The Toecutter wrote:The solar panel is going to greatly increase the utility of your ride. How much did your solar system weigh?
It says 2,5 kg on the panel, but I haven't weighed it. The acrylic window I removed to install the panel weighs 1 kg, so the increase is about 1,5 kg.

Re: Project: Home made velomobile design with crank or mid m

My brake rotors are uneven, and pulsate. I don't feel anything in the steering though. They have always been like this. I'll replace them with Avid rotors that I have lying around.

Re: Project: Home made velomobile design with crank or mid m

I'm going to try one of these connected to the charge port of the BMS. Maybe make it switchable so that I can connect it to the output of the BMS when riding so that it contributes to the riding power, and to the charge port when I turn off power. http://www.ebay.com/itm/271833256005 Here's a short ...

Re: Bottom Bracket Standards and Bafang mid drive motors

Are there any websites for looking up information on brackets for those of us shopping for bikes expressly for future conversions? I'm having a hell of a timegetting any information on a Trek Marlin Gary Fisher edition from 2013. Bikepedia has it listed as unknown: http://www.bikepedia.com/QuickBik...

Re: Project: Home made velomobile design with crank or mid m

Feels like information overload. :) Is a buck converter all I need? I can buy a DC-DC boost converter and connect to the charge port of the BMS. Not sure if it will add energy simultaneously with draining the battery. I think the BMS prevents that. Maybe I can add a relay which connects it to the ba...

Re: Project: Home made velomobile design with crank or mid m

Playing with the idea of installing solar panels on top. The efficiency will be low where I live, but lets ignore that for now. How would I safely interface the solar panel to the battery so that it adds energy whenever the sun is shining on the panels?

Re: Capacitor bank for Castle controllers

Are you going to extend the wires? That's when you need them. Smaller ones in parallel will have a lower total ESR. One big one will probably work too.

Re: Project: Home made velomobile design with crank or mid m

I am going to replace the front shocks. I received one SR Suntour-shock to test, and it's way better than the old friction shock. I had hoped the friction shocks would loosen up, but they are still as firm as new. https://endless-sphere.com/forums/download/file.php?mode=view&id=196362&sid=55e7d50939...

Finished. The finidh up close isn't great. I used a roller, and the masking isn't perfect.

There are harder materials than hardened steel. Carbide. Get a carbide endmill of the same diameter and cut to length (get lots of cutting wheels, it's hard!).

Re: Programming the Bafang Middrive BBS01+BBS02

I think I know why my original cable doesn't work. It doesn't have the power pin connected to 36V, so it isnt turned onwhen connected. Oddly, my BBS01 seems to not need this to program.

Set it to the setting that is closest to the tirediameter, do a test and compare to GPS speed, and correct as necessary.

Re: Project: Home made velomobile design with crank or mid m

That sounds like a blast! I have a 750W middrive bafang BBS02 on my upright commuting bike. It can hit 50km/h even with the trailer :) But I guess the velo is a bit heavier! I think I have a 42 tooth chainring, and I have a Nexus 8 rear hub. When it stops accelerating it seems lightly loaded. It on...

Re: Project: Home made velomobile design with crank or mid m

I tried turning up the speed limit to 50 m/h yesterday. The motor spun out at 44 km/h, but I'm sure it would have no problem reaching 50 if I had a bigger chainwheel. The motor has a bout 1000 W when braked down to 60 rpm, but this was about 80 rpm, so the power is a lot lower.

It was very fun.

I think it's going to be hard to repair that circuit. There's probably more damage than what's obvious when components in the the low power circuit blow.

Re: Project: Home made velomobile design with crank or mid m

I use DC-DC regulators. The vents need to be where they can extract air from the cockpit ceiling, so they needed to be in that area. They are made with a brim that provides stiffness around the hole, and the brace. :)
