At 5:15, luke mentions what he feels is the next big thing in EV batteries (liquid electrolyte takes up too much room = solid electrolyte much more power dense):
"...CEO Ann Marie Sastry...solid-state batteries theoretically offer higher energy density than current Li-ion designs, and could also be safer, as well as cheap to manufacture – Sakti3 hopes to produce cells at a cost of $100 per kilowatt-hour within a couple of years..."
Here's a random link from the web on Sakti3:

By involving magnesium (abundant/cheap) in the anode, it may eliminate dendrite formation, possibly leading to batteries that last decades instead of a few years...

Hybrid magnesium−lithium-ion batteries (MLIBs) featuring dendrite-free deposition of Mg anode and
Li-intercalation cathode are safe alternatives to Li-ion batteries for large-scale energy storage.

I'm waiting for some guy to post that Luke is just some tree-hugger who really doesn't understand internal combustion engines and their potential. For the new guys: Luke is a gasoline hot-rodder from way back, and he is uniquely qualified to compare the potential of the two...

That Guy is tree hugging, hippie-fied, Kaliforniated wanna be (probably a commie) who needs a trim on that uni-bomber beard!
I bet he can't even spell "internal combustion"! He'd sing a different tune if he ever took a ride in my Nova!
  :pancake:

But seriously, he's right on the mark....good to see some exposure (even if its insider stuff) & I love the mild toss of the gauntlet to the Mission crew to step up a little bit.

looking forward to getting back out west for an event & hanging out (if one ever shows up worth getting too)
(I still owe Farfle a spool of solder  )
get some......

Luke is usually shirtless :D Great interview, not the wild Luke I had imagined, but that beard looks pretty wild. I hope to shake your hand someday.

Heh heh, looks just like an engineer in that vid. Like a rocket scientist from White Sands Missile Range in my town. The mad monks. Very nice talk though, the intelligence shines right though the homeless dude look.

1000 mile range motorcycle? Yes please! It could plug in at my house, then the next day reach LA on one charge, and still have 20% left. Or do a pretty long daily commute, on 20% cycles! Oh yeah!

We're not going to completely switch to solar or whatever energy, but cleaning up power plants to plug in cars and motorcycles is possible. Burn to electricity still much more efficient than a Rube Goldberg invention on wheels.

Excellent interview Luke!
I'm extremely happy that the presence of a camera didn't cause you to dummy down your comments to the lowest common denominator (layman's terms).

Good interview man!

Any more details on the potted battery you dunked in the ocean? Did you get that idea from our old buddy Jack Rickard or what?

How does the battery vent if potted or is that not an issue? Can you remove the potting or is it permanent?
