Eternal outskirts of Moscow and beyond (LOTS of pics!)

Post by Skorohod » Aug 31 2019 3:19am

Hi, everyone! Today i want to start a topic where i can share with you some photos from my favorite e-bike trips around Moscow, Russia. There my trip to Biryulyovo district from "golden autumn" of 2018:

Bridge over Yazvenka river. It roughly translates as "the Ulcer river" That means river with deep bed, a river that leaves "ulcer" or "sore" in earth.

As you can see, there not much left of "ulcerishnes" of Yazvenka. It became a swampy pond over a years...

Yup, I sure did enjoy the pictures. Keep the pictures coming!

I've only been to Moscow Russia a couple times for work, and I must stay that it is a very beautiful country. I wish to go back and explore Russia more.... perhaps one day that will be possible.

Very good pics. So you are saying they heated buildings from a source far away? Seems a waste to do that.

Bike looks nice. I'm rather sure it is a few watts over the law. Or do they have a ny limits on Ebikes there?
Also nice saddle bags, BIG/

Nyet on laws.
$10 bill is all it takes! Greenback preferred program.
Skorohod, do you have a Dotcha on the outskirts?
The only 2 Russian words I remember.

Yep, it's exactly like that - sources far away, inefficiency. A troubled legacy of soviet era. Around 1950 it seams like a good idea to redirect unused heat from coal power plants to heating. Long pipelines, weak insulation of cheap panel buildings? So what, we got a lots of coal :) Today coal stil in use only for one of many Moscow power plants and only as backup fuel. All other powerplants switched to natural gas as main fuel and mazut (fuel oil) as backup. Every summer those pipelines shut down due to maintenance and muscovites spend couple of weeks without hot water.

It's has a MXUS 3k turbo (a update for MXUS3000 AFAIK) in rear hub. Strangely enough, it's completely road legal according to russian road laws. In Russia vehicle with two or three wheels with speed not exceeding 50 km/h and powered by electric motor with rated power between 250 and 4000 Watts considered a moped. You only need a drivers license with any open category and helmet to drive moped, no license plates or registration needed. That makes lots of DIY bikes completely legal in Russia!

There is saying in Russia: "severity of the laws compensated by lack of they enforcement" ;)

I personally don't have a dacha, but some of my friends and relatives do. I visit them sometimes and use them dacha's as electric charger station :)

Today i want to show you some photos from my trips with group called themselfs "Wild Students". Wildely enough, there no actual students among them :) Some of them became PhD's, some of them are Masters of Sports in sport tourism. They gather together and have fun between hard-core bike tours. "Thursday rollerblades" - one of the activities i often tag along.

There literaly only one photo i've took in daylight during "Thursday rollerblades" - they gather after working hours, when it's dark in autumns. There it is, one of "Seven sisters", appartement building near Yauza river mouth:

From this point we going to see Moscow outskirts in night colors! The magnificent Elk Island national park, the reign of pine trees, swamps and, of course, elks! One of two paved roads in park, a Bumazhnaya proseka (bumazhnaya means paper, proseka means forestry road, cutting through forest) - old road used to deliver timber to paper mill:

Hate to keep the stereotype going but is that vodka in the cup?

I had to google the brands/types of vodka Russians like to drink.
"Zhouravli (cranes), Zelyonaya Marka (green label), Flagman (flagship), Parliament, and Khortitsya"

Here in the other "Great White North" aka Canada, Smirnoff Vodka was delicious, but like most I chose on price.

There goes another saying: "a pig can find mud everywhere" :) My bike is always a little dirty, sometimes - very dirty. Heavy rain converts "very dirty" to "a little dirty", though.

In my cup - green tea and piece of lemon. Some of wild students had a glintwine that evening, but no strong beverages though.
I personally dont drink alcohol at all :) Sorry to dissapoint you, but i know nothing about vodkas, beers or wines. Sometimes it can get in a way in socialising, like this time, lol.

Nice song, thanks. Despite title and lyrics of this particular song RHCP always give me that "last days of summer" nostalgia vibe. Maybe it's imprint from my last school summer in 1999 with their Californication album.

Yep, some landscapes are similar too (steppe and hills in deep south of Moscow region or Tula region). Alas, no mountains around. You need to travel more than 1000 kilometers from Moscow to see mountains.

That was two similar batteries in parallel connection. 14s11p each, NMC2650 18650 cells. That gives 52 Volts and 58 A*h or around 3000 W*h in total. Funny thing, they is the last remaining part from my Haro hardtail e-bike, all other parts (including frame) are sold out to people all over Russia.

Awesome! Yes, it can cause a traffic collapse, but still - awesome! :)
Does it happens a lot in Alberta - heavy snow in september?
