cycle 12v RV battery for starters because I hav...

Re: 9 Lives? (Re: Porsche Crash)

Near death implies distance, so for me the closest would be a few mm, right about where the faint scar runs from the corner of my eye to the corner of my ear, where I fell 2m onto my head on a rough and rocky beach on an island in Deep Cove just off Vancouver, where I had been canoeing. I likely tri...

or a tricycle. or a fixed gear bike of any sort. all same idea. at high power the stokemonkey woukd be scary, but its not designed for that.

I prefer the idea of the freewheeling crank, but don't think the direct is that dangerous.

Cell condition/testing questions

Hey all, I've finally got all 20 of my packs deconstructed and checked initial voltage and have a question about what cells are OK to use. More than 10% of my good cells have a dark stain what I'm guessing is elecrolyte leaked under the skin. These cells voltage measure the same as the rest of the g...

Juries in Canada aren't randomly selected. The initital jury pool is (excluding anyone under 18, prisoners, ...), after that, the selection process is anything but random. The idea of randomly selecting our leaders is insane though, even if you could. I like the idea of the USA version, replacing th...

Re: Remaining noob questions after reading all noob guides

A 60v 2807 is too fast for a front hub, IMO. I say this having run a 2807 front on a 48v/15ah ping. I found that slightly too fast and too harsh with no suspension on all but the smoothest roads. I've since moved to a rear drive with a shock up front and it is so much better. I liked my 2907 front b...

It's a curious question, why a North American Mfg company is letting off spec out the door at all. Perhaps there is something peculiar about the secret sauce mfg method or chemistry that results in a certain percent that fail spec in a consistent way.

Me and my wife did a loaded pedal bike tour from Vancouver BC to Monterey CA on 26x1.25 Paselas, I only had three flats, all on the same morning. First was a tube change, second was a patch, the third flatted, I took it out, couldn't find the leak, put it back in and then rode another 1000Km on it. ...

Good beer is better fresh. My bet is that doing a google maps search for 'brewpub' in your vicinity, then walking into several and trying many beers there would be a good start. Try to find one that's really local, and not a chain or in a strip mall. I don't run with hipsters, but they undeniably ha...

Re: Chainring Reccomendation for High-Speed Pedal Assist

http://www.machars.net/bikecalc.htm Use that to figure out your gearing needs. If your normal cadence is 70, I'd aim that for a little under the 25mph mark so you still feel like you are pushing. I ran 48/11 top gearing on a 26" wheel and only started to wish for more well over 30mph. That calculat...

Hobbyking 6s Lipo recommendations circa Sept 2013

I've decided to risk the apocalypse and use RC Lipo for my commuter bike, my Ping 48/15 pack having finally given up the ghost. The deciding factor was a colleague at work offering me a deal on his Turingy balance charger, which makes the economics too hard to pass up compared to pre-built LifePO4. ...

Re: How Does This AL Front Fork Look for E-Bike?

Having run a 1000w setup on a front fork for years I can confirm exactly what Dogman says. The radius on the area above the dropout is all wrong and you should not use that fork. You need a flat area around the entire dropout, the c-washer is totally required too unless you have no cup and no lawyer...
