Re: Tablet advice - iPad or Android?

Its one of the more oval dishes if that makes sense, you can use a normal round dish though it will still work, the real trick is in getting the LNB right, there's loads of info online on how to do it, this was made from a bit of copper tube, some old plain copper PCB etch board and some stiff coppe...

Ahh thats a real shame, its funny you know Jeremy there have been a few villages that seem to be hand picked at random for fibre trials, the way they select the villages of course is by no accident, it was quite funny when we learned that one of the villages near to us that suddenly got upgraded it ...

Re: Tablet advice - iPad or Android?

The way the BT FON thing works is that if you have your internet provided through BT and you enable your router to share the FON network then you get it for free, some mobile phone companies also offer it as a free service (although I guess its still paid for but hidden in your mobile plan) so its n...

Re: Tablet advice - iPad or Android?

I like Lukes Idea too, there is no law here in the UK stopping you from leaving your wifi connection open with no encryption for anyone to use, the problem comes with if you use it without asking the owner which make it kinda useless, that said I know many people that share their neighbours connecti...

Re: Tablet advice - iPad or Android?

I know, I loved the piece in Googles defence where they stated that it was the act of an "over enthusiastic engineer" its a bit like making an apology for Wernher von Braun in the same vein ;-)

Re: Tablet advice - iPad or Android?

Whilst I agree some of Googles tactics were a little dubious however there is a difference between war driving and simply logging peoples SSID, there is no law to stop you logging peoples SSID as they are broadcast publicly by your wireless router (unless you switch that feature off) and from what I...

I think its pretty funny that apple are rapidly trying to hire mapping specialists, like they are going to fix it over night  Google have already offered to help but apple are wanting to fix it themselves ? Google maps takes a lot of beating, the best thats come from swapping out webos on t...

Re: abusing geared hub motors

From my experience with geared motors hall sensors failures are quite a rare occurrence, on DD motors its far more common as the windings when over powered tend to fry the hall sensors before they let go, when you over power a geared motor its normally the one way bearing or the gears that strip bef...

Oh man Greg those pictures take me back! ha ha loved the lash on lens on the pocket camera, that took some pretty decent video I seem to remember, OK the Gopro these days is the king but old school lash ups like that still worked and worked well. I love the stem mount thats really neat, I am surpris...

Re: MAC motor suddenly stopped working

knoxie was totally right. it is unusual for the hall sensors to fail without a twistoff or severely overheated. i assume the guy did not know to rotate the wheel backwards when he tested the hall sensors. it is a geared motor. i find it so simple to test hall sensors it baffles me as to why people ...

Knoxie, I don't give a damn who you are, you sound like a twit. The purpose of the forum is to help people with problems and share technical info. Your time must be worth nothing. Go stroke your ego somewhere else if you are not going to contribute something useful. Efold, I would suggest trying to...

Re: Tablet advice - iPad or Android?

The Ipad is a nice consumer bit of tech but the Android based devices are far more flexible in what you can do with them, i.e. no tie to itunes, an SD slot for storing pics and vids and apps even the most basic ones have that. For me I like to have both, I have a HP touchpad which I got very cheap i...

I spend an hour posting a very detailed explanation on how to repair a sensor that will help a lot of people. And you reply with a stupid nitwit comment. You disagree all you want. Re: Recommend me a hub motor for off road use.strong, light,t

yes at 48V a geared motor will give you much more climbing ability than a direct drive, hub motors are not the best solution for trail riding but they can be used and I take mine off road quite a bit you just have to treat them well, it also depends on your weight too, I mean if thats you in the ava...

Re: MAC motor suddenly stopped working

$60 + shipping? we used to buy the motors for less than that  its easy to change hall sensors on these motors but I disagree its 90% of the problem, the gears and the one way bearing are more troublesome from my long experience with these motors.

Re: MAC motor suddenly stopped working

Sounds like a broken one way bearing to me, does it freewheel forwards and backwards ok? easy way to check if its the halls or the clutch is to take the motor apart and run it so you can see the gears spinning you should be able to tell straight away. You can of course use an ebike tester or a multi...

i've sorted it out! no one will ever guess! hilarious! the other day i noticed a nice spoke magnet for a speedo on an old bike and attached it to mine, to replace the plastic stripped one i'd been using (came w/ CA  ) and that i'd secured with, you guessed it, gorilla tape. i was in the middl...

Ahh Greg Watched your video and cant believe you are having so many issues :? what a pain...you made me feel tired just listening to you so you must be so wiped out, looking at the lamination damage that can so easily happen when the motor snaps back in to the wheel (you can also do a lot of damage ...

Re: BMC Settup

If you want to keep it reliable then dont amp it up, keeping the voltage below 50 and the current below 35 is the key to make these motors last, mine has run happily like this for 5 years and I have only just changed the freewheel /one way assembly inside the motor. The motors I used to run at 2.5KW...

Re: Torque arm play? stretched dropouts?

yes you are right, the torque arm needs to be super snug on the axle and also firmly fixed to the rear triangle, I also agree hose clamps are not an ideal solution, you can use hose clamps to secure the bracket to stop it moving but you are correct it all needs to be solid to avoid the situation whe...

Yes the parallel board is useful, I have my D connector hooked up to it but can swap that out to charge my RC packs or booster packs in parallel too, this charger really is the mutts nuts, my batteries have been so much better since getting it, on the long runs I do I have noticed that they sag less...

There is no law here in the UK that cycle lights have to be halogen, LED bike lights are certified for road use here in the UK the only provision being that flashing lights must not be fixed to the bike i.e. can be worn on clothing, only steady illumination when fixed. And in fact cycle lights su...

Re: Hyena's super awesome isolated high current balance char

Yes had my unit for about a month now and can report great things too, its so fast the packs are always balanced 100% not only that but if you want to boost the pack in your lunch break or whilst out on a ride it levels the pack off really quickly whilst charging too so you can unplug and use a bala...
