Hey all,

Been looking at some kind of video recording solution for when I am ebiking and I found this rather recently listed item.
Its a "Sunglasses video Camera", so far I been guessing these in the past have been quite crappy but this one claims 1080p and I am hoping its a nice copy of the pivot sunglasses camera which is almost all I find video reviews of for 1080p type devices of this nature.

Anyway here is a link for ebay that at least works for me. If it doesn't just put "15MP HD 1080P Video Sunglasses Camera" into ebay or any where else you like and you should see many of the exact same sunglasses except different frame colors. BTW they seem to go by the model name "H568"

http://www.ebay.com.au/sch/i.html?_sop=15&_sacat=0&_from=R40&_nkw=15MP+1080P+Video+Sunglasses+Camera&LH_PrefLoc=2&_arm=1&_armm=63&_ruu=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com.au%2Fsch%2Fi.html%3F_sop%3D15%26_sacat%3D0%26_from%3DR40%26_nkw%3D15MP%2B1080P%2BVideo%2BSunglasses%2BCamera%26LH_PrefLoc%3D1%26_arr%3D1

Any one tried these? Got a link to a youtube video? They seem quite new so could be just a matter of time.
Whats really appealing about video recording sunglasses is they easily mount on your face so you minimize vibration compared to handlebar mount and compared to a helmet and you can lock your bike up and bring them with you easily.

The picture is probably "ok" but not great. They are convenient to have on ones head, if one remembers to push the record button properly to "get the shot"...
I have 2 sets of standard definition video glasses 720x480 and the video is usable but not great. I have been thinking a HiDef version of them is on my list of future purchases....

The biggest problem I found with that kind of camera is when we ride a bike, our heads move around a lot more then we realize. I had to learn not to move my head much when riding to avoid the 'fire-hose" affect of the camera rapidly going back and forth. I looks really amateurish when that happens.

I also learned I had to keep my chin up while riding. It is instinctive to look at what is a few yards ahead of you vs looking down the road while riding so, got a lot of footage of the street ahead of me until I learned to keep my chin up in what is a really uncomfortable position.

I learned to get useable footage though....Chin up and slow head movements in very un-natural body movements. I will probably strap a set to my bars soon to see how that looks.

Another problem with this type of camera is that the microphone is just a hole in the plastic so when any wind goes across it causes a lot of wind noise. One solution is to put a piece of foam over the mic hole to help reduce the wind noise.

Also, the lens focal length on these glasses usealy isn't very wide, so when you have a close encounter, like a car almost hitting you, it is hard to see the whole scene or what happened.

Also, when you buy a micro SD card for the glasses, (probably doesn't come with the glasses) get the 32GB version for maximum recording time.

In the end I might get another set of video glasses,I am waiting for the price to go down. In the end, the real way to go for that kind of video is with something like a GoPro or possibly Intova.

:D

Yes I have both Gopro and video glasses, and the video glasses suck for biking because of all the items mentioned above
- narrow field of view
- mostly filming the footpath in front of you
- excessive wind noise

Gopro is better for bike recording I reckon, mainly due to wide angle.

The sunglasses are much easier to wear though.

Great for things like stealth documenting dodgy operators for undercover stings for A Current Affair ;)

The ideal ebike video sunglasses would have one or both of the following attributes
- wider field of view
- lens pointing further up (or adjustable lens angle?)

Yeah those issues do sound like problems that hopefully this newer model might improve on.
I have done a bit of research on torch shaped 1080p cameras and have been impressed by the quality of the RD32II 1080p sports camera. Just check out some videos on youtube by searching for "rd32ii 1080p"
http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=rd32ii+1080p&oq=RD32II&gs_l=youtube.1.2.0l5j0i5.2285.2285.0.4148.1.1.0.0.0.0.249.249.2-1.1.0...0.0...1ac.2.11.youtube.viqd-yJBPzQ
These seem to be at cheapest about $125US, and originally I was a bit suspicious about the price of these 1080P 15MP video sunglasses as they are as cheap as $66 on aliexpress.com but I think the large price difference might be due to the fact that the RD32II has a lot more features like HDMI out and a laser pointer built in.

If the video quality of these sunglasses is similar to the RD32II then I would be quite happy.

I just saw a review of the Mobius Actioncam 1080p and it looks good for the price...
As far as I can tell it lacks waterproofing and a way to protect the lens from flying objects. ie: A UV lens....

