We used two of them hunting this year.

It is okay but has many limitations.

1. It does not handle steep slopes well. Due to short wheelbase and relatively high COG it has some safety features that greatly reduced power at about 30 degree incline. If you keep creeping and it gets any steeper it just shuts off power completely and you have to back out. You can "override" the safety by climbing backwards but you can't see anything. A 30 degree incline isn't much and we encountered them often. A wheeler or side by side climbs up a 50-60 degree hill easily if you have decent skill.

2. It does mud okay but it does get stuck. If you get too deep the flat bottom creates one hell of a suction and it takes a shit ton of effort to winch out. We were okay as we had two and were able to pull it out using the 2nd sherpa as well as a winch with a deadman (we had to dig for two hours to get a deadman deep enough to hold).

3. Fuel consumption is awful. Not useable for long distance excursions. Max about 25 miles. The consumption is so heavy that it is impractical to carry extra fuel because you would have to use every inch of space to carry diesel cans.

The good....

1. Very tough. We beat the living hell out of both and couldn't even scratch them.

2. Super cheap. When your hunting buddy is chief of an oil field oil on the north slope of Alaska it doesn't cost a cent. (Kidding, these were 90k each by the time they were equiped and delivered).

3. They are very soft on the environment. May seem counter intuitive but with so much tire on the ground the psi weight is minimal. It actually leaves very light tracks and does not tear up the ground around it. You can dig holes if you want but regular driving is far better than my side by side.

Verdict....

Not as "go anywhere" as a military track rig and not as useful as a side by side for real life needs. Something in between. I doubt we will see these ever make it mainstream as the only organizations that can afford them are government agencies or big corporate concerns. The two we used are going to be used as rescue rigs if weather is too severe for medivac. There was thought of using them to transport personnel to remote sites but they proved too ineffecient when compared to helicopter.
he lives in Alaska! :thumb:

These guys offroad in the outback of Australia, they got some very nice off roading machines. I like whatever that 4 door Isuzu truck is with the classic outback truck bed on it. The Uni Mog was cool to, the Toyota Hilux with big balloon tires it awesome too. I was thinking last night when I was watching a few episodes, I'd pay them to go wheeling with them, as long as I could drive one of their rigs.

those guys bring getting stuck in the mud to a whole new level  :bigthumb:

Ever wonder if you can make a truck float for the real world and not some Top Gear contraption.

don't miss the guy "hanging out" 8)

What I dont get is why a driver would try to avoid a vehicle in the wrong, only to cause an accident not involving the vehicle in the wrong. Its a very common occurrence. Its a natural instinct to try and avoid but the vehicle in the wrong gets off scott free unless you have video evidence and can get a license plate.

mainly to avoid death
say a car from the opposite direction crosses over into your lane  maybe sending a text.
Sure it is his fault, but jumping a curb and going off into the weeds could be safer.
When i was 17 a car pulled right in front om me, out of a driveway. BANG  only 35 mph, his insurance paid for the damage 8)
at 40, similar, no time to stop, i cut the wheel full right, somehow missed the car 8)
these videos don't show many of the successful misses- need to be there in person to feel the G's 8)
