Dave,
Is that part of my kit?
That black looks awesome....
How is it going with Astro?

Re: my new (to me) ebike, ready to modify!

Took it for a spin. With my 220lbs, it does seem very slow....maybe 10mph or so. Also it's annoying that you can't use the throttle, without first pedaling first. Will leave it stock so the kids have a working bike on Christmas morning...but I'm thinking 48v 18650 pack...controller that will bypass ...

Re: my new (to me) ebike, ready to modify!

The hyper bikes arrived yesterday.
Overall I am very impressed with the quality for the price.
The pedal are not usable, but no big deal.
My biggest disappointment is that the fork does not seem to be the standard 1 1/8 stem...which makes a fork upgrade a pita.

Wow Dave,
That looks like the ideal bike for your kit.

How does the chain and sprockets hold up? Any skipping?

Looks like they just sold out.

Here's another option

I purchased a 22s 150a BMS from them for my NYX build

Re: my new (to me) ebike, ready to modify!

That's great news. I have two 48v BMS' on the way from luna cycle. Was going to experiment with the stock controller and upgrade if necessary. Also looking at these forks in the 24" version; http://www.aliexpress.com/item/20er-24inch-bicycle-bike-cheap-mtb-fork-disc-brake-forks-suspensao-suspen...

Re: my new (to me) ebike, ready to modify!

Matt,
I just order one for each of my kids for Christmas. What a deal!

Let me know if you have any ideas for upgrades.

Building 18650 battery packs will be first on the list.

Next search for 20" forks

Re: 48V 18650 configuration

A 9p pack will give you the ability to pull some amps (depending on what type cells you use). I think it's worth the extra $20 to buy something like this. http://lunacycle.com/batteries/bare-cells/48v-13s-50amp-bms-for-18650s-digital-battery-protection-system/ Also definitely buy a charger with an a...

Re: 48V 18650 configuration

kje, I'm new to this hobby, but have put in a great deal of research, preparing to build several packs for mine and my kids e bikes. The bms you linked to is rated at 25amps. I would try to go to at least 50a continuous rating to avoid it shutting down under load. Luna cycle sells a quality 48v and ...

Re: Dave's 80:1 RC mid drive kit build log

Here's a quote from Dave from an email; "We should definietly use an HV120 to get the most out of the motor. I'm not going to be able to make an ESC soon- I plan on testing then integrating the Grin Phaserunner as soon as I can, when they start shipping them in two months. So, that means we nee...

Re: My new 800 watt second Capacitor Discharge Welder

Tom, Thanks, much appreciated. I'm also trying to do this on a shoe string budget. The pelican case I already have lying around. Fritz told me that the capacitors he recommends are now hard to find. He offered to sell me one of his completed machines, but $2k is way to much for me. I plan on doing t...

Re: My new 800 watt second Capacitor Discharge Welder

Tom, Thanks for posting your welder build. I have gone ahead and purchased Fritz's plans, control pcb, and ver2.1 microprocessor. He doesn't have any mosfet pcb's right now, but hopefully will have some in a month or two. You mentioned that you bought an extra 1/4 of parts. Please PM me if you want ...

Re: Dave's 80:1 RC mid drive kit build log

I'm looking at ways to beef up the drive train before my kit shows up. So far I've added a wolf tooth 40t to the 10 speed cassette and removed my 13t. I will lock out my 11t effectively making it a 9 speed 15t-40t. New wipperman chain going on (most beefy 10sp chain I could find) The crank will get ...

Rix,
The wfo will be interesting. Total weight of the kit is under 10lbs, plus a 13 lbs 14s 20amph battery in the camelback. Will start building that one next week.

Re: NYX/MXUS/Adaptto

Rix, Right now I'm leaning towards 19" moto wheel front and back, but front 26 mtb could save some weight. Just purchased a 2013 boxxer world cup for the front fork. I was wrong about there being 4 combos with the NYX brackets, I think there is 16+ since you can reverse each one. This is one of...

Re: NYX/MXUS/Adaptto

Thanks guys, pics will be coming! I'm currently looking at a 240mm cane creek with a 550lb spring (barely used ebay). Since that's the upper length limit, per NYX, I'm afraid it may throw the geometry off? It's nice they allow for 4 different bracket combinations to get it dialed in. Decision..decis...

Re: NYX/MXUS/Adaptto

Morati, Thanks for posting your build thread. My NYX frame should be arriving in a few weeks and I am looking at rear shock options. I want to get the cane creek DB coil shock. Did you go with a 9" length eye to eye? How is the 600lbs spring working out? I'm close to 100kg, 6'4" and I want...

Re: Dave's 80:1 RC mid drive kit build log

Ordered my kit this week. I want to thank Dave for making custom brackets for my unusual frame. (s-bend and linkage under the BB). I went for some upgrades; -3215 motor -HV120 esc -22t freewheel on the motor. This takes it to about 60:1.......170 rpm max at the crank. I will report back on my though...
