Godess Aileen Hughes from Canada.
http://vitacollections.ca/ckl-digitalco ... 2120/data?
Early 1900s, as seen in Lindsay, Ontario newspaper from April 23, 1969
"There was also the time when she was a student at the Lindsay Collegiate Institute and rode up the dirt road to the school on the hill on an electric scooter, the first kind to be used in Lindsay."

(Forgive me if I plug here the daughter of a great, great, great uncle of mine.) :)

(And today I promote uphill bike races as a way to show the kick-butt power of electric "assist".) :D

OT, butt here she ("big game" hunter) was returning home with her new kitty cat (lion cub) she had "captured in the jungle" in South Africa where her Canada-born father had been helping the English in fighting those sneaky (Dutch) Boers over one hundred years ago:

Only mentioned once before on ES (gasp!)... in this thread, indirectly by Master Drunken Stinky Guy... Charles Augustin Coulomb (1736 – 1806). His interest in electrics EVentually led to development of the torsion balance and the discovery of the relation which would become known as Coulomb's Law.

Guys got his own page on Wiki:

Oooops. Realized just now I seem to have been remiss in not acknowledging Charles Francis Brush (March 17, 1849 – June 15, 1929), U.S. inventor, entrepreneur and philanthropist here.

... and ANOTHER-in-waiting... Tsuyoshi Hoshino, a senior scientist at the Department of Fusion Reactor Materials Research in Rokkasho Fusion Energy Centre:
Image

Seen on ES here:
https://endless-sphere.com/forums/viewt ... 5#p1302215
Writing in the new issue of the journal Desalination, Tsuyoshi Hoshino, a scientist at the JAEA’s Rokkasho Fusion Institute, proposed a method for recovering lithium from seawater using dialysis. Still years from commercialization, the system is based on a dialysis cell with a membrane consisting of a superconductor material. Lithium is the only ion in the seawater that can pass through the membrane, from the negative-electrode side of the cell to the positive-electrode side.

The method “shows good energy efficiency and is easily scalable,” Hoshino writes.

ACK! ESB "Search found 2 matches: Jedlik"? ACK!

Ányos István Jedlik has his own entry on Wiki:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C3%81nyos_Jedlik

Image

... watt says in part:
Ányos István Jedlik (Hungarian: Jedlik Ányos István; Slovak: Štefan Anián Jedlík; in older texts and publications: Latin: Stephanus Anianus Jedlik; 11 January 1800 – 13 December 1895) was a Hungarian inventor, engineer, physicist, and Benedictine priest. He was also a member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, and author of several books. He is considered by Hungarians and Slovaks to be the unsung father of the dynamo and electric motor.