:D
I watched a bunch of videos in 1080p mode by searching for "Mobius 1080p" on youtube and the video quality from this camera is spectacular. So I might end up getting this one. Cheers for the input.

I emailed one 1080p Sunglasses seller and he assured me the video quality is great but I want more proof then that so I think the Mobius is the go. The mobius is so small I could practically stick it on a pair of sunglasses if I wanted to be silly about it.

If your sunglasses have a thick enough frame it would work. Velcro and a couple of thick rubber bands for back-up would do.
As far as i can tell the microphone is this little hole in the front to the camera.

It would defiantly need a bit of foam over the hole to stop the wind from rattling it's little diaphragm asunder creating nothing but wind noise...

Well I finally decided to buy a sports cam, mainly as a bit of self protection.
I got the Mobius Actioncam 1080p + 32gb for $105AU delivered.

This is my first upload to youtube, the video was edited slightly on my PC via windows movie maker then uploaded to youtube so its somewhat changed but the quality when viewed via 1080p mode is still pretty good.

*Edit, I am reuploading...*

Quite happy with this Mobius camera.

Looks like city traffic to me....with cagers sticking their bumpers in places they shouldn't! No different over here except we are on the other side of the road.

The camera looks like it is functioning well, with a decent video resolution and good exposure from dark to light. Recording a night ride will be a good test for the camera.

Also, consider affixing a piece of foam over the microphone hole to reduce some of the wind noise. It will also help the microphone last longer as the wind wont be blowing the diaphragm in the mic around so much while you ride, which, could eventually ware out the diaphragm as it is small.

:D

Here is another video from the same day. I wont hit the youtube "stabilize" button on this video as it appears that stabilizationfication sucks out video quality.

Thanks ebeach for the suggestion of covering up the mic hole, good idea. At first I thought it was already covered by that white round QA sticker but then I looked more carefully and see its not so I will cover that up for my next videos.

3rd video here http://youtu.be/UP9xJ-V8PSU which is uploading now. Also this was recorded Mode 1 FOV is set to "narrow" so its less fish eye effect on this one.
This one is using this handlebar mount from ebay, using the handle bar mount over helmet mount seems to be a fair bit more stable. I would of thought helmet would of giving a more stable video but there ya go. I am thinking maybe if I strap my helmet to my head tighter it might be better.

How long does a full battery charge last ?
What is the max record time ( spec says 4 gig ?) ..what does that relate to in mins/hrs @ 1080p ?
Its claims 80mins record time, all sorts of details of mins per mb etc are in this mega breakdown thread here (on a single page)

Unlike a lot of USB chargeable devices I have that fully turn off/disable when charging via USB the mobius allows u to use the USB as an external power source.
So I plan to use this as my backup power supply, powered by one of my oldest most dodgey lipo packs.

I got this adapter from HK took forever to arrive, and it doesn't work. Tried a bunch of different batteries and cables etc just completely dead. Dogman said his never worked but I foolishly just assumed he was unlucky.

Ordered one of these,

More power and cheaper, but lacks a case.
Edit.. I think I broke the one above.. Anyway I then ordered this one, have used it for a fair while now and works well.

Just an update with using my Mobius Actioncam, I remember some one reading/posting the concerns on water "resistantness"..

Well because the Mobius is small I left it in the pocket of my pants. I then put my pants in the washing machine last Wednesday, anyway I also had inadvertently put the mobius action cam through a full cycle wash!
When I went to put my clothes in the tumble dryer I saw to my horror the mobius sitting in the washing machine.
I tried to turn it on, it didnt respond.. I then went to dry it out, left it on top of my PVR box which is nice and warm over night.

Anyway, turned on... I charged it... and did a video recording... It still works fine!
It did loose its internal time/date on videos were recorded in 2013/Jan time stamp but that was easily fixed by updating it via the PC software to the correct time.. So I been loving this sports cam more and more.. :D

Uploaded another video via my Mobius Actioncam.
This was back in February 26 2014 (Australia Day) I thought I may as well upload it as some kind of historical significants, who knows maybe in 100 years time people will wonder what people wore at the beach in Australia. Also wanted to sharpen my video editing skills.
Be sure to choose 1080p to try and view it in best quality..

Iv got a go pro black edition and the video quality on that is incredible, it even does 4k too.
