There's Once Upon a Time and then there's its spinoff Once Upon a Time in Wonderland, with Alice still in the key role, but with some storyline mixups and crossovers, including with The Arabian Nights, genies and all that. Always a surprise and very nice green screen layovers.

A Soliloquy of Truth and Terror

Sons of Anarchy Episode 79 S06E13, "A Mother's Work" aired December 10, 2013, Season 6 finale. Truly outstanding finnish up for the season. In so many ways, I believe the Sons of Anarchy to be as good as or better than Breaking Bad. Note: 1> creator Kurt Sutter plans a seventh and final season.[3] [4] and 2>"In November 2013, Kurt Sutter indicated that he was in talks with FX to make a Sons of Anarchy prequel set in the 1960's" [5], If you have been following the story, its definitely a story line, so begin at the beginning with Season 1.

Haven't seen the Alice in Wonderland version, but how do you top 'Wicked,' where the "Wicked Witch of the West" is essentially a front for this Diane Fossey type ('Gorillas in the Mist') preservationist that's protecting the western frontier, who gets word than a handpicked commando unit, the "Gale Force," has been sent after her? She watches as they encounter her housepet dogs and one of the commandos takes an axe and just SLAUGHTERS them. (You read the book? History is written by the victors, don't forget.) Oh yeah, the commandos are led by this specialist that the wizard that chased her into exile sent for, someone named Dorothy. . . .

Saw I hadn't placed it, so did, top rated, as this is one of those 'perfect' shows where everything comes together in a most magical, engaging and fanciful way. Some clips:

I just revised the list with a new #1 entry - North America. You have to be a Nature lover to appreciate it. Produced by the Discovery Channel, this 7 part series achieves what not other such documentary of its kind has ever manged to do, capture the grandeur of a whole continent.
Sweeping across some of the most diverse landscapes on the planet, North America takes viewers from the silent grandeur of lofty snowcapped peaks to fertile forests and dramatic windswept coasts. The continent's unique geography creates some of the most extreme weather on the planet. Wild animals living in these astonishing and sometimes brutal habitats must be fiercely resilient sharing that human spirit the continent is known for. From jaguars to spinner sharks, wolves that fish to wolverines high in the mountains, this is North America.
Really some of the most exceptional nature filmography ever! Give this as a gift to your children or grand children - they'll love it and so will you!

Just edited the list moving best currently running show to the top:
↑↑↑Vikings {Season 2}
.... sure to be replaced by Game of Thrones when that begins to air mid-April. But for now, Season 2 of The Vikings just began and that'll remain at the top till then. Here's a clip of King Ragnar On the question of Happiness:

Also added a new word to my vocabulary today in perusing the literature, explaining why I love grand fantasy series like these: Mythopoeia, a word coined (and used as the title of a poem) by mythology scholar and fantasy author J. R. R. Tolkien to mean "myth-making"; it has since become a literature and film genre of myth-like fictional narratives, especially in the high fantasy tradition. Tolkien's The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings series, is of course, the grand master by which we judge such works, especially as committed to film in the best possible way. Having seen The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug in IMAX 3D over the holidays, I'll continue to hold the whole of that work in the highest possible regard. The Hobbit was the first book I read on my own, of my own volition and not under the compulsion of an adult, when I was not yet out of school and I was mesmerized, then, now and always. We obviously live in the best of times, with respect to the human imagination. Thank G-D, the real world really sucks.

The Vikings very much belongs to this genre, although with roots in actual history and on this earth, rather than strictly born of fantasy. But it tells a mythic story that rings true and has heroes and demons to be vanquished. And great battles of course! Enjoy!

While watching Anatomy of Hate I was taken by a quote of Ernest Becker: "The real world is simply too terrible to admit. It tells man that he is a small trembling animal who will someday decay and die. Culture changes all of this, makes man seem important, vital to the universe. Immortal in some ways." And in considering the necessary religio-cultural context of much of the violence in the world, how true that was. So used wikipedia and other resources to look deeper into the legacy of this great man where I encountered the documentary, Flight from Death: The Quest for Immortality. I'm glad I did the research, found the video and watched it. If it is your passion to reduce violence, this award winning documentary of his magnus opus - The Denial of Death would be well placed into your view list.

And yet the vegan still reads the thread about meat. I suppose to have the opportunity to be disgusted by it.

House of Cards - British version was awesome! The American version takes it to another dimension set in contemporary times. It, along with Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones, and Borgia have been my favorite "TV" shows this past season.

The Evil that people do... (even if make-believe). The Greeks invented Tragedy, though independents like HBO, Showtime, and Netflix seem to perfect upon it with great style.

Stargate sg1 rekindled my interest in television having not watched it in years. So it is outstanding. Although it got me watching other stuff too.
Stargate peeps are knocking out another one soon, but all new cast and all new baddies. Hopefully not some soap opera crap like universe. I want some good ole american whiter than white genocide.
bmsbattery sent me broken and incorrect stuff, and won't even talk to me about it.

There are a lot of good shows in that list. One of my personal favorites is The Lost Room. Everyone to whom I've recommended it to has agreed.
