Re: Random Idea to save the world

The beatiful thing about OLED is that it wiill take over, not because it is green but because it will become cheaper to manufacture in the end due to instrinsically lower material inputs due to not needing a light source separate from the image source. And unlike many technologies that may be superi...

Don't run a controller in a frame bag - you'll cook it. Controllers need air, which is why they all have some sort of heatsunk fins on at least one outside edge.

Get ready for it. And Ypedal should not complain, as you live in a land rich in everything except sunshine, what Dogman has in abundance, and fish, what you used to have but our govt and greedy fishers who should have known better decimated. Sunshine is nice, but the word desert is a synonym for lac...

Re: Elon Musk's - Hyperloop

It is way subsonic, so vacuum is not even remotely an issue. Note Musk says average speed is double, and uses the LA to SF route as a comparison. If you take the time the door closes and opens as start and end, it's not at all hard to beat short haul jets with fast trains, as the train will be at ma...

Re: ebike vs pedal power: which is more energy demanding

Justin's argument is purely energy efficency, and so ebikes win out. Lester, you are talking cost efficiency, and then you include the time parameter, which is so variable if you are trying to convert it to $. Taking into account the health benefits of pedaling, I think I'd have to side with the ped...

That is such a zen throwdown to all those who think they 'need' just about anything. She needs only one wheel connected to two pedals to cross half a continent. No motor, no gears, no sponsorship team bus following her around.

Holy crap. I can't believe this thread stayed under the radar a whole day. Brodie was one of the original mountain bike pioneers in the northwest, and is a master framebuilder. A few notes and advice from Justin and he's off and making one of the most beautiful builds I've yet seen. Take notes, it's...

I've got a Smartkat and it is crazy wild above 25 knots. When solo it sails one pontoon at bout 6 knots and then it gets wild. If there are no waves it is an amazing boat and can sail well at 15 degrees into the wind. My problem is flipping when turning. Lake Balaton is huge with a lot of gusty mic...

Re: Caleb Moore dies after injuries in X Games crash

I think there are two key reasons chalo is not ripping on Luke - his bikes are built with skill to take the power, and luke only calls it an ebike if it can really be pedaled. I can sympathise with chalo's position because a lot of motor culture is ignorant selfish people burning through resource an...

Why do so many get their knickers in a twist when Chalo berates the moto culture? Sounds like some are using their watts as manhood and feel the need to defend it. I can't get with the whole backfilpping a snowmobile as sport thing either - mostly because a guy on a BMX can do way cooler things with...

I concur, as a young lad with a penchant for homemade fireworks/explosives I spent a day and a half grinding a magnesium VW crankcase into powder so we could get that reaction started.

OK, I'm about to bypass the BMS for discharge - so I thought I'd check in hoping someone can confirm how to wire it. -P is where I am currently connecting the black wire for the main discharge connector. It is here I am getting ~14V. I am going to instead connect this wire to the wire currently lead...

Re: Ping output voltage issue - bad BMS again?

dnmun, Thanks for the clarification on the high voltage cutoff - I was only concerned as I had monitored individual cell voltages before and never seen such a high measure. Perhaps now that the pack is less balanced, I'm seeing the high voltages climb more as a result. My "other identity" is in fact...

Re: Ping output voltage issue - bad BMS again?

Dogman, The controller is a 45A as it was upgraded on warantee due to stock by eBikes.ca and I was not going to say no - but I've limited it using the CA to 20A or less - so I doubt that is the concern. I also rarely go below 50% DOD, and never below 80. My commute got shorter just after I upgraded ...

I'm measuring with a digital multimeter on the 20V setting. Using the instructions that Mr Ping supplied when I replaced the original BMS - putting the red lead on the pin where the red wire fits on the 16 pin connector and the black lead on the adjacent pin, then moving the pair of leads along to m...

Ping output voltage issue - bad BMS again?

All, I've got a 48v/15Ah ping v2.5 - last year, the BMS got replaced as one of the charge LED's was staying lit, and a single cell group got drained below the remainder. The weak group remained above 2.8V, so the damage was likely minimal. The BMS was replaced, and other than that weak group, the ba...

Dogman, Funny you posted that. I'm staring at my 3 year old 48v ping that is now running 5 cell groups lower than the other 11, this after recently replacing the BMS, and thinking about finally going lipo after 2 years of being lipo-curious. I've also been cautious about charging indoors, but summer...

LFP, With all due respect, and as a fellow libertarian - I think you're just wrong on this. Society has every right to sanction people for the potential to cause harm - particularly in public places. so your going to upgrade to a motorcycle frame yeah?? i think the brakes, suspension, strength of frame/wheels/tyres, steering control, aerodynamics of the fairings and seating position all that surely would make up for the extra weight of having a motorcycle frame I doubt that. Re: Why are cyclists so upset when we pass them?

I'm with veloman - though I'm no racer. It's funny what non-cyclists consider high average speeds on a bike and just how slow most people are. I've pedaled my way around since a young age, and can easily maintain 18mph/25kph average. I've done loaded touring on a 50kg bike/gear combo averaging 100km...
